Smart to hide the tech forum this good, this way it wont turn anyone away from the game. ;DInitially got the "you need to register your game at this computer" thing even though I already had and it showed as registered on theese very forums. Annoying. Only thing that kept me at it was the fact that original game was the best cRPG I've played since the original Fallouts, despite weird dialogue here and there. Then I tried starting up the game once (Had uninstalled it since completing it) and that seemed to work. It is probably completely irrelevant, maybe the register servers just need some time to chug the data. But I thought it might be worth a shot for anyone in the same position, thus this post.Currently installing the patch and... wtf? Up to two hours?! Jeebus.

i have installed the witcher (non EE) and it works. when i try to install the EE i am able to register the game (done that already 4 times) but it does not recognize my password. I am using Vista Ultimate x64. What is this crap? The EE torrent is easier. Will there ever be a simple solution to this problem, dear devs?

I like all of you have any many dramas trying to install the EE edition of The Witcher and continually come across the problem of a catostrophic error and something about a licence key contained within one of the cab files. I posted a question about this back in September & obviously there has still been no fix to the problem. Why don't one of the techo's try to run it on a Vista machine both 32 & 64 bit & see if they get the error we are all getting & see if there is not some way around it. Or are we all better to go out & spend another $100 on the retail version off the shelf in the game shops. I didn't think it would bring so much pain just to install a game onto my machine considering the download is close to 1gb as well. Is there a newer upgraded version since September which I need to download which will actually work on my Vista 32bit computer.

this thread already has 68 pages but i guess the devs just do not care. Even with this problems they managed to sell 1 million copies so why should they.Maybe they think that we get the EE for free so we should just shut up.PS: This is written in angry-mode.

I have registered the game, I have logged in. It tells me that my current language is not installed on the system. So I goto download the english file from the site & it tells me that I have to install the patch first? Anyone know if I am doing something wrong? I am running the 64bit version of Vista.

In my case I had to right click on the language pack, go to the name field and add .exe to the end of the name... actually I had to do that for the 2 episodes and the main executable for the patch as well. Once you add .exe to the all 4(if needed), then launch the main upgrade executable.

Much as I hate to say this: you may have to reformat and start from scratch. Hopefully someone here has a better/easier solution, but I posted to give a bro a bump.BTW: I have a pretty fast rig and the patch/upgrade took a long time to install... somewhere around 40 minutes.[mod]merged threads[/mod]

if the patch froze and you killed it you need to uninstall the game ( do not delete your save games, do a BACKUP, they're in My Documents/The Witcher )install the game, nad then patch it directly to 1.4 ( no need to patch it to 1.1/1.2/1.3 as the patch 1.4 already has those fixes )

the Enhanced Edition FAQ says that you need to have the patch + languages + adventures ( if you want them ) in the same folder with their original NAMESalso see the tech FAQ: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=17503.0

OK so I finally got tired of f**king with it, went to wal-mart and shelled out $40 for the package. After 2 install runs, I finally resolved the issue I STILL had with mss32.dll crapping out. It seems my SB Audigy SE does not support this version of EAX, so once disabled it's working just great. I confess to a bit of resentment having to go buy the update, but since I got the original in a bundle with my video card, I don't mind too much splitting the cost. It was worth it to me to stop fussing with trying to fix such obviously lousy coded/packaged update and just get on with playing the game.

There is no error log :(I searched through all of The Witcher's files and there isnt a log...is there any other way to find out what went wrong? =([[edit:I reinstalled the game clean again, and installed the patch again (this time without unpacking)but i only installed the english language pack and nothing else.It worked and ive only encountered one crash so far. nothing major. My last question here is - if i attempt to install the patch with the Italian Language Pack, as well as the two adventures, do you think itll break?]]

to patch you need:- TWEE_patch.exe- your language pack for the language the original game is installed in-(optional, as you can install them later) any other languages, for voice overs, subtitles are included in the main patch-(optional, as you can install them later)the adventures, as Price Of Neutrality has voice overs now, but only with a new game, and Side Effects in newyou need all these files to be in the same folder, with their original namesrun TWEE_patch.exe(read the FAQ: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=17503.0 and check the files before installing )

Upgrade and installation of the Enhanced version update fails with this error. "NotCensored" See screen shot of this error here. http://www.rpggamerpro.com/images/Witcher_Enhanced_Install_Er.gifIf anyone can assist me in solving this, I would appreciate it. My feeling is there is no Enhanced version upgrade for the european un-censored version. Thanks

It seems like there's a lot of different problems running this game, but I can't find an answer to this one. I get the message about 'wait two hours for patch' bla bla bla. But the program comes up as 'not responding' and obviously isn't doing anything. Then, when I shut it down, it tells me that the patch it has wrecked my install of the game and I have to start all over again. Why Is This Happening? Usually I don't get frustrated until actually playing the game in question, but I've now invested four days into trying to install this one and exactly 0 playing it. Anyone got an answer?

Are you running the patch in Win 95 compatibility mode? I seem to recall segmentor and a few others had that same problem. We had some diagnostic software running in the background at the time and it showed the patch was stuck in an infinite loop on a certain file. I can't remember the specifics, but I might be able to find out more when I get home tonight.Anyway, before running the patch, right click on the executable file and select Properties > Compatibility. Tick the box marked 'run this program in compatibility mode for:' and select Windows 95. Hit ok, then try running the patch again. The reason this process subsequently breaks your game is because it does successfully start the update, which modifies at least some of the game files. When the patching process is aborted, only some of the files have been updated to the new version, which effectively corrupts portions of the whole installation. I have about 40GB worth of diagnostic data on my HDD at home that told me the various how's and what's of this :D SuperCollider: If you decide to try the Win95 compatibility thing (and I can understand your reluctance, given that you have to reinstall the game each time), good luck and let us know how you go :)
