[EPILOGUE] What ever happened to Triss Marigold?

After the conversation with Foltest at the beggining of act 5, my identity quest update stated "You have realized Triss Marigold is the love of you life." (Assuming you teel him you are close but mind you own biz.)Then she seems to diasssapear totally from the game until briefly in the last battle she appears in "Vision" from. This seemed to be quite a loose end in the plot and wondered if anyone else had other interactions w. that character or (i.e. did I miss something) or is that just the end of the matter (the update in the identiry quest.) I admit if that is it I would be dissapointed from the perspective of plot and chacter development i the story.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I have ran it both ways if you choose Shani, you never see her again until the final battle and she fights with a dagger, at the end you see Triss is the advisor to the king, and in the Identity quest it only says I think I'm in love with Shani. If you choose to help the knights and choose triss she will help you fight your way to the Grandmaster in the temple district, if you choose to help the knights and choose shani she will have you take her out to the druid cave so she can hide out and get them to make her meds and you fight a ton of undead to get thru the barricade, instead of killing knights to help the elves. But if you choose triss and I have ran thru the game 3 times now and chose triss twice and both times i got the same ending as you did, I think it might have something to do with the fact that when you're in mercky waters the witcher has this thought that he was never meant to be a father and husband and is destined to walk this world alone, this time I'm going to write the letter to her and start it with my dear friend Triss and see how the ending goes.

Actually you mentioned another thing. I did write the letter with "my dear Triss." Which was a quest and everything, (you sent the letter with the fischer King.) But then nothing esle occured in relation to the letter wich I though was odd, as in the quest never appeared to have a conclusion and there was no response from Triss, so that is part of why I thought perhaps I had missed something. So I have tried the option you mentioned writing a letter to triss but it seemed just a loose end because I still got the same quest ending you mentioned.

If when you see her in the Castle after the king tells you to help his daughter and talk to these 3 great minds. if you tell her then that you love her and have missed her she will tell you the same thing and that is kinda the end of the romance part of the story.

That is what I tried. Hey did you notice what it said in the "Idnetity Quest" when you do this, that Triss is the "Love of your life" but the quest is not closed? So there is somthing more to the identity quest. Were you able to finish that? The stage I am on is "LOve" but I could not figure how to progress it past that point

I think it might be a part of the next game, I couldn't get it go any farther than that either, but truly i think your supposed to blow her off because even in the end it shows you leaving town alone, I think in the books he walks away from Triss to live the life a a witcher, besides he's a male ho anyway LOL!He bones anything that will let him LOL, I don't think it's in his nature to be true to one woman.

Ha good answer, I guess maybe the ending fits the characters personality from the book well. That makes sense. In the game the romance plot seemed so emphasized I was surprised it just got dropped. I perhaps he did it all for the nookie after all...

I have the feeling it is something that wasn't quite completed when the game was released, so was left open for an expansion or sequel. Because of his memory loss, Geralt has the chance to change, and there is the basic understanding that Geralt doesn't need to stop adventuring if he wants to stay with one or the other of the two women(Triss or Shani).I still feel that a reply letter from Triss or Shani in chapter 4 should have shown up before chapter 5 begins, and in chapter 5, or the final chapter there should have been a completion to the identity quest.

I agree, Dandelion intiated the "compose a letter option," which I followed through but then nothing happened. So it almost seemed like a glitch. This was my biggest dissapointmnet with the last two chapters of the game, focused almost only on quest completion and combat, very little character devopment. Part of why I enjoyed the first chapters is how much time was spent "fleshing" out the NPC'S, which I think adds a lot to an RPG. Too me this is a big part of why the Baldur's gate series still stands out from any RPGs i've played, because the NPC's were so well developed. This is part of why I picked up this game is because it was rumored to be a more story driven (than just combat) RPG. I think this was mostly true with the witcher that it was better than most in the areas of story and NPC's devel. However, the story could have flowed a lot smoother and the NPCs could have been a lot more developed for my taste.I guess as you mentioned some parts did come off as being rushed, or like when a book is made into a movie someone decides which parts to cut and they inevitably cut too much dialouge (a la, the lord of the rings movie series which I thought was great but nowhere near the books)

I noticed the romance plot seemed to suddenly drop also. The sequel explanation makes sense since characters would continue to be deveoloped in each book (say Triss or whoever). However, the specific battle with salamadra and the GM would be finished in this episode. Did anyone get past this point in the "romance." I kind of doubt it because several people mentioned the same thing when playing the shani romance and these two basically mirrored each other almost exactly in the game. I was surprised however that no mention of the sent letter was made in part five since seemed somewhat important in part four. Maybe it was just part of the id. quest. Did anyone get a response to the letter?

I just finished the game trying to romance Triss and it also dropped off for me. She never accepted my ring offer even though I got a ruby one for her. I also chose the bridal wreath as my reward for helping the Hermit. He told me to use it at a wise time and I never got the chance. Perhaps you get the chance with Shani?

When I played the wreath from the hermit was given to the murderous sister in heat of the day (cilena? or somthing). This changed her from a noonwraith to a regular spirit of whatever and allowed her to die (and not wander the earth cursed.)Before Triss will except the ring you have to go through a series of conversation steps with Alvin, once Triss says "you are so good with Alvin." she will except the ring. (and then do some "magic" on you

There is one difference in romancing Shani, at the end if you read your indentity quest it says I THINK I'm in love with Shani and if you romance Triss it says I know realize Triss is the love of my life.Another difference is Triss will be mad at first if you choose Shani but she comes around and helps you and will never stop talking to you, but if you choose Triss, Shani doesn't ever really talk to you again until she thanks you for helpimg her in the hospital.

Shani and Geralt's love isn't considered canon. Triss' romance IS canon, however, it's also written that she is an advisor to the king, thus resulting in her being too busy. (merely a theory)

i decided neutral in murky waters and chose triss over shani. therefore she never left my side and helped me fight at the Manor, instead of Yaevin or Siegfried. So for Triss/Geralt the neutral ending is the "best" I think

I started out giving alvin to Shani - and boy was that a mistake!!!Every time I talked to Triss afterwards, and we had a lot of meetings, she was quite cross with me. "Speak and get out of my sight!"LOL!! I couldn't take the scorn of a sorceress, so I loaded an old save and gave the kid to Triss.........Romance wise?? Again, Geralt plows everything in sight, even after realizing Triss was the love of his life!!Something tells me that romance isn't going to last very long, her reading his mind and all....

I was disappointed that there was no form of resolution here. The ending felt a little incomplete to me because of it, and I was a bit disappointed also that her fate was left unresolved (The sorcerer did say that she was being dragged to the laboratory to be tortured but I guess he was lying). At least you do know what happened to Triss if you picked Shani - I don't see why they couldn't have used part of that ending if she ultimately winds up as Foltest's advisor.Nonetheless, a great game for all its minor faults.

Hmm, I know Triss Marigold, as Triss Ranuncul and Dandalion as Marigold :eek:And I remember the 1st conversation with Triss at Foltest's castle, which ended by Triss saying "hug me Geralt", but obviously, he did not (or it was not scripted). But it did not change Triss attituted to Geralt when fighting later (I mean she was a real help.)

Playing as neutral, and going with Triss, my end game showed that she became the advisor to Foltest. In fact, Triss and Foltest talk about it during the epilogue if you stay neutral. Dunno what the order or scoia'tael endings are though with her.
