Tried reading the FAQ:Keep getting the "unable to connect to remote server" errorHave Tried:Cannot re-register via in launcher at the beginning of the game (option is greyed out)Have Uninstalled (dispite its incredible risks & the silliness of this being required) both anti-virus & firewall programs as well as Demontools.Extracted the files using the /extract_all system commandRe-installed the witcher from scratch (removed everything including registry keys before re-installing)N.B. restarted pc after every chance as per standard practise.Its worth noting that I have once been able to get beyond this point to be given a "language pack in folder not same as installation" error, which is very odd as i only play in english & thats the one i have in the folder (downloaded from the offical polish site that is linked from this one), but will cross this bridge later.

hi folks,i have a problem installing patch 1.4 (like some others as well). however, the problem i have seems some kind of unique and i found nothing by searching here in the forum.i start the update with the TWEE_Upgrade.exe file and it takes some time. after selecting the language and agreeing to the license i have to enter my registration data. the progress bar moves for about 15 % and then stops and the error message:"The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive."any hints, what this could be? my internet connection is working, firewall (vista) turned off.i am running under vista business 32bit. athlon x2 4800+, 2gb ram, nvidia 8800 gts.cheers and many thanks in advance for your help!

When you install patch and lang pack they must both be in same folder together to work. As for authentication login during patch process--try logging into witcher site, registration not forum, prior to starting patch. Also, if you tried patching and it was unsuccesful then you have to uninstall witcher game and reinstall game again then patch and lang pack. Beware--once past login portion of patch process it takes a while and acts as if nothing is going on but, it is doing its' thing. It's best not to mess with computer during process so, make sure no shutdown or screensaver functions after certain time of inactivity are enabled. Also turn off (not uninstall) antivirus, etc. programs and any USER processes in task manager other than explorer.exe and taskmngr.exe The patch process should give you an option for choosing the languages you want. Make sure to uncheck all except the English one or whatever ones you have downloaded the lang pack for--this automatically installs the lang_pack file so you don't need to run it after the patch file. hi,@mardana:the patch and the language pack are in the same folder. i tried as well to be logged in to the registration side before i started the update, didn't work as well. antivirus and unnecessary background tasks are stopped, too. only thing which i did not try yet was a complete re-installation of the game. however, i will be away now for several days but i will try this suggestion next week.@Licaon_Kter:tried some of you suggestions in the FAQ, but didn't help either.

Doesnt help, still get the unable to connect error. Tbh im getting peeved by the fact that 98% of all other developers/etc can make patches, even those that require authentication, work without hardly any fuss. But when it comes to The Witcher (which is far better than the majority of those 98% of games) they just can seem to be able to do it.

Run Windows with an Administrator account. Lower level accounts cannot install.Also, check the FAQ thread.

I tried doing this already but it has been three hours and it is still not installed. How long does it take to install Microsoft NET Framework 3.0 anyway? What exactly is it for also? Probably nothing I need other to play this game. Starting to wonder if this massive hassle to play the enhanced version is even worth it. I already played this game once, how much better can it be?

did you download the .NET distributable from the Microsoft site, install it, and it did not finish in 3 hours??

Hey there, the guide on the first page has provided me with some answers, but I find myself still receiving this error message for Windows XP:SetupNew\setup.cpp (138)PAPPVENDORGUID:$@Windows XP Service Pack 3 (2600) Non IE/Netscape 11.0I've followed the guidelines on the list but still can't figure this out. i've said ATTACH, not copy/paste and do read the FAQ, like i said before the SOUND related fixes will fix it for youi always link the FAQ, but nobody reads it, yet they've "tried all fixes" :wall:
