I cant tell you how disappointed I have been with game developers lately. There are so many scams like Watchdogs, BF4, COD Ghosts. I'm just sick and tired of them lieing and making shitty games. I hope Cyberpunk has a crew of people who are committed to making a great game.
Quickly done, quickly sold.
There are no more artistic team in those big developper, it's all about money and
"how much will we sell of that shit?", all the budget goes in marketing, games are less and less original.
Honnestly I was a really big player back then, now I just stick to a few fighting game, GTA, Fallout, etc... because, well, most of all the game just do the same shit over and over again, no more risks...
I think Cyberpunk will be actualy good (if it keep sticking on the original concept), CDPR will have 2 or 3 big deal to beat:
- Fleshing out the raw, realistic and gritty background, story, etc...
- Having a good gameplay, not the awkward "click click" from the witcher
- Being ready to take a lot of risks, doing something fresh
(which is granted somewhat by the content from Cyberpunk)
If they fail at this, the game will mostly sucks and it'll be a no buy for me, as much as I love Cyberpunk, I'd rather play the pnp more than play an half-assed game.
It just seems that the more video games goes forward, the less developer are imaginatives, back then we had 16bits with awesome games (i'm not a retro geek, but still), you could see a lot of artists work behind them, they were "caught" by the technology, they had to work their way around it, to counter the machine's power limitation.
Now, they can do whatever they want, but they just release crappy FPS, "run in a corridor for 5h" adventure game, remakes of game
(worst than the original, mostly), etc...
It strike everywhere, video game, music, movies, art, etc....
It all turn around, using the same already-done stuff trying to have some attitude, when in fact they just screw a concept and throw it off for money.
On the other hand thought, innovation is a real career killer too....
Nowadays, everyone
"love" the Dreamcast, you know
"dude! that console was so huuuuge! too much great game! so much epicness, sega really knew what they were doing".... And that fucking piss me off....
Why? because I owned the Dreamcast back then
(and still now), People weren't
"OMG that console is so huge", no, they were all
SHITTING ON IT! like if there were no tomorrow, you know
"that console sucks, and... What? Shenmue? what kind of fucking shitty game is it? etc...."
By the time, everyone were buying the crap from sony, to kill it, like
"Ok guys, we'll have a DVD player, and our console will be sooooo much powerfull that the graphics will be as powerfull as a Pixar Movie" (and seriously, I'm not kidding, it's really what they said to the press conferences). But, no, everyone bought the bullshit from Sony, and Sega crashed hard.
"
Yes but PS2 had good games".... Yes, and those games (GTA, etc...) were about to be released on Dreamcast too... You'd just have to support it to keep it alive.
Btw, yes, now Sega really sucks at making game, but what I'm meaning is more
"buy interesting games, support good developper" and just piss on those Activition bullshit, and boycott those crappy developper, they need to sink, otherwise the video game world will goes worst and worst.
There are really few guys putting decent games nowadays, they need support, or we'll end up having only a bunch of GTA clones and COD clones...
The main problem in fact, is that they're aiming their games for EVERYONE, when at first, a game isn't meaned for everyone, so of course, that lower the quality over the quantity, we live in a age where any casual should be able to play whatever they want, so that basicaly kill the challenge...
I've nothing against casual, but paying 70€ for an half assed game, with a cheap gameplay, no challenge, and worth 4hour of playing it untill it's finished, yes... I call it wallet rape, or Video Scam if you prefer, there are less excuses when it comes out from big developper.
Like Resident Evil... Look at it now, it's a crappy action game :/
When it come to crappy game Capcom has learned how to serve us, milking us just as we need, thank you capcom.
...Why does the old RE where good? Because of zombies? Because of guns? Because of gore? No!
Because it was pure survival-horror, come on guys, don't reinvent the steel, just scratch your head to make a good survival horror, don't be affraid to hire a few horror-movie writters to help you, I don't know.
With modern capacities you could be able to put a survival-horror who'd bury every shitty horror movie released recently
(because yes, horror movies sucks nowadays too....), just imagine what you can do today with a setting ala Resident Evil 2, in a open world racoon city, the kind of hardcore survival horror, I don't know, but well, that would be nicer than turning it in an action game.
Just like the Occulus Rift, everyone is freaky about it, but IMO it's like the 3D glasses for the Movies.... A crappy movie, even in 3D stay a crappy movie, you just see the crap moving around, but in the end it still crap...
The problem could also come from the "art school" for video game, which much like cinema, just "format" people to do the same stuff over and over, when most of the greatest movie makers never gone to any art school, they all learned by themself, same in music and video game...
In my job, usualy, it's logical to be aware of what you do, and having to give quality to your clients... otherwise they don't come back to buy your stuff.
It should work the same for the video game, ok I respect that developper do what they like and all, but come on, think about the guys who'll play it in the end, we're not a bunch of stupid sheep just willing to give you money...
Just my 2cents.
