WoW lot's of replies.

How do i see which patch i have ? i just run the game and there was no update so i guess i am having the latest.

I don't need to be welcomed , i am an old user and this would be clear if there was a "forgot password" in the log in page.... also i have trouble register the game ( bought from gamersgate ) but i guess i will have to read faqulty for this.

I don't mind dieing 5-10 times in the entire game but i have reloaded like 80 and i am still in Flotsam , we are sharing a hard disc with my brother, he too plays in easy and faces the same problem, i can accept that i am witcher wise retarded but hell it can not be both of us!

I love the game as i love W1, my opening post was not intented as bashing and i will still buy whatever CDPR releases in the future, my point is that although hardcore gamers are given much attention casual idiots like me are given nothing .

No i don't want to download a god mod, i can make one myself i want to play an easy game on easy setting that it is supposed to be easy and it is not!

Navigate to your witcher 2 bin folder and locate witcher2exe and hover your mouse over it and in the dialog box that appears you will see a version number . If it reads 1.3.7010.49836 then you are on the 1.35 patch which is the latest until the 29th of this month when 2.0 comes out .

Registration is still down at the moment but if you have starting with the 1.1 patch and up there is no need to register the game .

Most of us here are trying to be helpful...but it works both ways .

NO i don't want a challenge
NO i don't want to RTFM
NO i don't like to reload
I want to progress the story and easily wtfpwn everything cause this is how i enjoy gaming, you did hardcore and insane with care for those who like this settings but again as in W1 you fail to deliver to those like me, cause i know i am not the only one who plays on easy.

I imagine 2.0 will not adress the issue so i will have to make myself some petty trainers to freeze HP .
thanks for nothing CDPR

missed the post right above me. So you dont want to godmod? Then you need to play another game or learn how to play this one just a bit, since you love it so much reading couple pages of tips and tricks wouldnt be a problem.

But somehow i feel nothing that's been suggested is going to satisfy you.

@4ad nothing against you but you need to man up and try harder, learn the combat. When i began the game on normal the guards were handing my arse to me all the time, after an hour of so i finally got to the grips of the combat and had to increase it to hard.

Once you understand how combat works the game won't be as hard

I respect anyone's wish to play the game as they please. The easy setting in The Witcher 2, I have to say, is really, really easy in my opinion. Before I got the grasp of combat in my first play-through Letho kept kicking my *ass in Flotsam, so after a while I switch to easy just for this one fight and it took virtually no more effort than being able to click a mouse button, kind of ridiculous in fact. After learning the combat mechanics, the game became a lot easier even in higher difficulties.

All I can say is: The Witcher 2 is a tough game, that's just how it is. "Easy" is very easy but you have to bother a little and learn how things work. Come on, Geralt IS a witcher and he kills monsters for a living; it's inevitable for you to have to engage in combat even in the easiest settings. And by engage, I mean it literally. You have to learn the combat mechanics to fully experience being a witcher. Then you will really, really enjoy this game.

So even if you don't like it, read the manual, the journal and take sometime to learn how the game works.

I do love the people who can't bother learning, or don't care to, how to play the game but still take the time to make a post on a forum.

OP: Just because you and your brother both suck doesn't make the game isn't a cakewalk on easy, it sure as hell is.

Personal opinion follows. This might insult some people.
Cast aside the fact that I don't understand why you would want to play a game.--I mean what's the point in doing so without having to put in any effort? Your achievements wouldn't mean a damn thing.
But everyone's different I guess...
And once again I wonder if ignorance really is such a bliss, that I should try out being just as ignorant sometime...

So, anyhow, you can be quite happy that there's such a good modding community for The Witcher 1 or 2.
The mentioned god mode would just be ideal for you. Maybe add some uber weapons and armor into the mix just to be sure...

