Fantastic Gwent Re-balance mod!!!

So, I don't want to post outside links here, but on that big modding site, there is a FANTASTIC mod that completely re-balances Gwent, making all of the decks valid throughout the entire game (instead of the Northern Realms being the clear leader due to the low attack spy cards and Foltest the boss of bosses leader). It also restores some cut artwork for some cards. For all Gwent addicts, PLEASE check it out. It's made me love Gwent all over again!

Linking it could have helped, you know.

It's called "Gwent Redone and Alternate Art". Just look it up in your search engine.

Edit: Ah, what the heck http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/221/?

thanks for this.

I notice there's another mod http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/173/?tab=3&selected_game=952&navtag=http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/ajax/modimages/?id=173&user=1&gid=952&pUp=1

I wonder which is better...anyone used both?

Does it do something about the "Mysterious Elf" card ? I really loathe that card and how broken it is, and how I'm basically forced to include it unless I want to cripple my own deck on purpose.

Ah - I didn't know how outside links were handled. Sorry, Tuco. Next time I'll post links.

I've used both and I prefer the one with the art too.

And Wendek - doesn't touch him, but touches almost everything else, meaning it's no longer the main card to have and it's unnecessary to use to win.

It will always be broken as it is because it's essentially a no-risk, "play with 11 cards whil your opponent only has 10" card. You have absolutely no reason to not include it in your deck. It either needs to have high attack (especially as it won't be affected by weather then) or not be a hero (though then it'd be very close in power to Thaler). Or some other drawback somewhere.
But I've had that argument on reddit as well and found my opinion in the minority so whatever, I guess something's just wrong with me.

It's not broken at all. I think it's a great addition to the collection. There are a ton of spy cards. There is also a leader power that lets you start with one more card than your opponent. Is that broken? No. Of course not. And it is very, very far from "play with 11 cards while your opponent only has 10" card. Your opponent can play other spy cards. Your opponent can play THAT card. Then, provided they had 10 in their hand when they played it, they will also have 11 cards. I mean, this isn't rocket science. Thaler is almost as good as the "Mysterious Elf" and he's simply for sale in an inn.

Fact is, I used to haaaate when an opponent played
Avallac'h.
It usually meant I was in for a whooping, because his deck was so much better than mine - especially if it was N. Realms and had a few decoys. We'd go back and forth, back and forth, spying and decoying. Now that I have that mod installed, though, I can not even bother with spies in some decks and beat the players who throw Avallac'h out in the first round.

Also, there are other hero cards I would put in a deck WAAAAY before
Avallac'h
. Geralt and Ciri, for one. Are they broken because they're 15 points? I throw them down and I now have 15 points while my opponent has 0. There is absolutely no reason not to include them in a deck. One of the reasons they're hero cards.
Ditto Avallac'h.
What about Yennefer? Is she broken because I can use her to play my opponent's Thaler and have one more card in my hand afterward? You see where I'm going with this?

So, to sum up: Not broken.

PS. If you hate it that much, why not make a simple mod altering its stats? Boom - your problem is solved.

You don't understand. Avallac'h and Thaler are fundamentally different because you can counterplay the latter. You can revive him with a medic or decoy him and then play him in turn.
Geralt and Ciri aren't that much stronger. A Kayran can give more than 15 attack in total with his power if you play, say, Nekkers + Vampires. You'll get a total of 8 (Kayran attack) + 8 (3 for the nekkers and 5 for the vampires) attack points out of him. (even if your opponent plays a weather effect btw, your creatures will have 2 attack instead of 1)

There is also a leader power that lets you start with one more card than your opponent. Is that broken?

No, because doing that gives up your leader ability. Many leader abilities basically amount to getting one free card : either a horn effect or a weather effect. Drawing it is still just one card.

Nothing changes the fact that you have no reason to remove him from your deck. None. There is no situation where he'll be in your hand and you'll think "I should redraw for something else". Compare to Shilard for instance. He's a spy but if you play him, then I can answer with the Crones, who have 6 attack. This means you can't Scorch my Crones because you'll first have to kill Shilard. Thus there is a degree of risk involved in playing him. The risk is highest for Stefan Skellen, medium for Vattier and Stennis and lowest for Thaler (only 1 attack, its only weakness are medics and decoys). But no matter what, there is never any risk involved with playing Avallac'h.

Never any risk involved playing Geralt either. Or Ciri. Or any other vanilla hero.

All I'm saying here is that just because you don't personally like a card does NOT mean it's broken at all.

And I'm also saying that if you hate it so much, simply make a mod to change what it does. Your problem is solved and this whole silly back and forth is irrelevant.
