Do you think the platforming elements in TW3 need improvement?

Well to be honest IMO there is hardly anything wrong with being able to jump.In fact for me it's much more immersive than having this artificial force holding you on the ground. And I have to repeat.....Witcher 3 shouldn't be an AC game.So no leaps of faith and other BS.But still (at least for me) more control over your character insted of scripted gameplay (pretty much press buton for climbing/jumping animation is quite dull and bad for me) is always better.

And if you can jump (or climb on some rooftop) over stream or use a bridge/jump while crossing bridge/swim/cross it with a horse etc is always better than having only ONE option. It's quite limiting and immersion breaking for me if there is only one option. If there are multiple solutions for same problem in game than why not ?

Just my 2 cents.

GTA is way too slow and clumsy.

This is due to the physics of the game but we don't have that kind in TW3 so I think basic jumps are fine with some vault animations. Momentum while sprinting is also one thing I want to be added considering many AAA third-person games have such mechanics.

If it's done good and smooth enough, the GTA jumping is more than enough for me. I wouldn't like jumping on top of rooftops because it would be way too different to the previous Witcher titles and Geralt is too old for such things. Though I still wonder how Ezio managed the trouble in AC: Revelations...

I highly doubt we will be able to climb any kind of building (without a ladder of course). Climbing on cliffs and jumping over smaller gaps is enough for me.

not everything of course, that wouldn't be realistic, just a few

I wouldn't want W3's Novigad to be a messy shit filled city with obvious climbable stuff that the player is meant to climb, games like Sleeping Dogs and AC are full of this. What matters more to me is the believability of the city and there's no convenient shit that a game designer obviously put there for you.

I do like the idea of creating platforms like Geralt can drive a small carriage temporarily to reach a certain rooftop for loot. There was a quest in W1 where you had to get Dandelions Lute back from this merchants daughter but her dad didn't let anyone in the house, jumping and parkour would be perfect for that type of mission.

Maybe vaulting through open windows, rather than using the front door. Just not the *left mouse click here to jump over chasm* from TW2.

I would like to see platforming elements be something like in RE5. Now before you freak out and say; "What, RE5? Why would TW3 borrow anything from that piece of shit game that was nothing like the original series!?"... Because it was good, it was basically the same thing as in TW2 but more dynamic with cleaner animations so it didn't become tedious after a while, it felt very "right" actually, if you know what I mean.

I also loved RE5 btw, I don't know why, I was digging the atmosphere, the whole Africa setting, and I just love that kind of gameplay, the game wasn't a horror or survival anymore, but it was still a darn good game, and if you're too upset it isn't like the previous games, go play the previous games again. Getting a bit off topic here, sorry...

Surprised to see so many comments and views already! I'll just add my two cents here.

I agree with the people saying you shouldn't be able to jump onto every building or climb nearly every surface, but as others have said something akin to GTA or Dragons Dogma (Or maybe RE5...? I can't remember how exactly is was handled in that) where your jump will automatically become a climb, or a larger step over a ledge, as appropriate to the surroundings.

Certainly we want to stay away from Skyrim's style of jump whose sole purpose seems to be to exploit the environmental design and weird physics to get into odd places. And I don't think most of us want something like Assassins Creed where you can grip onto ridiculous edges and often find yourself climbing what you never intended to . Though as others have mentioned a good implementation of a jump could lead to more interesting environments and secret areas, rather than the obvious ledges seen in TW2.

Adding a vertical element to exploration in a place like Novigrad could add so much to the game imo. And I'm not talking Sleeping Dogs or Assassin's Creed, just simple walls and ledges, or maybe ladders. I'm thinking of the part in act one where you climb the ladder to spy on Loredo and Sile in his mansion. I'd love more moments like that.

I don't want to jump over streams (I don't want the ability either but since there is no free will I won't be able to help myself but take shortcuts), I want to use bridges just like everyone else would in real life.

Bridges? I'm gonna ford every stream I see just for the fun of it. With or without Roach! :horse:

Seriously, I have no problem with jumping. I'm guessing it's the Witcher 2 'jump the wall or ledge' kind of thing. But at will, as in no walls or ledges are needed to actually jump.

jump is a important thing for open world games, have the freedom for make your own way, even if this end on a fight vs some big monster or find a strange house/dungeon.

Contextual jumping sucks, I don't want a jump icon to tell me where I can jump. The way the W2 did it it's basically another form of spoon-feeding.

CDPR have great artists that can hide good items and do maze like maps with tons of hidden shit but it becomes perfectly obvious where to jump if you have those dumb rocks. If we had manual jumping they'd have more things they can hide and more stuff for us to miss and explore.

Also nobody was scared of the encounters and fights with the dragon because there are invisible walls. It would add a whole new dimension to the fight if we were actually able to fall and jump. They could add jumping dodges as well

I don't think I would ever finish the dragon encounter if it was possible to fall down from that tower:cat:

that's just level design though, it's not like they NEEDED to have the first right there.

God, so this. I don't care that much about jump or crawl or cartwheel or prance or whatever unlikely movement FPS have taught us we need, ( although I'd like jump, of course, along with crawl and prance, because, well, prance), but I'd really like both vertical exploration and such intimate, overheard moments.

maybe u can use the jump to make different attacks in combat ... maybe it might be helpful against some enemys who can fly or smth .. other than that i think its just there to replace the scripted jumps ... these would be too much work on that big scale to script every little stone that u can trip over ...
