There was no excuse for CD to release unpolished gameplay. Microsoft has nothing to do with it, CD is independent.
Also, with only 6 months away, the game should feel a bit more complete.

It is amazing, of course, but I don't understand why they had to show something like that, instead of a proper trailer.

Another trailer? We've already have 3. It was really time for some actual gameplay footage.

It seems we'll be limited to how many mid-combat potions we will be able to carry:

Meditation screen is pretty much unchanged, which is totally ok, it was good in the previous games:

There is still time this week, I doubt that short rushed bit was all they have at E3.

Last year, during the behind closed doors presentation (PC gameplay) they showed an improved meditation animation.

Look on the bright side, it's on next-gen consoles rather than last gen, so the threshold is a little deeper to work with.

I can't see that as a "bright side". Console limitation in video game development stems from its set hardware. Though software developers get better at optimizing their code in time for that hardware, having another stint of 6 years of unprogressed hardware limiting PC capabilities is the "old generation syndrome" all over again. Ultimately, this comes down to the skill of the developer to code FOR the platform and take proper optimization for it, rather than to assume "one size fits all".

PC gaming has been held back by consoles, is held back, and will be held back. It's just the nature of the beast. Nothing that is static can ever hope to challenge that which can evolve; and though 6 years isn't a lot in human years, it's the equivalent of 3 or so generations of new technology for the PC. Deja Vu all over again.

Well in Witcher 2 you couldn't drink potion in mid-combat at all and if it works just like in the previous games (i.e. health slowly regenerating) I don't see a problem at all with this.

I actually meant for them to release their new trailer at the E3, based on controlled gameplay. That would give the ability to show actual footage on their terms.

They still have a lot to learn about how to handle these big events.

I totaly get it now why they were waiting so much to show us some game play. Imagine all the nitpicking and possible negative feedback they would get I dunno, like 3 months ago. Even now, there is of coarse a lot to polish (especially the fighting IMO) but overall it looks great. Well done CDPR :hatsoff:

The problem I have with this is that, if they were to show us gameplay a little before the release then ANY kind of feedback would go to waste. At least now there's room for constructive feedback.

Hey guys they said that was No mans Land, so what city do you guys think that city was at the end of the gameplay? Vizima?

I think that might be Novigrad or whatever city he got the contract from. I really hope we're not going to teleport back to town every time after defeating the monsters.

Of which trailer you are talking? I only expect the announced and already in the Sword of Destiny trailer teased CGI trailer.

Regarding combat, I was kind of expecting more dodge animations. Like different ones. Geralt's dodges were simply jumping back or to the side.

You can also see Geralt kicking mid combat at one point. I love that kind of variation in combat.

I think it was all animations created for the demo after the Griffin knocks Geralt's sword away, i.e. not how it's going to be in the final game.

Can somebody even explain how the footage we saw seems limited by consoles ?...
Usually most of the limitations "imposed" by consoles come in 2 forms: Controls (UI) and Performance (GPU).

As for the latter, the consoles have been touted as "Next Generation", but if you look at the technology they are using, it is actually "Current Generation". "Next Gen" is just a moniker... a label. In the hardware world, technology evolves quickly, and consoles use a set amount of hardware that is never upgraded. Though software does get optimized in time, and performance games are made, these have no chance against true generational changes from "cutting edge" technology. And as long as game software uses old hardware as it's limiting factor, those with power to spare will have a wasted investment.

As for the UI, there are many, though subtle differences between how a gamepad most optimally interacts with menus and inventory control vs. that of keyboard and mouse. Some games, like Skyrim, had horrendous UI that made common tasks miserable on PCs, and fans actually had to wait for modders to present a solution rather than expect one from the developer. In fact, PC gamers for Skyrim had to wait for months until Bethesda released a patched that allowed the (at the time, 4GB limitation of a 32-bit OS the consoles were running on) PC to utilize more than 4GB of memory, which all 64-bit rigs already had.

I am saying that they should have released a video showing controlled gameplay instead of the sword of destiny, if they wanted to show gameplay. Their choice to go like this was a bad one, especially when RPGs tend to not have good gameplay showings.

A stroll around the huge city would be MUCH more interesting to show the details of the world and the huge space. Like I said, they still have a lot to learn.

I hope you understand what I mean now.
