You can play offline, as I said earlier I have done so when my internet was down a few days. This online deal right now is completely related to the issue of not being able to play all together. As others stated, its something to do with the patch and installing it as well as the DLC. Which is on the store but won't install yet. If you read earlier posts you will see someone posted a link that MS is fixing it ASAP. So....we all just have to be patient. Could be up in the next few minutes. I doubt more than an hour or two more. Do what I am doing, reading the Witcher books on my Kindle to pass the time lol.
i think its working again guys, at least the msg about the witcher 3 is gone from the xbox live status
Why do I need to be connected to the internet in order to play a game I paid for to play whenever I want? You know cdprojectred comes off as the good guys of the video game industry and I want to believe them but when stuff like this happens its hard to believe them.. They can give out all the free dlc they want and tell everyone they are gamers but when you release a buggy mess and then not allow us to play that buggy mess it doesnt come cross as though they are gamers and care about gamers..
I don't think any of us have installed the patch or DLC. The patch works like any other Xbox game, it auto installs the second you start the game. Except when we went to play, it just won't let us. I don't think any of us have installed anything yet. More along the lines of something went wrong when they went to add it to the game, thus stuck waiting. Yeah but on the 360 all you needed to do was Clear Cache, disconnect and you'd be able to play the game without the recent patch. Then you could just connect and reinstall the patches once everything was fixed. It doesn't even have leaderboards... there is no need for it to require Xbox Live, unless of course it's a DRM preventative measure.
I think it has to do with verification of ownership. That's why you can't play offline . If i had to guess.
I bought it digitally for that very reason, CD's get scratched and you can't play them without the CD. Downloads only. The xbox probably just doesn't realize you own it, hence why it doesn't launch and why you can't reinstall
This is too much. Not one comment here from the developer regarding the issue and nothing public from them anywhere else. I'm extremely disappointed with this game's launch. Bug after bug, glitches, frame rate issues, and now this. What a collosal failure. Everyone who bought a digital copy has been unable to play and not a word. And the worse part is the crappy agreement shoved down our throats basically saying we have no recourse as consumers. It's the Wild West and buyer beware.

Actually, I did research and read the exact opposite of what you said. That's the problem when neither company responds to customers.
The game is undercooked. Admit it. I don't care about the reviews because 99% of reviewers played on a late PS4 build and even mentioned their concerns about tech issues but glossed over them because the game was that good. Now, however, it's inexcusable because you can't even play on the One.
