Fortunately we have have many other artists making music for it but I'm wondering if cranking out music on demand for a game studio, creating complete songs with lyrics, is too tall an order for most bands. With Percival they were drawing from their past music and generally just jamming with the music directors.
I listened to all the artists involved and I dislike them all. Like a huge no go. My hopes are for the in-house music, which was very good in the demos/trailers and in TW3.

Personally, of the artists revealed so far I dig a lot the music of Ilan Rubin, Nina Kraviz, and especially Richard Devine. Others (like Grimes, Refused clearly, OnenO, and Run the Jewels) have me a bit intrigued but not quite like the previously mentioned ones.
Can’t say I dislike any of them so far, at least not with a passion, but that might change once the proper full soundtrack is revealed. Regardless, the more industrial-y songs are probably going to become my favorite ones (at the risk of sounding annoying, I still can’t get enough of this one!)

Haven't really heard enough to judge properly. I like NFA for sure.
Haven't heard anything from the artists with the Cyberpunk "punch" I prefer. Hard to define, too. I like lots of music, but yeah, so far nothing really...hits it for me.

Yeah, I get what you mean. So far, there hasn’t been much of what one usually expects from a cyberpunk/neon-noir setting, like synthwave and darksynth. But at least the non-radio soundtrack seems to be covering that front.

I do like all Samurai tracks released so far (especially Never Fade Away) and the Ballad of Buck Reavers is not an exception. One thing that I really enjoy about this one is the composition, a constantly changing tones, alternating between more somber, depressed one, one that is progressively getting angrier and one that feel like a boiling point. It captures really well the emotions going inside the head of a man exploited by the corporation until point of going insane and crossing the line.
So far every song seems to have something distinctive about it, with Chippin In being a very agressive song about the rebellion and anarchy, Never Fade Away being more emotional song about the preservation of one's identity, while Ballad of Buck Reavers is a song about exploitation of workers by Corporations (you could even go as far as saying it's about... person's response ability). Band singing about people rebelling against corrupted system, preservation of identity and Corporate exploitation in a futuristic setting. I wish there was a term for something like that.
By now you should get the point I'm trying to make.
On another note, I get that people want to listen more to the stuff like electronic music in this setting, but I think it's kinda like complaining about the gameplay footage we saw so far being set during the daytime. The night and synthwave music are considered such an integral part of the Cyberpunk, that it's obvious those elements will be present in the game, no doubt about it, but the thing is that the developers need to think way beyond such a preconceptions, since they want to create a world that is believable and feels like it's being lived in. So they can't just make the entire world stuck in eternal night or have people listen to nothing, but electronic music on the radio, because that wouldn't be believable at all. That's why folks at CDPR are going through all of that extra effort with hiring a professional artists representing various genres of music, writing lyrics, recording a new songs from the scratch, while they could just do what people expect and limit themselves to some beep and boops on the radio, because they want to make an actual world filled with people with various musical tastes, listening to different types of music that tells us more about this world or this people without the need of relying on exposition. I understand that one may not like all the songs they are putting out, but going an extra mile for something that normally would be considered fairly trivial, is something worth applauding for.
And for people saying that rap and hip hop doesn't fit Cyberpunk setting, a reminder that songs from those genres are part of the Top 10 most popular songs in Cyberpunk 2020. In other words, Mike Pondsmith clearly holds a different opinion on the matter.

And the list of Cyberpunk movies (Circa 1989) doesn't really have anything like that to them, music-theme-wise:
Is there a genre list I missed?
Not that I don't think those aren't part of Cyberpunk, just interested in this list you speak of. I don't think it's in the Corebook or base sourcebooks...
Anyhoo, to -wrench- things back topic-wise...I wonder if we'll see a movie -in 2077, a short film maybe? Perhaps if so, they might show us something like that in upcoming weeks? That would be cool.

I remember reading it some time ago. I think it might have been a Top 20 list or something like that and it had descriptions of the musical genres next to the songs. At first I was thinking it was in the Rockerboy book, but it looks like it wasn't the case, but I'm still 100% sure I read that. I will look for it in the other books.

Thank you, that was what I was looking for. I think it does demonstrates the various genres of music that people supposed to listen to in Cyberpunk 2020.

Sort of? I actually see less genre there than I would have expected. Metal, chrome-rock, Rap, techno rap, industrial, something political, synth, glam-dance, techno-metal and techno.
Soooo......yeah. Actually way less genres. Mostly techno and variations.
To be honest, I haven't found ANY song in CP2077 that blown me away... Refused is boring af, compositions by Marcin, Piotr and Paul sounds just ok, nothing original and fresh. I don't like this artistic direction. Soundtrack in W3 was greate thanks to Mikolai Stroinski and Piotr Musiał and persival, Marcin's compositions was good, but thats all.
