I'm using latest Zonealarm and shutting that down completely (leaving the XP firewall up to save my ass... - Service Pack 3) allowed to continue installation process. Yes you have to abandon your firewall for a while and trust to M$ solution.

If you run Zonealarm or similiar firewalls, you can change it to game mode for a while to get through the registration process. It worked for me.I also think, it can have to do with Anti-virus software, so you should close down this, too.

I tried to run the Zonealarm in game mode - but that was no joy. I had to bring it down to make it work...

Hi guys, for fun i creat two screens. First screen presents game on full details with high lighting and second presents game on full details with low lighting. For me game with low lighting looks better than high.

Catch 22 Can't install the patchWhen I try to install the (TWEE_upgrade.exe) and it tells me it can't find the language files, so I try to install the USA (English_language_pack.exe) it tells me I must install the TWEE 1.4 patch first, Huh?Witcher 1.0 North American version (English install)TWEE_Upgrade.exeTWEE_English_language_pack.exeI have tried the following:1. Reinstalled the Witcher Version 1.0, english runs fine - TWEE upgade fails as above2. Redownload the English language pack and tried to install - same problem!

I just wanted to thank everyone. Without the help of all of you I would not be enjoying my game as much. Thanks for all of your hard work.

Quote from: Lobo(AW) on September 20, 2008, 10:45:43 pmThough I'm in the US, I have the uncensored version of The Witcher. Where can I find a 1.4 Enhanced Edition patch that will not result in a "Catastrophic Error" response - I downloaded the 1.4 patch from FilePlanet where it was much faster to get (less than 40 minutes versus over 24 hours and a two dropped connections). And for the language pack, which one should I use?Having started out with a complaint, I would like to say this providing of the Enhanced Edition and all the bells and whistles that you have for free to owners of The Witcher is simply an outstanding gesture towards your fans. I thank you for your efforts and your sleepless nights responding to the flood of downloading. This is an approach to marketing and community building that other game makers would do well to emulate as it encourages loyalty. I will be looking to see what other games come from you folks. And when does The Witcher 2 appear? ::) Just asking...After posting the above message, here's my reply to myself.Well, I've downloaded the patch from several sites, including 4players.de (apologies to German players for eating up your bandwidth! Grin) Same problem occurs - all files placed in The Witcher game folder, log-in and password accepted, English selected, and, after the "Agreed" screens, the update begins and then suddenly terminates - "Feature: NotCensored, File: , Error: Catastrophic Failure" and it stops. So I'm guessing the problem is that the current patch is the censored US-version. The uncensored, European version will be released later?Again, my thanks for your work.(Moved this over from the other section).

An interesting note for everyone with problems getting the Enhanced Edition running on WinXP:After downloading the patch files with correct MD5 and installing them, the game just crashed at launching.Solution was to deactivate EAX via dxdiag. Turned sound acceleration from maximum to standard and now the game's running.Might prevent somebody from downloading and reinstalling several times, just like I did. ;)

I don't even have EAX, but I have the issue that has been mentioned by some.Patch was installed fine (I dl'd it from softpedia) along with the english language pack, patch seemed to install fine - it prompted me to restart when done, I did, now the game recognizes the patch as being installed and everything, but I can't launch it - just get a general windows error saying the program has encountered and error and needs to shut down every time I start it. Running a radeon 4870 with the latest drives and an asus p5q pro with onboard sound (realtek HD sound).OK - DISREGARD - Figured it out. mIssed the sound issue thread before. I don't know why this technique worked, but i had to go into my bios, disable realtek HD, then boot up the game, disable sound, quit the game, go back to my bios, enable realtek hd audio, load up the game again, and then uncheck disable audio.now it works.

The same thing happened to me. This is infuriating. After taking forever to download the files, it won't even let me update. What' going on?

Put both files in the same folder, then run TWEE_upgrade.exe

If you get the "catastrophic error" message, use the universal unpacker to unpack the patcher (1.4) into the same folder as other files (languages, extras, ...) and the install will start without problem. There is something wrong with installer or its looking for some component which few of us use and the patching wont start. It worked for me and it was the only way I was able to patch the original game.

If you're using Internet Explorer and trying to download huge files...e.g. The Witcher - Enhanced Edition, you owe to yourself to install the companion program, IE7 Pro. I've been using this for over a year now and it's a really sweet add-on for Internet Explorer users. It comes with a built-in MiniDM (Mini Download Manager). With MiniDM, you can Pause, Resume, or pick up where you got logged off without any problems if your connection got interrupted. (Of course, the source site has to support Resume!)I've read through the threads here where many people are having problems getting the full version of TWEE and hope this will help. If not with the present efforts, it should save a lot of time in the future for further huge file downloads.Grab the download for IE7 Pro here:http://www.ie7pro.com/I made a separate post above for those using Internet Explorer and having the download fail. I've had excellent success using IE 7 along with IE7 Pro as mentioned in the post.[MOD]use the EDIT button. don't start a new thread for a known solution[/MOD]

I get the exact same thing except mine says 'Feature: Censored' Are there multiple versions of the patch for censored/uncensored versions of the game?

Same problem here. I'm looking for other download sites. I used filefront. Does anyone know if it is the language pack or the 1.4 patch?

I also downloaded mine from filefront, but I just downloaded it again from fileplanet and its installing now. So apparentley there are two versions of the patch. If you have the uncensored version of the game, try downloading the patch from filefront.
