Difference between Cyberpunk2077 and DeusEx mankind divided

+
Fan of the Deus Ex series and I know next to nothing about Cyberpunk 2020. I just want to make I sure I have the gist of this. DX is about fighting the white collar, global conspiracy, and terrorism and it's effects while Cyberpunk has the blue collar, street level, scraping to get by kind of feel. Essentially you're the one feeling the effects of the global conspiracy and terrorism? DX is on my must buy list, but this sounds very interesting too.

I would say you are 'almost' there with that statement. Personally, I see Cyberpunk 2020, (and hopefully 2077,) as being about dragging yourself up from the gutter, coming from rock bottom with nothing left to lose and clawing your way out of the pit. For me, that means becoming more powerful, making a name and a career. My characters are very rarely out to change the world, they want to get paid and fulfill their own dreams, much like real life. The majority of us are not out to topple governments or uncover conspiracies, we just want to get by and get ourselves into a better social/economic position.

and there isn't ususally a conspiracy behind the state of civilisation in 2020, everyone knows the mega-corps run the world and do as they please, they are resigned to it and they just want another dose of whatever it is they do make that world go away for a few hours.

I also remember a friend of mine saying it's very possible your character will end up as bad as the Mega Corps/ governments that crushed them in the beginning. It's a cruel, cruel world and all the lines are blurred.

Yes! Certainly this is an option in Cyberpunk 2020 - and hopefully in 2077 - that you can join the Bad Guys and unregretfully, ( or regretfully) embrace what your younger Punk self perhaps railed against.

Or start "bad" and stay bad - also an option, albeit generally a less interesting one.

Deus Ex tends to present you as a saviour, at worst a "grey area" saviour, whereas in Cpunk you can just be through and though rotten.

This sounds great. Nothing is inherently good or bad. You're just trying to make it on your own.

In the words of Jango Fett:

"I'm just a simple man trying to make my way in the Universe."

I think one of the chief differences is that where Deus Ex is more about the hands on approach through a specific somebody within a specific lane of narration, Cyberpunk - I've always felt, and not just because it's a PnP game - is more about a systemic approach through an unspecific nobody with much more borader avenues of approaching the world and situations. But that's gameplay. The background lores I've never really dug deeper into to compare.

Well, ONE chief difference is that this time next year I'll be on hour 180 of my DEMD playtime....and positively BALLOONED with suppressed Cyberpunk 2077 anticipation.

Siiiiiiigh.

I'm still bitter and acidic over them removing the skills for augs, but I'll probably still have my second runthrough going.

And I will probably have played well over 100 hours... and STILL not having finished the game even one time... if ever... XD
