Thank you for this explanation, KNGRSM. This explains why, for example, the custom swamp lighting disappears on several occasions.

yeah, if there's a rainy weather conditon in novigrad / velen the game loads a specific env to adapt lighting etc. for the specific weather (darker, foggy etc.) (one of a lot of conditons that change lighting etc.)

that's why with cutscene lighting mod you don't see dark clouds when it storms, like you would with default lighting.

I explained this a few times already over the time, but I do it again. because we still have the same clouds in sky with CSLM but they don't appear as dark as normal, because the CSLM env overrides the default env that would load specific settings for said weather condition. now for one or the other this might be acceptable for a better suited lighting, but other env files change different things, so you have to decide if you accept the "downgrade" (better lighting for missing AO, messed up water, overly bright light sources e.g. fireplaces at night etc.)

TW2- 347 files on Nexus after 4 years.
TW3 - 462 files on Nexus after 3 months despite the gimped toolkit

That should tell them something. Anyway, I got some of your mods installed, thanks for the hard work. You and Essenthy have made this a much prettier game already.

i say it again... all we need is from CDPR some official way of modifying these files. all that hacking around the files will lead to jaw dropping screenshots but the actual playing experience will differ a lot from that jaw dropping screenshot moment.

That is what i had in mind myself. But aslong as it gets rid of that blue fog, making view distance much better than the current one i dont really care. At the end(assuming we get the real deal of modding tools) im sure someone is gonna make this happen anyway, right?

I can't wait for this mod, tho. I guess I'll have to see it for myself to be sure whether or not I'll be okay with sacrificing ambient occlusion, light shafts, and off colored water. Amazing work though, Essenthy.

Hey, really great work with the lighting. Especially the screenshot in front of Novigrad reminds me of how the game looked like a year ago, so it's really close. :)
I hope you can get it running with the fog, it seems very atmospheric. I will try to show this to some people!

Ps: I don't necessarily want to use this thread to address this again, but here it goes: The lighting of the game at release was not made because of some evil other platforms and companies holding their pitchforks in the air (that does not happen. Really, it doesn't) ;).
The view distance is virtually the same, but adding a layer of fog was an artistic choice that was made in the course of last year. Now, you of course don't have to agree with it, but that's simply what it was - an artistic choice. And that mod kit was released especially so people can make the game look different.

Didn't you guys say there was a different particle effect system that could only be run on dx12 systems, the SoD trailer had crazy particle effects. I doubt the modding community will be able to put that in, we're not programmers. :hmm:

Another thing I am worrying right now is that after essenthy removes the blue fog, we may see more pop in effects in the distance, terrain, foliage, grass, everything! I can imagine how frustrating that is because I can see terrain textures and meshes changing constantly while sailing around skellige even with that heavy fog. Skellige is the most beautiful place ever created in the game history imo and this problem kinda makes me wanna cry...

I just vomited inside my mouth.

How do you find time to mod for both W3 and W1?

Yup, anyone who's done some sailing around Skellige has seen the relatively infrequent but awful broken coast textures that look like concrete, mile-long curving indoor car parks stretching out along the shorelines until you get close enough for them to vanish.

I'd go and procure a screenshot, but it's too painful.

You mean this? Oh don't worry about it. Batman lives in there :p and no you can't enter the Batcave cause it disappears as soon as you get close. Only Batman has access to his Batcave.

you'll definitely notice more easily meshes poping in close/medium range since ther's nearly no fog around, so we gonna have to figure out how to increase the lod after releasing this mod, also some area arnt properly shadowed/lit from far away for some reasons, and other wich are much more far away are properly lit/shadowed, it depend from where you look and to what you're looking, but overall it work just fine

ther's also some slight flickering of trees in the far distance , am not sure if its caused by increased shadow/foliage/tree values or its like that by default
