Nobody said that the game has to be paused for it. But it would have afforded a completely different combat system based on actual aiming instead of hitbox-free enemies which isn't that easy (or better almost impossible) to perform for clunky console controllers in a third person game... ;)

@Malvus
I know quite well how game development works. I just said that I think that this feature was the most promising innovative feature for TW3 and that I'm sad that they cut it. But you are right, I strongly believe that consoles and controllers are part of the reason why they've cut the feature. Or maybe they just lack the skill to make a better fighting system, who knows... :p

The only way that would work is if they copied Zandatsu from MGR but I don't see CDPR ripping off features from other games and slapping them in, just for the sake of the "wow factor". And I also don't see an action RPG like The Witcher, even though its combat system is hack'n'slash similar to games like MGR and DMC I still don't see how it could make sense. Besides, what CDPR is shooting for is lore authenticity in every feature within the game and especially so in combat. Trust me, it just wouldn't fit in, no matter how "cool" you think it would be.

Are you serious?

You really think a combat system in which you could precisely aim at different body parts would be less lore friendly than a simple hack'n'slash action system? I can't express how much I disagree with you here and you can trust me as well, I know everything about the witcher lore. I'm an extreme fan of the books of the lore, even more so than the games... ;)

And there is nothing wrong with being inspired by other games, that happens all the time in video games. Witcher 3 is inspired by Skyrim as well (for its open world approach as well) without being a rip-off or copy. To be honest, almost every system you could come up in video game development has already been done in another game in another context.

Ok, I didn't quite express myself correctly. What I meant was, there is no way to implement such a system without it being user-friendly for both console or PC. Besides, Geralt isn't slicing melons or cutting up a heavily augmented soldier for his spine in order to replenish his energy. Witcher have a certain style in which they fight. It just wouldn't make sense. You might wanna think on your arguments before you try to call someone out.
Also, it's not inspired by Skyrim and this is everything they want out of a WItcher game. The first Witcher also featured expansive open areas which made it feel like an open world game, however linear it was. That's also one of my major gripes with Witcher 2 since the hub areas were pretty small and felt more enclosed even though they were beautiful. An open world is exactly what they wanted out of a Witcher game and they just didn't have the hardware to properly achieve it. Now with the PS4 and Xbox One they can. And, yes, PC as well.

Just noticed how much blood gushes from the deserter's stump in the demo, reminded me of Kill Bill… hope they make it a bit more realistic

Agreed it might be a slight deviation from the novels, but to cleave a Drowner in twain still looks great.

You mean the blood that disappeared after two seconds? Oh yeah, great.... :p

Didn't you see the ground and terrain were the fights took place. I remember it being full of blood. There were some parts like ditches and they were covered in blood. Even if in some other fights the blood disappeared don't expect an E3 demo to be the same game you will play after 9 months.

Agreed. The game-play in the swamps saw the water fill with blood after the fight with the bandits. 9 months is such a long time, but the longer the wait, the greater the result.

I think that was pretty accurate. I haven't seen someone get hurt that badly and I doubt anyone here has. but I know that wounds you get that nick major arteries bleed out very quickly. it only takes slightly more than a couple of minutes to drain a person dry by the jugular. and I"m guessing here but I'm pretty sure that on average we have more than at least three, three and a half liters of blood, probably more. I think CDPR have done it very accurately. and you can bet they did there research for the last installment of the witcher games. if there is one thing about the deaths they need to fix its the enemy sound effects. most of the time they just grunt when they get hit and then when they die they gargle. which is fine but in a witcher game someones death has never made me cringe and I have never heard a blood curdling scream. I think the sound of suffering effects us more than the dismemberment. or at least in my opinion for me i think it dose.

What's up with all this anti-dismemberment

The most of time reality overcome fiction but even in books you can realize how Geralt's swords are the enlarged version of a scalpel so he can easily dismember any body. And Geralt can not afford to his enemies remain dangerous.

Hm...whetstones could be used for increasing the amount of dismemberments.

well i for one didn't mind the body parts flying around, kinda gave me a nostalgic feeling from TW1.

Btw over the top would be something like this:

Dismemberment adds to realism so full support.
To the OP: Geralt is not a butcher? well at least not in Blaviken :)

Honestly i love the new dismemberment. You know the satisfaction in "killing monsters"? The human monster that rape women torture them? It feels satisfying to dismember these so called "monsters".

Agree, it is strange if people get cut by blades and nothing happened.

Dismemberment is good for ending suffering. Seriously. You know if Geralt slash someone and left him die bleeding, it's much more cruel.
