Finished my first playthrough (Huzzah! :) Great game, but was also saddened by the lack of any mention of the romance (in my case with Shani) in the epilogue.By the way, the King made an interesting comment after Geralt tells him he loves Shani. He asked if Geralt was sure.. and mentioned it being ok because Geralt was sterile, and that he loved Adda... Is Shani Geralt's sister or something?Does the King make any similar comments if the relationship is with Triss?

Yes he says the exact same thing about Triss. I wondered about that too. Seemed strange to me, but maybe he was referring to the mutations and how that might affect any children if such things were possible.

I don't think so. Foltest and Geralt aren't such closed friends that the king would ask such an intimate question even if he didn't call a spade a spade.

I can't believe how many people picked Shani over Triss. Shani's a girl next door. Triss is a mysterious, manipulative sex kitten and it's heavily implied that she's brewing something behind your back. Where's your sense of adventure, people?

The true quality of The Witcher as a roleplaying game is how it genuinely involves the player in the decisions of the game. I chose Shani exactly as I would have in real life with my life experiences."Mysterious manipulative sex kittens" are young men's diversions along the path of being an unattached young man. The first and most vital part of any committed (if not monogamous in this case) relationship is trust. Trust is not possible with Triss given what we see of her character in The Witcher.- Cardhu

I wouldn't say Triss specificly brews something behind Geralt's back to oust him but I think in the first instance she follows her own path for personal benefits. She has good relation to wealthy merchants with influence, advised the king. I can't imagine that a woman like her is able to care (even love) for one ordinary person. But I didn't like Shani either. I mean, I don't want to say I can't stand both. Shani is imo too pragmatic and too possessive in regard of an ordinary person.

I wouldn't call geralt an ordinary person. he is a witcher, a mutant. A special person with no ordinary tasks.Triss has also more in common with Geralt then Shani has. Triss will also mention that geralt once had a relationship with an other sorceress (yennefer). She is friends with that other sorceress.I always wondered what happened with yennefer, geralt's true love. Maybe he returns back to her after the last fight, but then again he has amnesia.Triss would fit more with geralt then shani would, because geralt had already a relationship with a sorceress. Next to that Geralt is no common person and Triss does also no common business. Shani is just a common medic. There are also enough references to Geralt and his relationship with sorceresses. For example; a noble townswoman in the new narakort ask geralt if he is only interested in sorceresses and not in other people.

okay… Geralt and an ordinary person was probably the wrong expression ;DTriss moves in higher social societies. Her friends are from the upper, noble and imperial court culture whereas Geralt moves in lower class societies. He cares for beggars and outcasts. Okay, he also deals with knights and has friends there. But he agrees to help a single individual. I can't imagine Triss would do something like unless she can gain a personal advantage from it. But maybe she has a more human side which isn't visible in the game.Yennefer is dead. Both are supposed to be dead, Geralt and Yennefer. But there's is no proof. I don't know the last novel where they disappeared… into an other world where they are still alive or both died. It's not quite sure what has happened to them. Who knows, maybe Geralt meets Yen again if the gamestory continues ;)

There's a rather easy answer for that: I don't trust her, and she gave me no reason why that should be any other way. I was a means to an end to her. Quite frankly, the game offers you two things: one night stands and a relationship. Why should I get into a relationship with manipulative sorceress for who I'm but a chess piece when I can have all the sex and none of the hassle with other ladies? That being said, I despise manipulators like the Lodge. Foltest may be substandard compared to the ideal picture of a good king, but at least he is the King of Temeria. Better him than some witch with shady goals.

Totally agree with that. I also felt that deep down I could not trust Triss. But then life experience has taught me that jealousy is a trait that never goes away and Shani is EXTREMELY jealous and possessive. Been there, done that, got a couple of T-Shirts. Went with Triss first time through (just finished last week) and I'll choose Shani on my next play through. In the end my choice was really a coin toss as I wouldn't have chosen EITHER of the two in real life.

SPOLIERS AHEADI had a couple of thoughts about Shani and Triss.About Shani's view of Triss:Note that, when Shani puts her foot down over Alviin, Shani tells Geralt to "end it" with Triss. If Geralt chooses Triss, Triss says, "That's it then? You love me now?"I submit the following: Shani was Geralt's lover before Triss. Shani has good reason to feel jealous.Regardless of whether Geralt chooses either Triss or Shani, neither woman is as affectionate afterwards as one would expect. Finally, during Triss's conversation at the mirror, it would all make sense if what Triss is admonished to hide from Geralt is that she is genuinely in love with him. Love is leverage for loyalty. The organization of which Triss is a member would feel threatened by any pull on Triss's loyalty other than theirs.

