Yup, same problem here. Get to the point where it says it is gonna check my registration, and hit the button to continue. Not even a pause just pops up not registered. The only option i have is to hit finish and exit the installer

Greetings fellows, Which extract method did was used with TWEE_Updater.exe?I've been having the same issue when it begins to modify files. The process will stay at 90 megs of ram and 25% load.XP X64 Pro SP2 here. Followed the .NET framework instructions at the beginning of this thread, still no go. Triedinstalling in safe mode with networking, no go. It's just a no go. I was gonna try it since I was bored and before theEnhanced Edition makes it in the mail tomorrow. But, I guess I'll just wait. I let the modification go all night while I slept. This is pretty frustrating. Guess I'm glad I bought it so I don't have to wait for a fix to the install process.-William

I've played The Witcher and loved it for a few months now, but the Enhanced Edition is not working. I have patches 1.2, 1.3 and correctly installed 1.4 both files, but when I run the game it goes to black screen and then gives me the windows error that the program has caused some error and must now close and asks me if I want to report the error to Microsoft. I have re-installed the entire game twice and downloaded the 1.4 patch from 2 different sources including The Witcher website and GamersHell.com. Please help with this error. Anyone know what to do?

I've come across the same problem of the modifying game files segment not doing anything. I've waited at most 8hrs overnight, because anything close to that length of time would be completely absurd for a valid install. I really want to play this game, and when I heard the announcement for the free EE, I decided to stop playing and wait for this update to enjoy the game to its fullest. Well now I can't get it to work, and I have uninstalled/reinstalled about 4 times now. If anyone comes up with a solution I would love to know, but as for now I guess its attempt #5. :wall:

Err... nope. I'm running XP Pro 32-bit and having the same problem. And I've tried numerous installs now under both SP2 and SP3. What a ridiculous pain this is turning out to be. I bought the game back in January and then held off on playing it when I heard the EE would be coming out before the year's end. Now I waited all this time and can't even get the bloody thing to install. It'd be really nice if we could get this problem recognised so that some knowledgeable people might start thinking it through, but so far we seem to be an ignored minority...Disgruntled,RoA

Howdy again everybody, Since the last post, I didn't even bother using the universal extractor and I set all program compatibility options for each TWEE executable to windows 95 then ran TWEE_Updater.exe and it took 30 minutes. Then I fixed the EAX problem and am playing the Witcher EE now.-William

I could not get the new 1.4 patch to work on my computer. I went to regedit and erased my Witcher key totally(CDProjekt) in both current user and local machine. After that it worked perfect except it won't let me use EAX and that makes me mad. Also the patch 1.4 eats up another 10fps in performance. I was sick of the trouble so I reinstalled Witcher with patch 1.3. I want my EAX and better performace. I see no purpose in using EE 1.4.

Hello Lepermessiah, Check the integrity of the download by checking the MD5 digest hashes provided here: http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/1.4_patch which was posted at the beginning of the thread. If the hashes don't match then download again from the same or different source. If the hashes do match, then you may have some I/O corruption with your hardware.-William
I see no purpose in using EE 1.4.
At this very stage I must agree with you.
EE is VASTLY better then the old Witcher, the improvements are huge, really is a much better game your loss.
The term VASTLY has a really high degree of subjectivity. Surfing the forum makes you realize that bugs in the EE are popping out every minute.A few are major and make the game next to unplayable for many people.I was having a great experience with The Witcher 1.3. The EE has made me stop playing for good, at least until CDPR recognizes the problems and come out with a fix. Many threads have been opened regarding show-stopping bugs introduced by the EE. The game is not working properly for quite a crowd.BTW Slython, a fix for the EAX bug can be found here: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=16688.0It seems to be working for many users experiencing the bug, myself included.

To those of you who've been having the same problem as me (TWEE installer hanging for hours on end at the 'modifying game files' message), I may have discovered a solution!! --I did two things differently, this time around. (1) I made sure that my re-installed .Net Framework had only been updated to 3.0, and NOT to 3.0 SP1. (To fix this, I uninstalled both 3.0 SP1 and 3.0 itself, and then re-installed 3.0 using the full Microsoft .Net Framework 3.0 Redistributable package --> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=10cc340b-f857-4a14-83f5-25634c3bf043&DisplayLang=en(2) I did not allow the base TWEE installer (TWEE_Update.exe) to install the extra add-on adventures (Price_of_Neutrality and Side_Effects), but instead decided to wait and manually install them afterwards, if all went well. This time around, after the fresh .Net Framework 3.0 installation, the TWEE installation actually went ahead without a hitch. More specifically, instead of coming to the "modifying game files" message and then having my hard-drive activity CEASE, the hard drive was instead going crazy with activity the entire time through the process (which was a sure sign that I'd accomplished something, at least!). After about 35 minutes, it gave me the thumbs-up on a successful TWEE installation!!!!I did have some issues getting the game started -- had to lower my sound hardware acceleration (as I have a Creative Audigy card), but I did get the game up and running eventually, and it's looking great so far! I also ran both the Price_of_Neutrality and Side_Effects installers manually, without a hitch. As far as I can tell, my problem's solved!I do hope these tips work out for some of the rest of you who've been having this trouble. Post here and let me know! All the best,RoA

Hello RandomOfAmber, I'm going to try your method and just install up to .NET 3.0 and not SP1. Can you try my method by way of setting all compatibility to windows 95 then running the install. I'll report back after I've tried your way. By the way, I installed all of the updates at once. Time to save my game and give it a shot.-William

RandomOfAmber: you rock.i dont think the net thing was it. all i did was get rid of the missions, put the patch files to compatability mode and ran it. took like 5 minutes to apply all of it. installed the extra mission separately. :D now lets see if it runs.cheers!!
