Thing with armor variety is that it seems they went for the idea that armors would look in a specific way on your inquisitor as well. It's something they did for companions but it's clear to me it also applies to your PC.

That's all well and good except when they make you dress like a total pansy.

@Princess_Ciri, Ahhh, I love Cassandra's looks of scorn. Practically every expression she makes is cute, lol. My Inquisitor would annoy her just to see that face.

It's only annoying her through telling her how adorable she is, lol. I think she just pretends to be annoyed but secretly loves it ;)

I am mentally exhausted... I don't know what is up with this game, but my crashes started yet again today :( :( :( It's terribly annoying. I've done every fix in the book, but it seems that there's nothing I can do to keep this from happening. Only thing I can do is just deal with it and hope it goes away. Sometimes it won't freeze for days, other times it freezes frequently and eventually stops later in the day. It seems like it might be an issue with GTX 970 or something and every fix I do helps temporarily, but inevitably the issues start again.

http://answers.ea.com/t5/Dragon-Age-Inquisition/Dragon-Age-Inquisition-Black-screen-into-a-force-restart-quad/td-p/4022365/page/3

Guess I'll just have to deal with it until a patch comes, but it's really killing me since I worry constantly about game crashes and freezing instead of just enjoying the game.

---------- Updated at 03:04 PM ----------

Next time I say I found a fix, someone kick me because I jinx myself every time. Bioware needs to hurry up with those patches. Needs to be top priority since so many are having issues.

I've got an i5 quad core 3470 CPU, and my graphics card is a 970 GTX. My ram is 8. Thought it was 16, but I think that's if I put in two more cards, but all you need is at least 4 for the game to run effectively I hear.

I guess I should also mention that I had most of my settings on Ultra or higher. According to everything I've read though, my computer should be able to handle that. And it does. No choppiness, nothing. Just crashes and freezes at random intervals, and of various frequency. No pattern at all.

Ambient Occlusion is on SSAO, and antialiasing or whatever is completely off.

I recently dropped shadow quality to medium and everything else to high. And what do you know, the crashing stopped... for now. This is annoying however, because I notice the shadow detail drop, and it's not terrible, but you know. Once you've seen how detailed and good something looks, it sucks to go back because you'll always know.

I actually haven't noticed any detail or graphics decrease from dropping texture from "fade touched" to High, but when I drop mesh from ultra to high, there's this annoying little armor clip on my shoulderpad that I see every. single. time. Grrr.

Will test the game to see how it does now. If the change is positive, I'll try upping mesh to get rid of that clip. Maybe bring shadows from medium to high too. But only if this actually stabilizes my game for a while. Otherwise, I can suck it up and deal. Still looks hella better than the console version, and a few extra shadows isn't worth the annoyance.

---------- Updated at 04:44 PM ----------

@Luxorek

Left the game on in skyhold since there's plenty of people around to stress test the game. Didn't crash while I was gone, and battled a giant to see how the game performed there since on bad days like now would usually crash at least once in fights like that. Nothing bad happened, so I guess (FOR NOW) dropping the quality to high is the answer... fuck me. Really wanted to get the most out of my graphics card but I just can't do that for this game until they get their shit together and give fixes.

Also should note, since I used the "to the death" ability and really laid the pounding on that pussy ass giant, it wasn't a very long fight. Probably not the best test ever, lol. Didn't help that my shield bash glitched and knocked him in the air eventually and killed him with fall damage. But whatever, I can't help that I'm a fucking boss, now can I?

---------- Updated at 05:48 PM ----------

Update 2: Aaaaand BAM! Crash crash crash. Game is broken, needs update, that is all. Graphics setting does nothing really. Not much, anyway. Only thing I can do is try to survive this last playthrough or play something else, even though I really don't want to. I want to play this fucking game, crash free goddamn it, but it's just not gonna happen unless EA releases a patch, or someone makes a fan made patch. Either way, if this continues, I think I'll just have to be done with it. Game's just too frustrating to deal with.

At least I got through one playthrough I guess. Not sure I can put up with this any longer.

@Unkindled Weird that you've been having so many problems. I've been running on High on all the settings on my 560ti with 8gb RAM and 1090T Black, and I've only had 2 crashes in 40+ hours of gameplay. Out of curiosity, what model/maker is your 970?

Nvidia if that's what you mean. Geforce GTX 970. A ton of other people are having issues too. It's very upsetting because I love this fucking game but I'm exhausted from the reoccurring crashes. I don't even want to play anymore. :( I'm just tired. And the devs haven't said a fucking word beyond the stupid companion talking glitch. Which I don't even have. Sigh. Just my fucking luck. I just can't deal with a game that's going to ruin my immersion and enjoyment at random. All the while, my other friends are having fun and enjoying themselves issues free with lesser hardware. The fuck. :(

Nvidia makes the chips and stuff, but I didn't think they made their own cards. That's where I thought MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, EVGA, etc come in, but maybe I'm wrong. Is it a standard model? Superclocked?

Still sorry to hear that you're having such a hard time with it when you want to enjoy it. :(

Oh I see what you mean. EVGA is the manufacturer. Standard model, didn't want to mess with any sort of overclocking junk.

I just need to take a break for my sanity's sake. It's again not so bad that I can't play, but just bad enough to keep me from completely enjoying it, and that's just unacceptable. I'll probably keep trying anyway, deal with the crashing. Since I'm such a glutton for punishment. I've apparently got 153 hours total according to Origin, so I suppose I got my money's worth. But still, I'm not done fucking playing. But I might be. Who knows. Sigh.

---------- Updated at 06:34 PM ----------

@shinobi2u K I can't seem to find a straightforward english fucking answer to this, so someone help a noob. What will lowering my gpu clock offset and mem clock offset do? I'm seeing yet another "fix" suggestion where people say lowering their gpu clock fixed the freezing for them. Thoughts?

---------- Updated at 06:39 PM ----------

K I looked it up and I don't know how any of that works, but my clock was higher than the "base" clock of the GPU, so I shrinked that down to 1050 MHz. Even if this does nothing, taking off overclocking couldn't hurt my system, so.

---------- Updated at 07:05 PM ----------

Couldn't say yet if this helped because I just readjusted my graphics settings back to normal, except ambient occlusion and antialiasing. Keeping those off for good. Anyway, I notice one big difference when running the game on my card at least.

Normally from what is considered "default" from the manufacturer, simply starting up the game takes my tempurature with the fans up 50 percent from 29 c to 41 c.

When I started up the game this time, it stayed solid at 31 c. Even if I still get freezes, a whole drop in tempurature by 10 c can't be bad. But my card was never in dangerzone temps anyway. 50 cs, maybe low 60s max during intense gameplay.

There seem to be a lot of concerns being raised about the EVGA design, and cooling issues?

@Unkindled

With your system you should be able to max out all options without any problems.

I have an overclocked GTX 970 and only VERY rare crashes in DAI with everything on max quality, 4xMSAA and HBAO+. Maybe one crash every 10 hours or so at the maximum. No stuttering at all. Framerate is about 45 to 60 FPS. Never drops below 40 FPS.

Only issue that I as a noob to all of this noticed was the stupid ass clock boost thing. I set my clock to negative whatever, and simply because I CAN set the clock higher at current temperatures, the graphics card will automatically boost the MHz for me, and I can't turn that off... The problem is Frostbite is notorious for being sensitive to any instability in the game, and this forces instability basically. Normally for higher performance, lol.

I solved it by underclocking it enough that the MHZ stays away from the "boost clock" rate, since the damn thing wants to overclock on its fucking own... That seems like a terrible design decision to me right there.

---------- Updated at 10:49 PM ----------

edit: I uninstalled the recent drivers for my gpu and reinstalled them, and the game for some reason actually looks better than before. Also, it is once again stable enough to play, but this is the fourth time now that this has happened at night.... I don't know what it is but it plays much better around this time.... It can't be heat as I'm watching all my temps. Dumb luck I guess, and weird coincidences.

If this freezes some more, I'm going to completely delete my software for this gpu and redownload everything related to it.