Geralt has been dead and come back with amnesia, forgetting not just any prior relationships with Shani and Triss, but also with Yennifer. Isn't that enough reason to justify some distance and.or skepticism on the part of both Shani and Triss? And that is not even taking into account the fact that Geralt is still a witcher, still pursuing revenge as his primary goal rather than either Shani or Triss, and sleeping with every floozy he can find.Yet somehow Triss and Shani are expected not to be bothered by any of that or to have their own lives, and are expected to trust Geralt fully?Nice double standards....

I've chosen Triss everytime I've played. And I just hate the ending...I was expecting to see Triss run up to Geralt at the end and discuss their future and walk away holding hands, but instead the ending sucks. :( Next time I play I'm going to choose Shani and see if it ends better. I do hope in The Witcher 2:Assassins of Kings you can somehow get back together with whatever woman you choose in the first Witcher.

I think it's too much of a cliche when there is such a happy end. I don't see it a bad or disappointing end but I admit later I missed something :hmmm:Some decision you made in the frist game will have an impact in TW2 but we don't know (yet) what

Well, maybe it's because Triss is no "eternal love" for Geralt actually. In the books, he loved and married another sorceress... and the TW ending seems a bit unfinished, so we have to wait and see how the things going on in the sequel.
...Not to ruin your surprise, but you shouldn't expect to much if you will choose Shani next time.....whatever....

Part of the romance thread in the game seems to be Geralt's realization that witchers can't settle down, so I wouldn't expect the ending to include Geralt and his romantic choice living happily ever after.Although I like Shani the best -- she's a lot more honest and far less manipulative and underhanded -- I eventually decided that Triss was a better match for Geralt. A lot of having a relationship is showing up, and an itinerant witcher has a hard time showing up ... but Triss can teleport. Geralt can live his life as he's always lived it, and Triss can pop in to interact with him from time to time. This seems like more continuity and more interaction than he can expect with anybody else (except another sorceress), though I still worry about those secrets she's keeping from him....

omg... this could be very tricky  But fortunately it's quite difficult to find a position of the target person you'd wish to surprise with a all of sudden visit.Triss and Shani aren't the persons who wants to settle down . Shani at least not yet because she is very dedicated to her job. And Triss as well, I guess all sorcerers and sorceresses are very keen on becoming an adviser of a king.

Here's my take.I think they're BOTH lousy choices for a man like Geralt.Triss is too manipulative. Geralt may chase skirts but he's a working class guy and he doesn't use sex to advance his position or scheme in dirty politics. Triss does.Shani may be more his style in terms of class but she's hopelessly lost in dealing with a man of this sort. She should, pardon le cliche--marry a doctor. She's too "homey" for his lifestyle. What Geralt needs is some honest, quick witted rogue-y working class sort of woman he meets who can mix it up in a bar brawl, make him laugh, kick back beer with him and his buddies, screw him blind then get back to her own business when he's unavailable.Too bad Salmandra didn't bother creating a mutant female rogue/assassin and he turns her on 'em. Now THAT would be perfect payback.

Aye, this was to me also extremely disappointing. My Geralt was faithful for the love he chose, and what I get in return... tears! Though I'm hoping TW2 will clear things up.And yeah I believe there might be a chance the choices are kept to the next game, or there can be just a series of questions before the game starts to determine what choices you made...

I really hope the choices made are kept in The Witcher 2, too but have other games ever made that possible? I'm wondering because I've never encountered one... All games that I've purchased have had either:1. One true ending and the other one, well, fake...OR2. Only one ending...Do I have to keep my save files?

SPOILERS FROM THE GAMES STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC COMING UP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>In the first Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game you get to choose wether Revan (the main character) is male or female. This has the effect (if you choose so) of Revan from the SECOND game (I believe you have to fight him/her, haven't played those games in quite a while) being all you were in the first game. Otherwise you can just choose whatever you want Revan to be. :)

It all depends on your choices and how you responded in the letter etc. However you never know what happened with your romance because the game ends right where The Witcher 2 will take off.
