A review from the Guardian popped up at breakfast, I'm not going to review it other than to say they give 5 stars, and when they spillover into story spoiler territory you can see it coming and avoid.

Oh, and this passage reminded me of a previous conversation we had with @theta77;

Indeed, the way in which the developers manage to wrangle the various, divergent threads of your unique journey, with all of its composite choices and outcomes, while entirely concealing the seams is masterly.

edit: Meant to warn if you do go to the Guardian, avoid the comments is a good rule of thumb, I had a quick glance and they appear to be still arguing over Elric "White Wolf" of Melnibone. I swear this ongoing presumption on the UK games medias part looks like its going to last longer than the harking back to the '66 football final.

Yes. And against children. If this game disturbs because of this then the disturbed should pull their head from the ground and actualy try to do something for the victims of the violence in real world.

Why does your post resemble Dispatches from the Frontlines ? Is it because some fecker from a disreputable media outlet just surprise attacked us on a border we didn't even know we had? What an utter coward, voicing his propaganda when the vast majority of us can't assess the content ourselves.

Once I - or one of a thousand others on this board - have played the game and can obtain a radiation suit strong enough to withstand proximity to Polygons site, I daresay this shrubs mewling will be silenced by informed, impartial commentary.

It's true that CD has gone a bit overboard and junevile with these ladies. In a world so full of weird and ugly NPCs, which is if course normal as that is the way of the real world as well, they chose to depict the women as the hottest thing anyone can imagine. So, yes, for my part, a little more maturity would be nice. But, on the other hand, CD is no different than any quality TV show or movie that does the same. And don't forget that despite the looks, women are really powerful in the witcher world so, for me, actually talking about sexism, especially pretentious reviewers, is like saying that GoT is sexist because it treats womean like servants and bargaining chips.

They couldn't be missing the point much more than that.

God damn Polygon is fucking stupid, deducting points for some arbitrary poc quota in a game of slavic medieval fantasy and... sexism? they wouldn't have done that for DAIII and they didn't. Oh noes, nudity is evil.

I absolutely despise them.

Nope..they confirmed it on the IGN livestream. Also there is no unique gear for Death March.

I'm not sure if they will patch in an insane difficulty (that has permadeath) , but we shall see.

I'm pretty sure it will be one of the free DLC, a new game mode introduced being the insane and perma-death.

i laughed at this because that's exactly what's happening on some GoT criticisms actually.

Anyway I have yet to see a review that put emphasis on the dungeons in the game and how they match to others.
The vids I've seen so far just look small

I love how even when the reviewer has some - sometimes stupid - reason to lower the score, neither of them go below 8 (or 4). That means the game must be really good overall.

Well about that..

Let us not forget this game has magic and dragons so realism is not really a factor here.

I think he/she means literature realism, which is different than saying the setting itself is realistic.

I went through the Polygon review and I can say that it's crap. They sometimes make good reviews, but this one is not one of them, very superficial and doesn't cover the game systems in any details, just a brief mention, like he wasn't even trying to get to know the game.

It seems the reviewer was so focused on misogyny for some reason, that it bled through everything he was saying and he didn't spend any time to get to know the game intricacies.
Maybe he was going for some moral high ground, but he just came out as some pretentious bastard trying too hard to force his own views on the game, finding fault everywhere he looks.
Yes, the witcher world is a dark place that tackles serious themes that many choose to avoid, be it in games or in the real world, so I guess that rattled his cage a bit. :)

I know these reviews are opinions, but once in a while I get fed up with the crap they are spouting. Trying to come out like professional journalists, but trying so hard that they just fail.

I'm just quoting my post from 3 days ago regarding the polygon review:
Scryar said:
I fully expect a troll review from polygon. Though probably 8/10 and not 6/10. I'm interested what score Gameinformer gives the game. Dragon Age Inqusition got a 9.5/10 (lol) so this game better gets a 12/10

This site is so predictable, though the game is so good so they still had to give a 8.
I have to say I'm relived by their critism, that means CDP has done everything right.
It's no coincidence that everytime I see someone posting a polygon link in other forums (aside from Neogaf, which is basically a Sarkesian Fanclub, after everybody who doesn't agree with her get banned there) the first reponse is, if someone can summarize what was written because this joke of a "gaming" site doesn't deserve any clicks.
I just wished they would rate the game with just a yes/no like kotaku so their troll reviews wouldn't affect the metacores

The criticism on this for GoT is equally stupid. Real medieval times were worse than what GoT shows. I understand if someone doesn't like it, yes, but accusing it of sexism is stupid. The same with the W3. I already said that there was no need for these women to be so hot and generally always dress sexually, that was a juvenile mistake from CD. But fantasy based on medieval times can't be called sexist and be discarded if it follows the rules of the time. The polygon overreaction is atrocious.

Funny how Polygon, a gaming review site that supposedly adopts a progressive review policy, does the complete opposite in their review of the Witcher 3.

Author of The Witcher series, based the series on classic liberal themes. Imperialism, racism and yes even sexism. At this point you could change the words and it would sound like Fox News reviewed TW3. Are games not allowed to express these types of themes?

After watching several hours if gameplay I can assure you women are not always dressed sexually. And about them being hot? So what? I (and many others) like beautiful characters and if CDP decided to make most of the characters this way (just like in Witchr 1+2) I respect and approve it. You don't like it? fine, but that doesn't neither make it juveline nor a mistake.

There is no problem with liking beautiful characters. I do too. But they should be dressed for the occasion, not always going around with sexy outfits. It's a small problem for me, it doesn't really mean much. I am just discussing it.

As Sile said, Sorceress' have their own rituals. Dressing sexy and wearing a shit-ton of make up happens to be one of those.

You need to remember that this game has one of the sexiest MEN in the history of gaming, and he's in almost every scene. It takes a lot of sexy females to balance that out and make things equal.
