Did they really say that? For instance Dorian, who when introduced as a character was put up in a lot of press releases about how this is the first ever fully gay character in your party. And what did they say about Dorian? He likes to 'look dashing' first and save the world second.
It's as if you stopped reading what I wrote halfway through the second sentence...Dorian is a new character. Maybe we should wait and play the game first, before we start judging the writing.
What's wrong is that BioWare is seemingly incapable of balancing inclusion with good writing. For BW, it's like it's enough to shamelessly pander to that crowd, and, as a result of that impression, the story and characters do indeed suffer. What is wrong with including more LGBT characters. Would the story suffer? Or the characters?
So, aside from the fact Dorian looks like he could be marching in a gay parade, has a snidely whiplash stash, and he's up on the latest hair styles...he's actually an excellent character design. By far the best looking person in the game.
Haha, no. CDPR has nothing to learn from Bioware except how not to treat your fans.I am surprised how many people on this forum are against LGBT characters. It feels as if including them would make their game less enjoyable. LGBT content is great and including it in games is important. That is something that CDPR should learn from Bioware.
The other funny thing, other than Leliana's bugged romance being used to justify Ho Yay Forever, is that in a GaymerX panel, the developers said the same things about DA2's romance system that would have earned you a scarlet H on BSN. "How could you say that making all the companions bisexual diminishes their story?! Homophobe!!!!" Gaider said just that on the panel.Try telling the BSN that. They were content with table scraps when they deserved better, especially from a dev that supposedly cares about this stuff. At least they committed for DA:I, but unlike TW2, the gay characters look awfully cliche.
Well I never said that I was putting emphasis on how much emphasis they put on on relationships, especially the gay ones. You sound as if Bioware had created only LGBT characters, which is not true.
Sure there are some far and few in between characters that aren't well written in The Witcher, but there is much more quality in that series. Origins was a more serious tone, with cheesy romance. They decided to just make cheese pizza now, it works for them I guess. And what @Tommy said, how is the LGBT community not disgusted at their representation in their games?!What is wrong with including more LGBT characters. Would the story suffer? Or the characters? Also not every character that Bioware created is shallow just as not every character in the Witcher games is well written. Both developers had created great and less great characters.
What valid points? You said about Dorian "He likes to 'look dashing' first and save the world second." then you talked about Arcade Gannon followed by saying that people dislike pandering. And they should dislike it, but including LGBT characters is not pandering at all. Besides, it really seems that you formed your opinion of Bioware's writing quality of this character based on one sentence. Is that one of the valid points you mentioned? Or maybe you meant something like that "aside from the fact Dorian looks like he could be marching in a gay parade" posted by Slimgrin? It's as if you stopped reading what I wrote halfway through the second sentence...
In fact all of your replies, to everyone that has responded to you, ignore every valid point made. Are you just trolling at this point or do you really not care about a discussion you introduced?
You right they are just as human as everyone else, so there should not be any reason to not include content that they would enjoy. Besides Bioware does not make a big deal out of it. They have introduced every companion with a short interview and talked at GaymerX about romances. I think that's a reasonable amount.Well I never said that I was putting emphasis on how much emphasis they put on on relationships, especially the gay ones.
A gay union!? Woopty motherfucking doo! It's a sexual relationship just like everyone else except it's same sex. Oh how special, let's make a big deal about it. Homosexuals are just as human as anyone else.

@chance: Wrong image, Sidspyker's should be the original.![]()
David Gaider has never said that making all the companions bisexual diminishes their story. What he said was that in DA2 the had four romance paths and they decided to make them all bisexual so that all players would have a choice. But at the same time it could be interpreted as some sort of compromise, which he didn't like because bisexuality is not a form of compromise and it shouldn't be taken as such.Haha, no. CDPR has nothing to learn from Bioware except how not to treat your fans.
As for gay characters, it's not important to me. I don't mind a gay character and even a gay follower- I took Arcade and Veronica along in Fallout New Vegas and it was fine, I enjoyed their personal story arcs. Because it was just a part of their character and not YOU GUYS WE MADE SOME GAYS the way Bioware trumpets it. If what you're looking for is pandering, absolutely- Bioware's your developer.
Then also, as chance pointed out, the real problem is that the writing has sucked so badly that their social justice preachiness is literally all they've got at this point. I'm not paying to be preached at. Edit to add- I'm finding this same problem with the new novel. The depiction of Celene is so flat and unappealing that the only thing there is the titillation of a lesbian romance, which Bioware made sure we notice because of the dedication. It's classic pandering.

Of course they make a big deal out of it. Sexual orientation is not a defining trait for a character. It does not tell anything but which gender s/he is attracted to - we do not know more about his/her goals or behavior, nothing about what interaction with him/her will be like, by knowing the sexual orientation. Nothing that is of any relevance to a roleplaying game, if it is not supported by the narrative. And while we do not know all about the plot of DAI, I think it is safe to assume that sexuality is not one of the pillars upon which it is built. So, what good is it for a marketing campaign to put so much ephasis on "romancing options" but pandering to certain audiences? What does that information tell us about the quality of the game or what the game has to offer? You right they are just as human as everyone else, so there should not be any reason to not include content that they would enjoy. Besides Bioware does not make a big deal out of it. They have introduced every companion with a short interview and talked at GaymerX about romances. I think that's a reasonable amount.
They are not disgusted because everyone has a different opinion. You don't like the characters and that is fine. I don't like the LGBT characters in the Witcher games and find their portrayal disgusting and this is also fine. And I don't agree that the Witcher games have more quality that Dragon Age. I think it's the other way around. Again just my opinion.
