Cause romance obsessed fans like him. I've seen on other forums some images taken from the BSN romance threads that are bat s*** crazy.

So why Cullen and not say Fergus Cousland or Loghain? Not sure, maybe more people found that minor character from DAO more attractive than others? Maybe a lot has to do with fan fiction? When it comes right down to it I don't understand these romance obsessed fans and what characters strikes a cord with them. I mean I never got the Tali obsession either.

Sometimes I wish BioWare would just remove all relationships from their games, if you saw the posts Ive seen you would know some of these 'fans' are well past the healthy interest point.

I still don't get it... Seriously, what's so interesting about him? Does he look very handsome or something? I'm a guy so I don't know and I don't care but as far as his personality goes, he's just a batshit crazy douche with 0 personality.

If you think THAT was weird check THIS out http://forum.bioware.com/topic/228736-talis-sweat/

It is a shame also that NPCs are static. Time to move past that. Skyrim's denizens weren't frozen in place (not to mention TW2), and it'll be 3 years old by the time DA:I comes out. Cross-gen isn't an excuse.

I agree, that is my biggest disappointment so far.

I don't really want to insult people who do fanfiction because well...

Witcher games ARE FANFICTION

It's all in good fun anyway, like it's fun reading @Cormacolindor 's link. It's not an eyesore because it's a mostly private thing unlike the My Little Pony fans.

so Flying Spaghetti Monster bless them

Edit: I'm also confused about BioWare choosing to bring Cullen back. I don't feel he was established enough in DA:O to justify a return, and what little of him was established wasn't in such good light, let alone displaying traits befitting a commander. I think the role of the general could have been filled by a new character. But it doesn't matter too much - from that brief glimpse of him in the game against the Inquisitor he seems different than how he behaved as a warden in the Mage Circle. Good different.

You forget that Cullen played a quite major role in Dragon Age 2 when he was second in command of Knight Commander Meredith in Kirkwall`s templars for nearly ten years. And it is already been said by the writers that Cullen pretty much had to take control of City of Kirkwall after the events of DA2, when Meredith died and Hawke dissapeared.
It is actually quite natural he has grown more into an commanding figure since then.

The character of Cullen has been seen quite a bit of development over the course of these three games and Cullen`s fandom say that is one of the reasons they find the character so interesting.
Dont judge them.

DA2 was so forgettable for me that I forgot all about Cullen's role in the game.

Maybe they felt he had an interesting back story? I mean the Cullen you see in DA:I isn't at all like one in Origins. (I haven't played 2 so idk). Character development is pretty cool and I'd like to know how he came to change so drastically.

That's it??? Well, I'm not gonna judge, I'm a guy so I have no idea if he's hot or not and I don't care :p. The personality of a character is far more important than being "hot" to me. They can even be ugly if they are ugly in an interesting way.

He got transferred to Kirkwall after DAO and saw all the blood mages and abusive templars. He rebelled against the knight commander after she sniffed a bunch of red lyrium and started a war with the circle, he quit after he saw the templars unfit to solve all the problems with magic.

When did he quit? In a book or one of the comics?

Oh, wow, I actually completely forgot his involvement in DA2. If that's the case, then yeah, it makes more sense. In my mind there was a huge gap between DA:O and DA:I, so the jump felt strange to me.

Not really sure what you mean by your "don't judge them" comment. All I said was that I was confused about the decision to use Cullen, and that it seemed strange to me. Naturally, because I forgot about DA2, which you kindly reminded me. But then again I never understood when an opinion transformed to a "judgment" anyway.
Nevermind Saladin, chance clarified.

Pretty sure that 'Don't judge them" comment was intended for me seeing as how I said I saw the obsessed romance fans posts and a lot of those posts were bat s*** crazy. A statement I fully stand behind, but I don't feel like posting the images I've seen as it would be directly making fun of specific people and even though they use made up names on forums I felt that would be rude to do.

That said I didn't mean all Cullin fans were crazy. I am specifically talking about the obsessed romance fans, for many characters, not just Cullen. And that Ive seen way too many posts out of those romance threads that go well past good taste.

Ah, right, I missed the context earlier.

Anyway, I enjoyed that short scene with Cullen. He was more cool-headed than his portrayal in Origins. The animations were good and he was quite expressive. Also had that stiff, military respect when the Inquisitor arrived and was quick to stand up, while kept some nonchalant attitude. I'm looking forward to see how Cullen behaves throughout this game, and I'm also a bit curious now to go read about his involvement in Kirkwall and his time after the Mage Circle.

From what I recall, if you've played DA:O as a female mage [elf or human] Cullen would have a crush on you. Forbidden love and such and such.

I imagine when it was finally decided that DAII story would focus on mage/templar conflict they brought him back to have some familiar face around. His popularity grew.

And now he is a romancable advisor and one of the most important people in the game.

FROM ZERO TO HERO

Interesting videos. I like that you can customize and upgrade stuff Skyhold and their overall way of handling it.

The inquisitor animations probably look weird to you because of how she holds her hands when idle and when walking: she keeps them too far away from her body for the posture to look comfortable for prolonged periods of time. Animations are still quite bad overall, especially the facial ones.

Everybody's glued to the spot, that sucks. Would be more awesome for people to walk around unless they specifically need to be in a place (like say a blacksmith), have them go for a bite to eat, join in and have a conversation etc. etc. Right now it all feels so dead and static.

It just gives me this overall feeling of lack of polish and attention to detail.

This truth here rn. After playing the DA:O storyline as a mage I found his character cute, if frigid. Now he has a better appearance and a more confident personality he got way hotter and more desirable. Dat smirk

Ok well as a straight girl I can tell you he is hot (although why do you as a guy think you can't tell when someone is attractive? I can tell a pretty woman from an ugly one, why can't you do the same?)
And his personality is very interesting for reasons explained by other people in the thread so now we have an answer as to why he is popular. Yay.

If I remember correctly Cullen got very damaged mentally when he saw Uldred and his his kind torture his friends to death during their rebellion in DAO. Cullen pretty much experienced worst of the blood magic when he was kept prisoner among the corpses for days and decided after that the mages deserved harsher treatment.
Gregoir, knight-commander of Fereldan Circle didnt trust Cullen after that and decided to "give him to Meredith`s care" by transferring the templar knight to Kirkwall`s Circle.

While there, Cullen quickly became knight-commander Meredith`s favorite and she promoted him to Knight-Captain.
At the start of DA2, Cullen was pretty much sworn follower of Meredith and her leardership, but as the story progressed he became to doubt Meredith`s sanity more and more until he finally openly opposed her by going to Hawke`s side at the end of DA2.

True. Gotta admit, Cullen's latest incarnation is pretty hot. He wears that armor well.

Go ahead, Dragon Age 2 is as good game as any other if you can forgive those recycled maps and couple of ridiculous horrible looking npcs
View attachment 6741

I actually played it from start to finish earlier this year with my brother (he with mage Hawke and me with warrior Hawke. With all the dlcs included. Great fun.

Even if you dont manage/want to finish the game you can just decide which decisions you want to carry from it to DAI using Dragon age Keep.

As a beta tester of DA keep I can tell you that it looks all in all very promising and it is going to open up to rest of the audience in 29th this month.

Tbh my expectations of DA2 are not high because people have been telling me it wasn't particularly good. But I think because of that I will probably enjoy it because of my low expectations. But it takes an awful lot to make me not finish a game, so I expect I will get through it.
It looks like it's £15 on Origin which is a bit expensive but I will decide whether to buy it or not this week I guess.

edit: I can't find the DLCs anywhere... do they make a big difference?
