When CDProjekt mentioned Geralt would be able to scale cliffs, I envisioned something akin to mountaineering. Geralt would freely climb onto regular ledges, but would be required to use alpinism equipment to scale steep or even vertical slopes. It seems that is out of the question and that he can only climb onto ledges any person would be able to climb onto.

Such a shame.

For those talking about the climbing, I remember in an article they once compared it to Uncharted.

I'm not expecting that you'll be able to do everything in that video, but you can see how the basic climbing works.

I imagine the person asking the question is thinking about a system similar to AC. He was also talking specifically about climbing wherever we want, not jumping over fences or going to a specific interaction point (which is what the system in TW3 looks like to me.)

I didn't mean jumping over fences no, I heard that was in the game and I imagine that will just be handled with the jump button and vaulting over. I don't expect it to be as intricate and free and Assassins Creed since that game is built around free running and climbing but I hope we get something better than The Witcher 2 and very specific context sensitive positions we have to be in in order to climb a ledge. I brought it up mainly due to that picture of the Witcher senses and the ledge where it looked very specific where you can actually climb up. I just hope it won't be the case like in some games where we can climb some ledges but others that are just as high and that we should be able to climb are not climbable.

Yeah, we'll have to wait and see on that one. We can only speculate at this point.

Personally, I'd love something similar, just not as over the top. Judging by the Gamespot video, it's not happening, not even remotely. The direct route would have Geralt scaling a pretty steep mountain wall. Instead he goes around and finds an easy ledge to climb onto.

I found you the source if you're interested:

Hero Geralt can explore the open world of The Witcher 3 in new ways, too. He can jump now, and he can climb. It's "not exactly" the climbing you'd find in a game like Assassin's Creed, said Badowski, "it's similar to what we have in Uncharted". "For example," he added, "climb up and there are special sequences, there are special animations built into the system."

Well firstly it seems the MAIN point of the Witcher senses is tracking, atleast that's what I feel. Now if you're referring to this:
Then that's not leading you to the quest, no. It's just highlighting things you can interact with in the environment like the medallion did in TW2 when you pressed Z.

No, I meant the footprints for example, they lead you to Johnny's cave, but there's an exclamation mark on the map so you know where you have to go anyway.

While i see your point , didnt the witcher medalion fill the role of the witcher sense before anyway?

There was no need to use it and I didn´t use it. Only thing what made me use it were when I could not aim on active object so I had to highlight it.

Nope, actually there's an arrow on the ledge of the minimap the whole time.

That's actually directed toward the exclamation mark that appears when you get close enough.
I don't really mind the witcher senses mechanic, but I just don't see the point when you have marks on your map anyway. It might be more interesting to navigate with the 'senses' than watching marks on the map, but then you should be able to turn off the quest marks first. (I hope you know what I mean)

I'm sure they're going to take something like that out of the game. It defeats the point of having witcher senses and tracking footprints, if there's an arrow that just points you to your goal the whole time. So yeah, I would count on that being there for just the demo, for some reason.

Yes but this boiling water is the same water in which Geralt is diving....

The Igni wave is going outwards. The boiling water/ steam is getting pushed outwards towards the enemy and will only hurt them as it's directed straight at them before the sea water cools it down. Geralt wouldn't be affected as by the time that wave would have time to disperse it would have been cooled down.
That sounds like an non-mature game idea. I mean, It would be fantastic that Geral can fly, why not? it's a game!
Now how you went from a simple idea to make Igni believable underwater to letting Geralt fly is beyond me.
Yea it's a video game, but these two ideas are two different levels of believability. What you just said here went off the scale.
An outward steam attack seems more believable. Remember, when it comes to video games it doesn't have to be possible, it just has to be believable.

My preference in games generally is for quest markers to be optional. I don't have problem with them existing, because if you get really stuck, I'd rather turn them on for a few minutes than go off and check the wiki or a game guide, which takes time and runs the risk of other spoilers.

Otherwise, my view remains as before - there's no problem with a marker if GERALT knows where to go. If he knows that it's on that ledge, then I'm happy with a visible indication to help resolve MY disorientation if I'm looking around, or fighting, before going. But if he doesn't know, I shouldn't know either.

So if it was there because Geralt had already tracked it, or it was switched on in the options because whoever was running the demo didn't want to run the risk of getting lost and spending the next five minutes searching, it's OK. Otherwise, no.

We might get an option to turn the markers on/off. On the other hand, it's probably not that easy if you think about it.
Not every quest involves tracking, or finding a cave or whatever that can be connected to the 'witcher senses'. Sometimes you have to e.g go back to cities where I think 'witcher senses' won't play any role.

It would be cool if we could make moves like in the Sword of Destiny fight with the griffin. In the trailer Geralt both slips under its wing and jumps above on it for the final blow. Dragon's Dogma anyone? :p

Would be...but I'm almost sure that there won't be anyting like that in-game. For dozens of huge monsters it would be very money/time consuming to implement features like that. In an interview (posted yesterday) José said that it would be cool but you won't be able to climb monsters in TW3.

Edit: here from 5:34

Before I played the Witcher 2, I was used to games like Mass Effect 2, where you had a giant on screen arrow, directing you the whole time. I remember being so pleasantly surprised when there wasn't anything like that in TW2. I remember the monster contracts in Flotsam for example. I was expecting a giant on-screen arrow, or a location marked on my map, but there wasn't anything like that. Instead I had to read my journal and buy books and basically figure it out on my own. It was like an eye opening experience for me. I had never played a game before that didn't hold your hand and tell you exactly what you needed to do and where you needed to go. It was great. It really changed the way I thought about games.