Just some pieces of advice for you, if you want to hear them:
  • It wouldn't harm you to learn a little more about the pc especially if it's your favoured gaming platform.
    This involves:
    1. Being open to learn something new. From your hat you wrote it seems like you don't want to...
    2. Even if you don't like it: RTFM!--If you don't know how something works the manual might actually be a very good help. Else you might encounter such problems more often...
  • If you just want to be entertained by a good story watching a movie might indeed prove more satisfying than playing a game.
  • If you like the story of a game that much but find the game too hard to play for some reason: That's what Youtube's for. Go there, search for "Name of the Game Walkthough", find a playlist for such a walkthrough and enjoy.

Sorry about my rude tone (I tried keeping that in the spoiler sections), but I was kind of governed by the tone of your posts...

I rarely died on Easy, which is why I played it (for the story... when 2.0 comes out I'll try Dark Mode for the challenge). In Flotsam if you're sticking close to the village doing quests it's relatively hard to run into a situation you can't get out of, especially if you use Quen. I imagine this is true no matter what difficulty setting. The only portion of the game I died repeatedly on was the first cave filled with Nekkers. The trick there is to leave and come back later after you've gained some more experience and put in some more talent points (and possibly gained new equipment).

If you insist on doing it (the cave) anyway bombs (particularly Grapeshot and Dragon's Dream) and traps are a good way to clear things out in the beginning and from there it's about making sure Quen is either up or you're running/rolling away. A Swallow potion can be a big help too for the few hits you do take (enemies aren't usually fast enough to keep up with you running around unless you accidentally run into a group).

This is one of the few games I've played lately that does NOT have bs deaths (well, except sneaking around the Kaedweni camp, but that's another story) so take the time to learn the mechanics and you'll have a really easy time of things.

Try to patch your game, I supposed you're still running 1.0, which is harder than 1.35.
However, I know you don't seem to want to do any effort, and I completely understand that you want to enjoy the game with easy combat. Nevertheless, try to use Quen, and upgrade it early (magic tree), and craft some bombs. It will make your game easier.

Folk, please just calm down a bit, okay? Just have patience with newbies and no-RTFM :)

@OP
I had a bad experience with the my very first playthrought before patch 1.1. Played on Normal. It is reknown that the Prologue was very unbalanced before the first patch (basic version). Sort of baptism of fire LOL. Once that you realize how to deal with combat, things will go smoother. In case you are wondering, NO, I'm a no hardcore player. I assure you.

I think AnDr01d gave you probably the best advice. What people is trying to say here is that if you find easy mod too hard, go train yourself with the godmode. Learn how combat works and then replay the Prologue on Easy (or normal or whatever...). I can't see any harm in it. Some people may find very difficult to get used to a game and need some time to learn. It doesn't mean that you are an idiot (as you said) or a dumb.
This community is full of hardcore gamers as much as normal gamers.

Enjoy your playing.

Here's my take on both Witcher games; they take effort learn. The devs don't hold your hand. You have to read the journal, period. They aren't as intuitive as other games. If you take the time, they reward more than most games do. A wicked battle can become easy, but only if you've prepared correctly. Most games just let you squeak by because they rely on twitch combat alone. In TW2, you absolutely have to consider alchemy and gear if you play on hard.

Well, let's summarize.

We have here a player who:

1} Doesn't want to read the manual.
2} Doesn't want to learn to play the game.
3} Doesn't want to even try.
4} Bashes CDPR because they didn't do things HIS way.
5} Doesn't really like mods or god modes.
6} Doesn't like easy mode which at least 95% of all people will agree that it is indeed easy.
7} Bought a hardcore game and wants it to play like a casual game just because...
8} Bought a game about a fighter and doesn't want to do combat.
9} Accepts that his playing ability is way below standards even for easy but stills blames CDPR for it.

Well, many people have tried to help above but you've got to understand. You cannot play sub-par a game advertised as hard and blame the developers for it. God modes and other mods are for exactly that reason. From your posts until now it's pretty obvious that the only thing that can help you enjoy the game as you enjoy games like you wrote in your OP is a god mode. Try a god mode and just watch the story. Or watch a movie which fits better in your mentality as I understand it.

