Double command bug

Double command bug

Hi, I just bought the new enhanced edition but I encountered a problem during the dialogues. Sometimes the game skips the first lines, as if I had very quickly clicked to skip them. I investigated further, and it seems that the game sometimes recieves a double input of a command, either on the keyboard or clicking the mouse. It can be scrolling the menus on the keyboard or choosing a reply in dialogues by clicking the mouse.

It is very annoying to miss those first few lines of dialogue and I wonder if anyone has encountered the problems and found a solution.

So I just got TW2 Enhanced Edition PC (brand new, never played before)

And I got this weird bug where when I Click on a dialog option, it seems to do so twice because it selects the option then skips the first dialog sequence (what ever I was going to say) and on to the next sequence. It also does this when I press ENTER on the keyboard.

Also, when I use the keyboard to navigate the dialog or in game options, using the up and down arrow key causes it to go down two items at a time, not the expected one. It just keeps skipping every odd item.

The game play seems fine though which is why its weird, the doubling only occurs in the UI.

not sure if this is a known bug, but I would appreciate some sort of workaround, Thanks!

I guess nobody has encountered this bug?

well my specs are OK for low settings, not sure if that affects it

Intel i5 3.0 GHz
AMD HD 6570
6GB ram

thats all the essential ones I guess.

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem and it's getting really irritating. I'm not sure what could be causing it.
Here're my specs:
HD 5770s in crossfire
8gb RAM
i5 3570
Logitech G510 and G13
Razer Naga mouse

All my drivers are currently updated and I've been scouring the net looking for answers and no luck.

May have something to do with the mouse or its drivers. Have you tried using a plain MS-compatible mouse?

Has nothing to do with type of mouse since keyboard navigation acts the same way (i.e. pressing enter instead of clicking)

I've encountered the same problem, but have not found a solution. Hoping to find one soon. It is apparently only effecting a small number of us though, so it may be difficult to get help

I've tried a standard Dell usb keyboard and it does the same thing. It's something in the way TW2 is handling inputs specifically, because the mouse and the keyboard are different manufacturers using different drivers, but they are all acting like I hit a button twice.

More likely, it's something in your computer, because this is the first thread I have seen reporting such behavior. I use all "vanilla" USB peripherals (generic Acer, Dell, Logitech, and Microsoft keyboards and mice) and have not seen this on six different computers.

Any driver that screws with the USB timing, and this is known to include Razer mouse drivers, is capable of causing double detections in any application. It's not a property of the game. Get the Razer mouse and its driver completely off your system and see if that helps.

What mouse and mouse driver are you using? Razer mice are reported to cause this problem on other applications.

can you try to reset _all_ the Keyboard and Mouse settings in every Control Panel dialog?
also, delete MyDocuments/Witcher2/config/user.ini and rerun Configurator.exe to reconfigure your Input and Display settings

If this doesn't help, try to find out what rate your USB is being polled at. Stock settings for any Windows setup is 125/sec. But "gaming" mouse drivers and inveterate tweakers like to raise this, to 250, 500, or 1000/sec. While it does often improve pointer performance, it may also cause incompatibilities.

If you're running a special driver like Razer's, it probably also comes with a tool for configuring and viewing the polling rate. Otherwise you can use something like Direct Input to find out.

I don't know what your first sentence is telling me. I can try rerunning the configurator and deleting the user.ini but the user.ini doesn't have commands for input detection. I wouldn't think the configurator would either, unless the issue is caused by some kind of graphic issue.

Guy N'wah: I play a lot of games on this system and TW2 is the only game where this problem is manifest. While I agree it is something on my system, it is also how TW2 handles whatever is on my system, I would argue, incorrectly.

Also, there's at least one other thread about this issue, but, yeah, it is uncommon.

My polling rate is high, but TW2 should have no problem with that. I say should, because it is a AAA title and aimed a more hardcore audience and requires higher system req's. A demographic that tends to have things like gaming mice with high polling rates.

I'll try these things out (at least the ones I understood).

Finger pointing doesn't get the game running for you: whether or not the game does not handle nonstandard mouse input, and whether or not other games do handle it, you have to do what it takes to get the game running, not demand a fix to a problem that most others do not have and you provided no help in understanding, a fix that cannot be forthcoming from volunteers who are in no position to provide it and may have little interest in helping users who will not help themselves.

Set the polling rate to the standard 125 Hz. If the game runs correctly at that rate, you have both identified the problem and found a workaround. If you're not willing to do that, then nobody here can help you.

Please refrain from posting to this thread. Those interested in identifying the issue will take if from here.

I changed my polling rate to no avail. I also reset my user.ini and configurator to no avail. I checked on my control panel settings for mouse and keyboard--the settings here are all default, was there anything else to do here? In any case, if there was something different here that was effecting how my inputs were handled, I'd see it in other programs.

I'm curious as to the other people having this problem: do we have anything as far as hardware/software (besides TW2, of course) that we all have in common? My specs are above. I also have origin, raptr, and steam running in the background--I'll check with all of those turned off and probably go to msconfig and turn of all non-MS services as well.

Then you probably do not care to learn that this is a well-known problem with these mice and nothing to do with the game.

The solution for me was to disable the in-game overlay for Raptr. I don't know if this applies to anyone else, but that's what was causing the problem for me.

I am glad, however, that I was shamed into believing my mouse was the culprit. I mean, those two threads show obviously that my mouse is the problem. I was so close to removing every piece of usb related software and equipment on my system just to get one game to not have a small, but nagging problem. Good thing I had a reactionary and presumptive hand to guide me through the troubleshooting.

ummm, somehow the first step should always be "disable and quit every running application before running the game" eh...

nice that you have found the culprit.

cheers

The mouse was never the culprit since it would have been a clear issue in other games or in the OS.
The problem is indeed Raptr.

Disable Raptr to solve this
