I suspect Cyberpunk 2077 won't go into great detail with regard to hit/armor locations, tho I'd be overjoyed if they did.

Same.

I suspect you'll just have an over-all armor rating. In fact I'd be a bit surprised if they actually differentiated between "hard" and "soft" armors.

I'd be VERY pleasantly surprised if they differentiated between hard and soft armor, and how attacks to said armor effect it.

"Soft" armors on the other hand probably require replacement rather then repair. Say your Kevlar vest has taken a couple hits - the Kevlar weave has broken/damaged fibers and any backing material (to diffuse the impact) has also been damaged. You're going to what? Reweave the vest with new fibers?

I like the idea of soft inserts that you can swap in and out of sleeves, or, if we want to get high-tech with it, I can imagine a host of nanomachines that live suspended in a gel-like solution, that you'd slather on to holes in your soft armor. The gel solution would have fibers suspended in it, and, given enough time, the nanomachines would knit your armor back together.

Better example to makeshift armors would be this:

By being able to repair armors using parts of other armors (it would be easy if armors made of smaller pieces of meshes) you can create armors like this.. If you shot your enemy in the chest with a shotgun, that part of his/her armor may be irreparably damaged, but the other pieces will be intact.. You should be able to salvage these pieces to repair your own gear.. Also, everybody can have unique armors this way.. It would work well especially for nomads.. (since some of them attach anything they can find onto their armors)

There are actually many more examples of makeshift, self repaired armors in Fallout, like the entire collection of raider armors:

Repair it with whatever you can find would work really well for Cyberpunk. Especially for nomads.

We'll..see. Beth drops the ball a lot, so, yeah. Cautiously optimstic.

IN a few weeks. I've preordered.

Best thing is that all these games will do stuff CDPR will learn from.

I just really like the idea of taking a weapon, even if it is already modified, and tweeking it ourselves. I'm not out to turn an arms avenger into a sniper rifle, but I would like to be able to switch out grips, barrel lengths, compensators, magazine sizes and sights, along with other stuff. And I really like how Fallout 4 are approaching it.

Most of all I want to play a techie, because without techies everyone would be stuck with polymer one shots from vending machines and they would have to get around one the bus.

Unfortunately weapons design/manufacture it's near as easy as Fallout 4 makes it out to be.
BUT!
In this case I'd be more then willing to suspend reality for the sake of gameplay.

Wut? That's like saying without plumbers we'd all be pooping in the woods. Techs are mechanics more than innovators or creators. Mechanics that sometimes you need and sometimes you don't. Especially if you can pick up the basic skills yourself.

I'm not sure Tech is Team-essential. Revoltingly OP if played smartly, but not essential. NEtrunners...nearly essential. Solo, essential. Fixer...

actually, you know what?

I don't think any Role is essential. Solo is the closest, but THAT'S mostly because the OP nature of Combat Sense means you need to counter even the chance of enemy Solos.

And for that matter, an actual Solo, a professional mercenary for hire, ought to be relatively rare. I think.

Anyway, I'm off topic. I need a good banning.

Rather depends on the cultural/social conditions. Lots of former military around with no jobs available? Oh yeah, you'll have mercs for hire.

Oh absolutely. But you know how dangerous CPunk is and how the Solo is supposed to exemplify the independent combat operative? I always thought -those- guys, beyond SA 2 or so, were pretty rare. Given how lethal screw ups are. And how it's safer in an army or corp army or security or whatever, as opposed to being a pro.

I've often wished there was a separate "Guard/Soldier" option for NPCs who aren't pure combat pros. Instead, I just use low level of CS and then medtech or authority or fixer or whatever.

But I favour dropping exclusive Roles.

All edgerunners are 'relatively' rare. All the player characters are ones that stand out from the crowd and are the 1%.

And yeah, without plumbers you'd still be pooping in a shed in the garden.

Wait, you're Canadian, you do that anyway, right?

Yeah, I've used "baby" Solo's for run-of-the-mill Guards etc.

If it's intended to be a STRICTLY singe-player game, not team (presumably NPCs) based there's really no way you can have Roles.
But by the same tolken I don't want to see Cyberpunk Elder Scrolls.