And the most important thing that you can do if you like the witcher but do not like to learn anything about playing the game is actually go buy and read the BOOKS! Your OP indicates that you are not a gamer. You play casually to watch a story. You should be more into movies and books and less into gaming IMHO.

I'm not being aggressive even if the written text above may indicate otherwise. If I could talk to you in person you would understand my tone. I'm not trying to mock you here. I'm trying to help.

Just my two cents.

Probably because I'm getting on a bit (!) I find the game difficulty a bit inconsistent. It's common to a lot of games though. On the first run through there is just no way to anticipate which fights are going to be hard and it is therefore impossible to prepare properly. In this game the difference between most ordinary fights and Boss fights is too great IMHO. And the difference between Normal and Easy is also too large.

Everything is much simpler the second time around but half the enjoyment has gone because as by then you know the story and whats coming next.

Don't get me wrong, this is an exceptional game and I am loving every moment of it but there are parts (The Kayran etc) where it is almost impossible to win the fight without recourse to searching the net to learn the trick required because insufficient clues are given within the game. I don't mind dying frequently during a game, in fact it makes the game fun, but to get completely stuck by what appears to be an impossible Boss fight leads to frustration and disappointment. (I play on Normal but drop back to Easy after say 5 tries at a fight.)

I therefore have some sympathy with the OP's frustration. He simply has not yet learnt the tricks needed to survive and too be honest the games has not instructed him properly. So even on Easy it is very difficult, at the first play through, to get this story driven game to flow in a satisfactory way. This IS an issue which CDPR are addressing in v2.0 with a full tutorial.

6: He didn't say he didn't like the easy mode, just that it doesn't feel like easy..? He chose easy and expected the game to be easy, which it is. I think he's playing v1.0 and therefore easy is not easy?
7: Where on the box does it say "this is a hardcore game, noobs stay away!" ..? You cannot expect every buyer of games to look them up on the internet before buying it.. Many people read the backside and either buys a game or doesn't.
8: He didn't say he didn't want to do combat, just that he doesn't like dying 80 times?
9: He expected easy to be easy, like in most other games... I really think he's playing v1.0 and THAT's his real problem... Many people blamed CDPR for easy not being easy, and therefore they corrected it in the patches...

OP, patch up your game to v1.35 and give it another go ... And read the manual, if not all of it then just the part of how combat+magic works.. Not all games are "click-click-click" - "monster dead", you have to roll and dodge and block, and time your attacks + use your magic signs... Get a rythm going, and you will prevail soon enough and find TW2 really fun to play!

Ok

You use left mouse button to punch stuff and right mouse button to punch stuff. I can't rememeber which did the strong attack or fast attack but strong attack makes your look like it's on flames. Usually you use srong attack for big enemies and fast attack for small enemies.

You use wasd (the buttons w, a, s and d not the letter combination wasd) to move if it's too hard to use you can remap the buttons to up, left, down and right buttons.

Remapping can be done in options (which can be found in the launcher) in the input settings.

Turn the QTE off from the main menu's options.

It is also smart to get that skill that increaces your barrellrolling distance (you roll by using space and one of the movement buttons)

How to beat bosses (SPOILERS)

act 1 boss is the toughest. You need to trap it's tentacles using the trap spell (cant remember the name, Yarden?). After you have trapped a tentacle you chop it off by using mouse button 1 or 2 (doesn't really matter which one you use). You trap a tentacle by casting the trap spell and lure the boss to hit the spell with a tentacle if possible try to roll away before the tentacle hits you.

After that I hope you know what to do because I'm too lazy to type it.

act 2 boss you puch it with strong attacks

act 3 boss you just punch (although strong attack works faster)

If you still have trouble with combat I recommend knitting instead of witcher 2.

So instead of learning how the combat works, you spend hours and hours on reloading the game? When you could have just tried to grasp how the combat works and save yourself a lot of grief. It seems some people don't learn from their mistakes. And a advice to make the game very easy, is to put most skill points into Quen, and keep it up as much as you can. Then you can just hack and slash your way through the game.
