Not sure if a system that is used by a very small percentage of the playerbase can be considered as well functioning. From a game design perspective, when you invest resources to create a system that should be an integral part of the core game, which no body uses - is a problem that needs to be addressed.

I was mainly talking about Witcher 1, in which alchemy and potion usage was crucial (maybe not on easy). So even if not many people used it (which I doubt), it isn't a problem with a mechanic, it's a problem with a design of difficulty. Make alchemy crucial for not dying on higher difficulties (normal and up) and you will see it being in use. It's not some complicated system, that players are afraid to use.

All I see is a lot of speculations about some kind of hints sacttered here and there with which we try desperately to eliminate our deepest fears about the possible disappointments. I wonder if within 8 months I will be able to remember certain statements here written without feeling ashamed of our daring, with so little information gaven till now..

I did not think that I would be saying this but CD Projekt their focus really does seem to be towards the new console crowd and the ease of use for them.

It seems to me more of a classic emotional backlash from fans over changes to something they love. I don't see how trying to refine the potion system is catering to the console crowd.

If a system, that is directly related to lore and should be core mechanic in a game, is not used by the majority of players for any reason - it is a problem that needs to be addressed. This is CDPR trying to address the problem, perhaps not the best solution, but it doesn't sound as awful and horrible as some of you make it look like.

Thanks man. Armours of wild hunt looks amazing, I was one of the critics of those armours when WIld Hunt trailer came out but they really look nice now.
Griffin art concept is astonishing. The rest is nice or more than nice especially horseback screens.

There IS a big difference between notes about behaviours and weaknesses of monsters in your journal and recommended item. For the former you actually need your brain to sort out which potions might be suited best for what you know about the monster the latter is made for braindead people....

This is casualization at its best, sorry. I don't like that. At all.

Directly from Witcher 1 bestiary: " Graveirs= susceptibility: Sensitive to silver and Necrophage Oil; the Strong Style is most effective against graveirs."

a small dagger. Movement underwater is severely hindered, not too sure about the efficiency of a dagger. The slashing motion cannot compare to the penetrating action of an harpoon.

I thought of a dagger not for slashing but for thrusts. I guess a sword could work somewhat not sure about that, Geralt did fight the Vodyanoi in one of the stories and said he wasn't too efficient in the water hence why I was wondering...

Just came here to say that the new combat system just sold me the game, the animations, the side step, the finishers, great work.
Awesome job can't wait!

Still didn't answer me how it would work with materials that Geralt has access to. As far as I know compressed air canisters are not invented in Geralt's world. (or rubber for that matter since you'll likely use the argument that it doesn't have to be with compressed air)

Just wanted to add my voice to those who dont like auto-replenishing potions. It just sounds incredibly gamey and artificial.

Maybe potions could have several uses or 'charges' before they are depleted. Say you start with a small bottle which you can drink from 5 times before having to brew some more potion. Then, later on, you can replace your small bottle(s) with bigger bottles that can hold more 'charges'. I think this system could encourage players to use their potions more often.

1) It's absolutely senseless from the view of logic. As much as infinite inventory space in TW2.
2) It's killing the reason to explore every square meter of the world as it was in previous games. Especially a first one, where were nigredo/albedo/rubedo differentiation system. And now it comes to "Press X to have all potions"

You get a REDpoint from me.
Limitless inventory is the real enemy. I want a potion I go out to collect ingredients and make one. Nothing could be more straightforward. This system on the other hand is so convoluted.

How exactly does it fit the lore?

for the love of god, there are rubber bands, or simple strings, you dont have to use compressed air

I'm sure, one can shoot a crossbow underwater. Not that I approve the option.

You can shoot them, sure. Are they effective though? Not with the materials that crossbows use in Geralt's setting. It's just not feasible. As someone said in another thread, you might as well throw rocks.
