Does Anyone Else Feel Like This About the Main Story/Romances vs Side Quests?
First off, I want to say I'm a huge fan of the Witcher Series. I loved the trailers and the concept behind "The Witcher" and I've really been pulled in. That being said I've been let down with the third one quite a bit. I guess I'm used to Bioware getting me very interested in the characters and the story and I thought the Witcher 1 and 2 really competed with that...but this 3rd one is a big let down in some ways.
First, I didn't replay 1 and 2 like I usually did with Dragon Age or Mass Effect series, but I remember this about the series:
Witcher 1-Introduced to the mythos of a monster killer for hire. You had amnesia about who you were. Hot Triss seduces you and helps you find out who you are all the while your fortress was attacked by a criminal organization that wanted to steal the secrets of mutation. You also found out about the huge prejudices against non-humans. You end up getting the organization for stealing your secrets and then you find out the Order of the Flaming Rose headmaster was nuts and started talking about the end of the world...you nix him day solved.
Witcher 2-More vague, but your framed for killing a king by another Witcher. You track this dude down and find out he was manipulated in some political scheming. Also the mages are overreaching and trying to play politics. Triss and you are still a couple. You also get involved with the humans vs non humans thing. I remember letting Letho live because it was a misunderstanding, but can't remember all the Mage stuff. Your name is cleared.
Now to set up the Witcher 3 and my gripes....I feel like this game just depended on people reading the books...I don't know who Ynneffer is, how Geralt got his memory back, and why I should care about this chick. I also don't know what the politics of the day really are...
We really needing more of a here is Geralt getting his memories of Yennifer etc back scene. We needed a scene showing Triss and Geralt parting. Also I feel like the romances were so meh...I don't even think Triss and Yennifer argue when they would see each other in Kaer Mohren?
Also who is Ciri! Like again just spring this character on and its hardly enough to get you caring about her. No backstory on her blood or why she matters really.
It just seems like some of the darn side quests had more of an interesting story and made more sense than the main story. The main story just depended on us having read a book vs the game. Skellig too, like who are all these people and how do they know me? I just didn't get involved with the characters like I would with say a Bioware game.
Hell I started playing Smite and that has pulled me away from this game, at least finishing it, because I'm just not "attached" like I should be....I got to the point in the game where it tells you to save and do all the side quests and I got pulled away from the game....Also I was like really the game is about to end and I feel so lost as to why any of this crap matters, Anyone else?
