@kagannpwnz So did you actually work for CDPR as a direct employee or as a contractor? I don't see how residing in close proximity to their HQ gives you insight to the development of TW3 or its budget. What is your source for your claim that the marketing budget is twice that of the game development, and that their main target is the US?

Local television, CDPR is quite popular lately in our country (hell, even when Obama came to Poland this month he said stuff about Witcher) and they don't shy from interviews, especially business ones, IIRC they said in the first one I watched that this time around they'll be focusing more on marketing which will be felt most in USA. As for the budget, Kicinski himself said it, here's the source:

http://www.pb.pl/3169838,32789,wiedzmin-3-bedzie-kosztowal-ponad-100-mln-zl

Translation of the most important bit: "TW3 will cost at least 110 000 000 PLN (34 000 000 USD), out of that 40 000 000 PLN is for production and is paid by CDPR, and marketing budget (25 000 000 USD)"

Besides, compare TW2 presence in the US market and TW3, the E3 alone is a big step up from TW2 times, it's not prestige from making great games that made them present on E3 this year MS stage and the last, it's money :) - I wouldn't lie about it just for the sake of bullshiting someone, I love CDPR as a gaming company and I just don't want them end up as Bioware, because for me, they're one of the last true strongholds of rpg gaming.

But anyway, I think I strayed from a topic a little bit :p, that would be all from me.

Thanks for providing that. So if those figures are still accurate (which it might not be since the article was from before they pushed back the release date), that's $13 mil for production and around $23 mil for marketing, all out of CDPR's pocket. I am not very knowledgeable in the expenditures of video game production, so I cannot really say whether that ratio is the industry standard or skewered towards the marketing side. I certainly know $13 mil is a fairly low amount for a AAA title these days, but that kind of makes sense since CDPR games has never been known for their pristine polish (pardon the pun), like Nintendo for instance. They've had to release Enhanced Editions for both predecessors of TW3, which says it all. And you could see the rough edges during those E3 demos. The animation, the voice acting... I think everyone agrees they can be improved on.

And Hopefully they are spending extra money on doing exactly that. I certainly know why you might be worried, but these numbers aren't exactly solid grounds for assuming CDPR is selling out just to cater to a new crowd. Let's wait until the final product comes out, or we have irrefutable evidence before giving into that fear.

You can't blame EA for Bioware's incompetence.

Sure you can. There is a very good reason EA is voted worst company in America every year... they've earned that status by putting $$$ above all else and ruining every studio they've put their hands on. Is it coincidence that as soon as EA got involved that Bioware's games took a nosedive?

So far, there is nothing about Witcher 3 that suggests that CDPR is going in that direction. This is, by far, the biggest and most ambitious Witcher game yet. By virtue of that ambition there are minor things that have/will be streamlined because manpower and resources are not infinite.

Guys, we are really way off topic. Can we get back to it, if possible?

Yes, get back on topic, please, or get... dismembered. Get it? You're forum members, so... Ah, it's a pretty bad joke anyway.

I actually like what I saw in the demos, didn't seem to me like it was too much. Heck, I'd even like to see more dismemberments, blood, guts, pain, suffering, agony delivered by our Witcher's swords!!!! :)

Dismemberment of unarmored enemies is a normal option. Seems like it won't be too easy to execute (I mean, you should stun enemy and make a strong blow), so it's a totally good idea.

I love the dismember system shown in the demos, it makes clear how much strong is Geralt. In the books, he was slaughtering his enemies mercilessly, even more when he got the Sihil (as someone already mentioned), so that's a very nice addition to the game.
Also I think the gore is just fine, and I'm sure CDPR will add an option to turn it off for the more impressionable people. :)

Dismemberment

So the new dismemberment system looks AMAZING and I was wondering if you guys think it might take a special role in certain enemies? Suck as a large golem comes near, or a troll with a hammer and you could maybe cut his arm off to keep him from doing extra damage. I think this would be a cool way to be tactical in fights but it shouldn't be required or near required to win the fight (Not like Dead Space where cutting limbs off kills the enemies) but rather to make the fight easier. Also what kind of items do you think may increase your chances of dismemberment, such as potions or oils?

That thread seems to be more about why it's so frequent, I wanted to discuss the uses of it. My apologies nonetheless

The real purpouse of dismemberment could be to give us advantages in monster fights.... since we discover weaknesses of monsters... cutting of certain body parts first may give us the advantages...

So it may not be just a gore feature, but thats just a guess
Remember the kayran for example

We need thrust animations is what I think, If geralt thrusts at a drowner it shouldn't be cleaved in half(like in the demo) , it should be skewered(so to speak), if they are going for a good dismembering system this should be a key point of attention imo, (cof cof even AC does it better cof cof)

Someone said he was worried about too much dismemberment in the gameplay, but this was just an E3 demo, or it won't occur this often on higher difficulties. I like a bit of gore, when it's not over the top like Dead Space.

Exactly, CDPR said that the demos were intentionally made easy due to time constraints. Cleaving people in half is likely not going to be too common.

lol, I'm sure on easier difficulties you'll be able to. Or if that isn't the case or they don't put in a option for the frequency of it, someone is sure to release a mod that could increase the rate at which you chop those monsters (and people) in half
