The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will have its own tools, and Visual Effects Artist José Teixeira explained what CD Projekt RED is doing with it in an interview on WitcherBR.com.
Does anyone know if there's such a big difference of volumetric fog to semivolumetric, or non volumetric..? And what effects are those that José is talking about that are only able with volumetric fog?
I think the main differences would be how the fog reacts to the objects around it (more realistic in the volumetric case of course), and how it would interact with lighting. Although forward lit soft particles can give a similar effect as well I guess.
hm, I remember that video about the nvidia tech used on the witcher and yes the forward lit soft particles is really awesome.
