I loooove mag duct or wireless smartguns. Those damn wires are just too fragile and need to be plugged in before use. Hate-hate-hate that.

Electric triggers are also verrrry sweet for high-precision shooting, apparently.

For the vast majority, I too would expect firearms to remain mostly, if not purely, mechanical - gas operated - and 'simple'. But I think that there will be 'some' purely electronicly operated firearms produced. Probably working on a principal similar to the 'Metal Storm' weapon systems. Now these would obviously have a much, much higher RoF than standard weaponry, but that can be balanced against other factors, like a vulnerability to being hacked.

How does that sit with people?

Yes, please. Let's do some real-time hacking, like in Bioshock, but with more complexity. That would be awesome.

Well, maybe not like in Bioshock... I don't know, but it didn't seem that fun or realistic to hack stuff.. It mostly feel like... you know, an empty practice... (Something you can do without.. Which they dropped in Bioshock Infinite, for same reason..)

EVE online is about to go live with a new hacking system. It's basically join-the-dots.
Deus Ex hacking mechanic... Join-the-dots.
I just had a look at Bioshocks mechanic... Join-the-dots.

Let's think of something origional.

New thread needed.

...meh?

I mean, it all falls under the scope of Netrunning, neh? We've already got a couple of threads going for that.

Now, I am not totally sold on the this particular take on weapon customisation, but what are your opinions?
I can see some call for 'in the field customisation, like adding silencers, swapping sights and adjusting stocks. Though I know many things require specific tools and time, like installing underslung weapons and swapping trigger assemblies.

As far as an upgrade interface goes, I quite like this one:

I would much rather 'parts' of weapons and armour become damaged over time and have that damage be repaired with replacement parts. Maintainance of weapons should afect the reliability of the wepon. If you don't keep a gun clean, (by using a gun cleeaning kit to perform a maintainance option back at base,) your weapon will take more damage faster and it will jam more. I would also like to see the possibility for jammed weapons to have a catastrophic failure. Cheap ammo, and poor weapon care should factor into the likelyhood of your gun exploding in your face.

Getting kind of crazy with that stuff... never seen it implemented well in a game that also allows driving and vechile customization, which I have to admit is more important to me.. But if they can pull it all off, awesome...

Boundaries definitely need to be pushed as far as they can go.

That warface thing looked stupid in my opinion. At least make some animation for it. I'd prefer to do it in inventory rather than scrolling through all options.

I agree. The only part I did like was the ability to customise your kit mid fight.

I plan on playing a techie - if I can't tinker and enhance and customise, I'll be a bit disapointed :p

I want to be able to construct 'disguised' weapons:

If I am going to play a Corp, I want to get my automatic weaponry around in style.

I also want weaponry that can be nroken down and transported easily and quickly:

Anyone else got any suggestions for disguised weaponry?

Well, the obvious would be pop-up guns in cyberlimbs. Beyond that, I could see a single-shot weapon (like a shotgun or some high-caliber round) as a cane. Reload time should be terrible, of course. I can see using it at point-blank, then immediately using it as a melee weapon for anyone else who wants a piece. =D

I like the idea of lots of fancy and crazy customizations, but I don't want it at the expense of other game elements. I feel Saint's Row 3 really dropped the ball on gameplay in favor of customizations. The gameplay in SR3 was fun, but it can't even be called action gameplay because it was so weak in meaningful action elements. So yeah, customizations are cool, but I really just want awesome gameplay with those customizations too, otherwise you're just a poser with flashy gear :/

^ This. ONE OF THE THINGS I didn't like about SR 2 was that although you could customize like mad for your guy, you still looked like an idiot in a fight and it played like a clumsy TPS shooter. So enhance like mad, but make it look good and feel right.

Also, Thai Kick Boxing level 8, a few "soft" enhancements and you are a damn weapon. One that can walk through metal detectors, too.

Obviously, game quality comes first, but I really would love a good combination of the two.

Style over substance should apply to players, not game quality.

Yeah, well put.

If only more developers - and buyers- paid attention to that.

To be fair a lot of the times they are pushed by their publishers and sometimes their best intentions are forced to take a back seat to just finish the product, market it and ship it according to the time schedule.

I hope this doesn't happen here, because I would prefer to wait and get a truly spectacular game that I can play ad-infinitum and always enjoy because it fulfilled the developers every wish and hence mine.

As such having customized weapons will surely be implemented here as it has been in numerous other games adn indeed most if not all rpg's these days have some kind of customizing facet to their weapons. I'm sure it will be amazing for cyberpunk 2077 as well.
