I've been out of touch for a while. Has anyone produced a fix for the 'feature:censored/critical error' problem I have with every hoop I've tried to jump through yet?
No, but reinstalling the August 2008 distribution of DirectX and upgrading the Nvidia driver from 177 to 178 seemed to work. Thanks!LordLethris said:Im guessing you have already changed the game options to no subtitles, and moved the vocal sound slider across?
I didn't bother with any of the above generic stuff. If you have the same problem I had, try this:This is a work-in-progress FAQ: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=17503.0 , do check it often as new tips are being addedQ: Problem With EAX ( game is crashing and MSS32.DLL is mentioned )A1: NEWER FIX: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mzjtojmmwln / http://rapidshare.com/files/148936599/TheWitcher1.4EE_EAX_fix_TRY3.zip.htmlQuoteBackup your files:1. The Witcher\System\mss32.dll2. The Witcher\System\binkw32.dll3. The Witcher\System\Miles\*Then replace them with these files ( mss32.dll version 7.0.23.0, binkw32.dll version 1.8.23.0 and the associated Miles folder)Apparently patch 1.4 has updated Miles Sound System libraries, but somehow MSS32.DLL was not updated hence the instability, and BINKW32.DLL is updated too since the game will freeze if only the newer MSS32.DLL is used. After this you can get SOUND ACCELERATION back on maximum setting, you can also enable EAX in game. This worked for me.LordLethris said:Try this in this order
- backup yer saved games (found in your documents area)
- uninstall the game.
- Delete the games directory
- reboot
- Install ALL the Windows XP updates. This can be done by going to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=40747, hit "start now" if you need to, then, once the new MS updater is installed, select "custom", select everything found and hit install. (please note, TW:EE does state that it needs .NET 1.1 and above to work)
- repeat Windows XP updates, intill there is nothing left in XP to patch. Note - some XP patches/updates, have MORE patches/updates, so you'll be doing many reboots and installs at this stage
- Install the latest graphic drivers for your card
- install the latest sound drivers. for XF-i users running Vista I suggest also installing alchemy As "The Witcher" is one of the listed games needing it
,
- install the latest DirectX
- reboot
- DISABLE ANY SECURITY SOFTWARE, I.E. VIRUS CHECKER
- install the game
- install the latest TAGES from here (you may find the first time you install it actually removes the drivers so you'll have to install it again)
- reboot
- register the game (you have to do this every time you install the game, I dont know why, but you do)
- Run the game to see if it works
- DISABLE ANY SECURITY SOFTWARE, I.E. VIRUS CHECKER
- install TWEE patch.
- install your language Pack.
Thanks! But it didn't worked... I used CCleaner and RegScrubXP ('couse regcure didn't run under 64-bit systems) and it gave me about 70 Mb, but that gig is still far away from me...Do you (or anyone else) have an idea what to do?mardana said:G-offspring use a regcure program (or equivalent) and get back that gig or more.
all the fixes are in the FAQwhat of those methods did you try?MegaBiteMe said:This is sad...truly sad. A promising update to such a good game and there's a fix-it forum >60 pages to install it?
As stated, all that could possibly apply. Including: run in admin mode/safe mode w/net, every different d/l i could find, running from desktop and witcher dir. , updating .net 3.0 nothing workingLicaonKter said:all the fixes are in the FAQwhat of those methods did you try?LicaonKter said:This is sad...truly sad. Thanks m8.mardana said:If you want to shag shani check in the game talk section of the forum ACT II
This is strange, though. Sometimes different sound streams (voice dialog, or background effect) seem to fade in and out. I have had dialogue go quiet on me in the middle of conversations. Or other times, the "open item" sound disappears (from trunks, herbs, etc.). Still other times the background bird noises get quiet and fade out. This happens irregularly, and stopping and restarting the game helps sometimes. This never happened when I completed the game before the EE update either.Any thoughts?Liam said:No, but reinstalling the August 2008 distribution of DirectX and upgrading the Nvidia driver from 177 to 178 seemed to work. do try the install tricks in the FAQ anywaychodetaculous said:I can't patch the game to the EE. I have the EE patch, my language file, and the two bonus packs. I install them and get an error message saying the localized.key doesn't match. The FAQ says NOTHING about this. What am I supposed to do?
ext2, yepMrSatchmoo said:Finaly got it installed! The problem seemed to be, that I had the game installed on my ext2-partition (for Ubuntu). After installing the game on NTFS the "cutscenes00.bif"-error did not occur anymore and TWEE works just fine. ;DThanks all and have fun!!
