I asked Marcin about that same picture, and he responded that it was one of the select shots prepared exclusively for the print magazine, and that there wasn't a digital high resolution copy. More the pity, as it was a nice shot!

Do what, now? I've done design for print work, and would use a 1200px image for a 4" spot.
Not sure how large the image is used at, but the original artwork should have been a "decent" resolution if it was to be usable.

And now, on to to-day's entry:

'Lambert! Eskel! I told you to cut the grass in this yard! Now, get off your backsides and get mowing!'

It's 733x468 in the magazine. Don't how big it is in its "raw" size, but not big enough for CDPR to release it to the public apparently.

That disgusting DOF. Why do people do that? Geralt isn't shortsighted last time i checked, otherwise he needs glasses.

Damn, RESPECT THE LORE, CDPR. Geralt has CAT EYES. He surely doesn't need a torch.

First: in this picture, DOF is photoshopped in. Second: DOF i'm sure will be optional. Personally i always play with DOF off for gameplay, and with DOF on for cutscenes.

I don't think so. The new shot looks higher quality gfx to me. All you can compare is just Geralt here, anyway.

The torch just looks cool. I have no problem with it, and I look forward to exploring some caves where the dim light of my torch dances on the walls and I expect at any moment to see gleaming teeth or a dim silhouette. As for the DOF, I liked the effect in TW2, but here it seems a bit overdone.

I'm pretty sure this is a cutscene, and that's a cutscene DOF. Or Photoshopped in :) Keep calm folks, like @jjensson said, worst case scenario you will just toggle it off. But it really doesn't seem like a gameplay sequence to me ;)

And also, I love the atmosphere there.

Yes he is. But that doesn`t` mean he can see in complete darkness.

I knew I was walking dangerous by using that phrase. Really can't slip a single one past you, can I?

Does this also include torches as in flashlights? Because then it must really suck for you when it's late at night and the power's out :p

Anyway, that new screenshot looks great. Noticed some comments about the DoF - it's mosy likely part of a cutscene or, judging by the angle that's impossible to get during actual gameplay, it's a beauty shot with extra DoF enabled just for this shot. Wouldn't worry about it. Plus, you can probably disable in-game DoF.

I think torches are a great idea. Everything about the game so far I love. It's like Skyrim, which in one of my all time favorite games, and it has a really good story and combat. So I think I'll love the Witcher 3 even though I haven't played past games or read the books. I know that lore is really important for some people but still, cut some slack and let some stuff goooooooooo.

No, it's not. With cat potion Geralt can see in the night as it if was day. But even without cat potion Geralt can see quite well in the dark.

All of his potions make his mutations even better but starting from a far advanced point (compared to normal humans). Same is e.g. true for his combat speed. He's already quite fast but even faster with the right potions. ;)

There is no absolute darkness at night in the open environment though.

BTW no animal can see in the absolute darkness, because their eyes needs a minimum of ligth which reflecting in their retina.

Yes, there is.. There's caves and tunnels where the view is absolutely useless. Even for cats :p

I cannot understand why, but each to their own.

At least it'll be completely optional (Or I assume so). Anywhere dark enough to require a Torch (And even being 100% lore-friendly these locations do exist) you can just use Cat instead, everywhere else you simply don't have to pull one out. And the rest of us who love them, get 'em, win/win for all.
