I don't really know much about Yen but, as far as I think everyone knows is that Geralt met her to capture the genie and he fell in love with her.

Then they spent a long time living together after the genie incident, and she was also a guest many times at Kaer Morhen.I'm not sure exactly what happened to make them seperate, as only Blood of Elves has been translated from the saga so far obviously. I believe one of the short stories in Sword of Destiny deals with their meeting again, years later. In the last chapter of BoE, when she is instructing Ciri, Yennefer explains that Ciri will have to be completely sincere and honest in everything they talk about if she wants to continue lessons, this is one of my favorite moments between them :D(taken from Blood of Elves)'And that . . . sincerity . . . Does that work both ways? Will I be able to . . . ask you questions?'Yennefer looked at her and her lips twisted strangely.'Of course,' she answered after a while. 'That goes without saying. that will be the basis of the learning and protection I aim to give you. Sincerity works both ways. You are to ask me questions. At any time. And I will answer. Sincerely.''Any question?''Any question.''As of now?''Yes. As of now.''What is there between you and Geralt, Lady Yennefer?'Ciri almost fainted, horrified at her own impertinence, chilled by the silence which followed the question. The enchantress slowly approached her, placed her hands on her shoulders, looked her in the eyes from up close - and deeply.'Longing,' she answered gravely. 'Regret. Hope. And fear. Yes, I don't think i have ommited anything. Well, now we can get on with the tests, you little green-eyed viper. We will see if you're cut out for this. Although after your question I would be very surprised if it turned out you aren't. Let's go, my ugly one.'Ciri bridled.'Why do you call me that?'Yennefer smiles with the corners of her lips.'I promised to be sincere.'

I see why you like it.I haven't read Blood of Elves yet, but I can never find it these days.or maybe its just me being half-blind.

I dunno about you guys, but my Geralt ended up being a bit more of a chivalrous type witcher, and Triss was bawling all over me by act 5. She was talking about home and hearth, me off doing my manly witcher thing and her cooking meals in the house that I build, etc etc. Granted, I think I must have missed something in the epilogue, as I didn't see triss outside of the vision, but I got the distinct feeling that my Geralt found a true and honest love in Triss. My only regret with the game is that I didn't get to see them trying every waking moment of their lives to make Witcher-Sorcerer-Super-Babies after Visima.

That's the way i ended up, aswell, on my last play through. It's also the most unbelievable, i didn't like it at all. It's good to see alternate possibilities played out, though...

imo i think that triss was better connected with geralt than shani was, dont get me wrong, i like shani but when geralt talks to triss is so normal, they just go with the flow i guess. i don't know any other way to put it.its a shame that you have to choose one, i hope that in TW2 shani can forgive geralt or something like that :) in chapter V when you escort her to the druid's cave she doesn't seem so angry anymore.as for triss having her own agenda, i don't see any bad intentions in her heart (at least i hope so), so lets see what happens.

I think Triss always has her own agenda to an extent, being a member of the Lodge or Sorceresses. At the beginning of Ch 3 you see her talking to Philippa Eilhart (i assume) though it never amounts to anything in the plot, it's probably just there to introduce the possibility of not trusting her when it comes to choosing between her and Shani.

I've never liked Triss, not only in the game but also in the books, although they are much different :) Triss from the books appeared to me as a girl without a character, you know, she did almost everything what somebody else ( I mean Fillippa and company) told her to do. :hmmm: In the game she has much stronger personality but being a little dishonest (or just not telling the whole truth ;) ) gives me a feeling that she wouldn't be a good wife for Geralt (if only Geralt would be keen on marriage  )I liked Shani better, because she's an honest girl with a temper

I like and dislike both Triss and Shani, eah for her own thing.BUT: Doesn't anyone here think that Triss was being sarcastic when Geralt tells her he would build a house and stay stuck? She says something like they'd grow their own vegies and he'd make pots and pans to sell? Ouch!! That was like a pitchfork in the gut

I think she didn't mean harm or sarcasm because she really loves Geralt... at least in the novel ;D and she would never refuse if Geralt decides to stay with her.

thanks for that reply. maybe a lot of meanings and intentions were lost in translation. i found that deciding who to leave alvin with was the hardest decision to make in the game -- i've played thru twice. and my main "concern" has always been that shani would not be able to survivie a salamandra assault against her and alvin.

