E3 Discussion Thread

Sorry, but that's not how reality works. It's a nice dream and I wish we would all live in a fairytale world...

Reality is that the game will be mainstream or at least more mainstream than its predecessors. Every step of CDPR trying to cater to the "open world action game" fan is something they take away from the traditional RPG fan. Bloodworth didn't say "open world RPG" he said literally "open world action game". Just look at the forum here: almost every discussion we have at the moment is about whether the game should offer more "roleplaying" or more "action", no matter whether it's potions, diving, combat or whatever. It's not hardcore vs casual, it's RPG vs action.... :-|

No question that I still love the game but it's nevertheless sad...
Aww.. cheer up man, it is a natural evolution of the art form of rpg's as we know them.
CDPR is not selling out by adding more action to the game, they are just making it better.

Going from RPG to action is reversed evolution. Bigger doesn't equal better... :p

I wish I could believe in fairytales but I'm too long in gaming for that. Call me a pessimist but that's how it is... ;)

@Kinley
Ah, Sapkowski, you old genius...you're so right... :p

Agreed. We don't like it. They cater to lowest common denominator which is casuals. Community knows this.

Come on Jack, no need to play games on this site. The devs and community have a mutual respect. They actually read what we post.

Slim, you may have misinterpreted my last post. It wasn't well written, I admit. I'm not saying CDPR is dumbing down The Witcher. Certain mechanics, like Alchemy and only 2 slots for bombs seem suspect. Some other popular franchises have gone down the casual route and I'm just easily concerned. My apologies if I offended anyone.

I've the same concerns and tried to keep my criticisms specific to relevant threads. I overdo it at times, admittedly. The less we spam our general thoughts, the better. They do read what we say and it's important to remember that.

Look games change, and alter to suit the needs of their creators. CD project red want an immerse experience for their fans. This means real time combat, and a depiction of this combat loyal to the book IE pysical, and gritty with a fair grounding in reality supplanted by wondrous natural phenomenon (magic). They want more people to play, and enjoy their games this means they need to ditch the lack luster, and awkward material from the last games. Witch they have for the most part.

Combat is now in real time, and actually uses hit boxes, AI reactions, and proper spacing to determine how it goes down. No more strange zooming in on enemies awkwardly, or having enemies randomly become invincible, or hit you despite you being well out of their physical reach. No translucent box is on the side of the screen reading out numerical values, and dice roll chance in substitute of having real action physics. No need to awkwardly pause to drink something that you could easily do in real time, or drink a potion like cat eyes to see in the dark despite Geralt being able to do that naturally. No needing to enter an awkward sub menu to switch signs in real time. No need to have Geralt wait for a button prompt to allow us to climb on a surface when we should just be able to climb it. No need to have collected information, and have to dig through five different menu's to find it anymore.

Everything they have done is make elements that are already in the previous game better, and easier to access. While bringing you into the world deeper. Its not dumbing it down its making it smarter, and more intuitive.

"Spear fishing" from a boat and underwater combat are two completely different animals. ;)

He actually fell into the water in that chapter based on the descriptions, it was the Temerians that were throwing the spears. He was trying to rescue that kid that fell over board as well (which I didn't quote but assume many people read that chapter anyway). Well here is another one anyway then.

Geralt violently thrashed his arms in the water, trying to yank his leg from the aeschna's claws as they pulled him towards the rhythmical snap of it's jaws. The master Tutor was correct once again. The jaws were anything but small.

I'm not in the business to quote the whole chapter but that was from the same fight in blood of elves

Great find, so kool i can eat my wwords and SHUT THE FUCK UP NOW. lol..
Looks to me that little tiny white arrow pointing to that swamp hole was only seen while in the witcher sense mode. NICE TY FOR THIS VIDEO:)
LOL Wait what?... I just watched the video and if you mean the tiny white arrow pointing to that swamp hole that appears and that bothers you. It's not bad you need an indication of something to know when to interact. I see no problem there if that was what you were talking about.

"I" dont like shift to action over RPG. Casual garbage. Better for you?
I really want to know whats in your head because this is what i imagine. I may be wrong so you can tell me.
But it seems that the combat in the E3 gameplay was very fast and violent compared to the Wither 2. So by that you may be thinking that it has more action than RPG? Remember how slow the combat in TW1 was and compared to TW2 it changed a lot. Just because the combat seems more actionie it doesn't meant it will not have RPG aspects.
But of course maybe theres more to it that makes you worried.

I don't see how anyone can disagree with you. I sometimes think that people here think that good combat is bad. Maybe because normally see a stigma of combat that looks good is not challenging. Exemple Batman Arkham series Assassin's Creed and the sort. I know CDPR will make a challenging and cool awesome combat.
