Doing Griffin Quest in White Orchard (NG+)

So I talked to the Nilf officer at the garrison to initiate the quest. I thereafter looked in my inventory and lo and behold! there were not one, but 32(!) buckthorns in my inventory.
Now my memory may not be what it used to be, but I could've sworn that I had to actually talk to Tomira then hunt for the item in my first playthrough.
Did CDPR simplify some of the quests in a NG+ playthrough? If so is there a list somewhere of what's changed?

Edit: Mystery solved. Turns out I already had buckthorn in my inventory (from the previous game); it's just that initiating the quest moves it to the quest item category.

Yeah. The same thing can happen in an NG, if you collect buckthorn before visiting the garrison.

You can temporarily store your buckthorn in the stash chest if you want to get the "visit the herbalist" quest step.

Heh I've got so many herbs and alchemy ingredients in my inventory (literally 100's) but I still hit 'E' whenever I come across any loot.