Is there something personal between Shani and Triss in the books? I found their possessiveness over Alvin to be more unreasonable than could be explained by jealousy alone.EDIT: According to the wiki, it's canon that Triss loves Geralt, and has for some time. I can see a few reasons she'd get flippant when Geralt spills his guts to her in King Foltest's court. One, she's nervous, two, she's testing him, and the third is more complicated. She knows both of them wouldn't be able to give up their natures, his as witcher and hers as sorceress, to adapt to some domestic illusion, especially at a time like that, which she was trying to put in perspective for him. They would both be needed to do what it is they do, and in fact wouldn't have it any other way. Further, Alvin was symbolic of Geralt's child, since he can't have his own, and with him missing, Triss has less faith in her illusion of a future family. This 'Alvin as symbolic son' also explains the passion of Triss and Shani's rivalry; both are in love with Geralt, and having the boy with them as his protectors and teachers make them feel like they're nesting with Geralt.

On my first playthrough I felt pushed into a choice I didn't really want to make. I applauded Geralt's response of "I wish you two would just get along".I originally chose Shani over Triss, although I have chosen Triss the major majority since. The relationship feels more...organic...more...natural, if you know what I mean. And Triss is a far better companion in the Epilogue as a support unit ;)

I'd chosen Triss over Shani the first time simply because I'd just rescued the kid from a pack of vicious thugs with a known criminal network behind them, and I didn't want to subject Shani to that. After playing a couple more times, it's kind of a tough call -- for the sake of the kid, rather than the sake of the relationship. Shani is a more nurturing mother-figure and stands a better chance of stabilizing his emotional state, but Triss is better able to protect him, better able to monitor a Source and minimize any damage, and better able to teach him to develop his magic. However, Triss pressures Geralt to be a good father figure while she goes out partying every night and sleeps in every morning, leaving Alvin alone. If it weren't for Alvin, Triss would be the better match for Geralt. I'm not sure why I got the impression she was being flippant when he confessed his love for her; when I played again, she sounded genuinely thrilled.

Good point about Triss, but i'm not sure she's really qualified to teach Alvin much about how to develop his talent. Perhaps more so than Shani, but in Blood of Elves when she is asked if she can help with another source she basically is unable to, and advises Geralt to seek a more experienced Sorceress.

My Geralt don't need Shani or Triss. He needs a boat so he can go see TLOTL and tell her she's got a great ass.

Agreed. One of the better looking NPC choices there. And a more even temperment than the others.

I reckon Triss is the better choice. Shani is homely and cute- all that is fine, but those who say Triss's work for the Lodge of Sorceresses won't allow her to be a good wife or mother must be those who feel women shouldn't go too high in the corporate chain if they want to have their personal life intact.

I kind of tend to agree with the writer of this. Who says a woman should abandon everything of her own and just follow her man around? Or to just stay home and take care of children and home? Triss is wealthy (apparently), even though they had not made a servant for her in the game I should think she would hire a nanny to take care of Alvin while she's doing her thing. That is what people do, don't they? At least here most women decide to continue working and careers even after they have children.I liked Triss, I thought she was smart and witty and had quite realistic personality. Can't say I didn't like Shani, but chose Triss because logically she seemed to be able to better protect Alvin. After what I've heard, that Shani decides to stay home and take care of Alvin I am even more glad I chose Triss. I'll be playing the game through again choosing Shani to see that side of the game, but I am suprised she leaves her important job at the hospital. Although it is kind of strange otherwise too, that there even is the option to leave powerful source like Alvin with Shani, but I guess it is just a way to make Geralt decide between them in game. Perhaps not the best possible way, but one has to accept these small oddities, since the game was so superb in other ways. ;)

I kinda figure that no matter who gets Alvin, that person will have to hire help to deal with him. I figure they'll need to hire high-level sorcerous help to raise Alvin, and the woman Geralt chooses in Act III will be some or all of Alvin's emotional support, depending on how much time Geralt can spend with the kid. I figure there are plenty of people who will want to use Alvin, and he'll need someone in his corner who only loves him, lest he turn out to be like, well, like the Grandmaster. ;) Kids need love, or they turn out badly, so I pick the person who seems to me to be better suited to love Alvin. In my mind, this is Shani -- she seems like a more loving person -- though I'm sure there are arguments in Triss' favor, too, like the fact that she'll be better able to understand what Alvin is going through.
