DOs and DONTs on 1.08

Hi,

I've looked around for a thread similar to this, but couldn't find one - it could very well be that I've missed something, in which case I'll gladly accept a link :)

I play on PS4, but since some issues are common to all platforms I thought the thread would be most useful in this section.

So, as I said I play on PS4, which means version 1.08. I've clocked dozens of hours on the game, but mainly because I've restarted twice - once because of story breaking bugs, once because I wanted to restart on DM.

In my current save, the only bugs I'm suffering from are that I can't examine pigs in the Fool's Gold quest, and finishers don't seem to work propertly (which I can live with).

What I'm after is some kind of list to prevent bugs in advance... A sort of instruction list to work around them before they cause problems. For example:

* Once you've initiated Fool's Gold, DONT walk away and do other stuff, DO go see the pigs right away

Or

* DONT start the "Following the Thread" quest until you've visited Trottheim and completed "Flesh for Sale"
(I know this is not a fully accurate statement, but I never got to do it right, so forgive the approximation)

I know hints like those will be synonyms of spoilers, but hey, if I learn something about the story which helps me continue to play and enjoy the game, I'll get over it.

Of course, this is not just for me - if the community thinks a 'checklist' like that could be useful, it might be worth compiling and making sticky. It's different from just reporting the bugs once they happen, it's about helping players sidestep them before they bump into them.

DON'T start the "King's Gambit" quest before completing "Cave of dreams" (both on Skellige's main island).
The later quest will logically become unfeasible but will still be in the quest log - it's a bug.

Thanks.

A lot of people are complaining about the Skellige's Most Wanted quest bug, is there a way to avoid it by doing particular things in a particular order?

Skellige's Most Wanted works with the Steam version, and MIGHT work OK with the Gog one. Both were hotfixed for this before 1.08 came out, but I think that on Gog it may depend on how you get your updates. It's still an issue on the console versions. There's no way of avoiding the bug if you do the quest.

The Following the Thread/Flesh for Sale one isn't really a bug, it's by design. There's actually quite a lot of "Do things in the right sequence" hints that would be helpful, so it's OK to add them to the list, but they're not necessarily bugs :)

The same with King's Gambit/Cave of Dreams - the only bug is the inaccurate reporting in the journal. For logical reasons, Cave of Dreams must be done first.

Not sure if it's too late for you, but for the benefit of anyone else who encounters this. Looking at the pigs can safely be done, even if you're low level.

Not Zombie BbL? That would work too... but you'd probably have to kill him after anyway. (And then would promptly fail it for the existing reason).

Yes, agreed - was just trying to think of examples to show the DO/DONT format, realised this wasn't the best.

As for the piggy bug, of course it will still work for some people - I guess I should have made that clearer, the list of hints that I'm after is something to help "guarantee" (or at least increase the probability) that stuff will go smoothly.

@TH3WITCH3R: Glad it worked for you ! Sounded like a fun quest, hopefully I'll get to examine pigs soon.

I was on my third playthrough before I ever played Flesh for Sale. To be honest, I don't think it was worth waiting for.

I found two quests that won't active if you done something before. Because they're made by design like The Following the Thread/Flesh for Sale case.

Berengar’s Blade quest in Kaer Morhen, It won't activate if you already have Tor'haerne Silver Sword Diagram.

Mysterious Passenger quest, activate after last quests, Nameless and The Calm Before the Storm in Skellige. However it won't appear in quest list and not start quest although it pop-up message, if you already meet Uma, the ugly baby in Velen, who Baron won it in card game.

DO examine the drowner's corpse before going inside the cave and concluding the Monster Slayer quest in Kaer Morhen. If you examine the body after finishing it, the quest will reactivate with no way of finishing it.
DO NOT buy the Novigrad pass before triggering Thou Shalt Not Pass or said quest will never appear in quest log.
DO NOT play gwent with Serenity before unlocking Dijkstra (meeting him for the first time) or the gwent quest will complete prematurely.
DO visit and complete the infamous southern abandoned site in White Orchard (the one with 4 ghouls) as soon as you can. If you go there after having left to see Emhyr, ghouls will not appear.
DO NOT obtain the Tor'haerne schematic before starting "Berengar's Blade" in Kaer Morhen ot it will become unavailable.
