I think the fact that there is so much diversity here is a great indicator of how good the book was. My favourite character, I'm not afraid to say, was Ciri. Most "children of destiny" characters in fantasy books (see Rand in WoT; Garion in Belgradia) spend at least half the time feeling very sorry for themselves. Apart from being annoying little do-gooders they also undergo a seamless transition from "village cretin" to "godlike". Not so with Zireael.I also liked Angolume, I think a brothel in Toussaint would have been an excellent enterprise.

I've noticed you like long names. I want to remind all who did not yet read the whole Witcher story, that Geralt once wanted to take name of Geralt Roger Eryk du Haute-Bellegarde :) but Vesimir persuaded him that this would be ridiculous, pretensious and simply retarded :)

I have only one favourite character there - and it's Regis. Actually I would've abandon the witcher books completely if he didn't show up - I was totally freaked out and bored by the story tendencies at that moment. That's only my humble opinion, so if you disagree - and I know, most of you will disagree - don't call me names for it. Don't read the following if you don't want to. Ok, you've been warned. As I think, the river of Sapkowski's inspiration had dried out after the second book, so the storyline became a composition of rather chaotic ideas... The most frustrating of them for me was the main character's (Geralt's) degradation as the story went on. It seems very much illogical that Geralt The Witcher like he was in the Last Wish has later transformed into an (excuse me, please, but I have to say it) obsessed emo-halfwit with the behavior of a ten-year old. I couldn't help but pity his companions who had to put up with his stupid actions. And Regis was the light of reason in the fog of stupidity. The others were not so bad also, especially Milva (she was my fav too until... well, I won't say ;)) but each one of them turned dumb or performed some very OOC actions from time to time. How can a very much grown-up man (as far as I know Geralt was more than 50 years old), with stable and clearly formed personality become almost the opposite of himself in two years? It's pretty much impossible except if he'd gone insane - but it's not the case, even if it may seem so :)Anyway, it would seem more or less normal if Geralt was like this from the start. But sorry, I can't believe that people can change that much. I've heard a phrase somewhere that goes like "If a human had already become a person, it would be easier to kill him than to make him become the opposite". These are wise words I think. And - thank you CDPR guys - it's a great relief that Geralt in the game is like he was supposed to be, exactly the Last Wish version. I've started reading the books after I've finished the game, so I expected Geralt to be game-like all the way... Well, I got my share of disappointment starting with the 3d book and to the end.Ah, well, I could talk about it long enough but I rather quit with my grumbling or I guess some problems may fall on my head which I do not want to happen.

I agree that the third book was the weakest one, but as for Geralt's personality...I believe that his behaviour was due to him feeling powerless, quite the new experience to the skilled witcher. Yeah, he was able to slice every human or unhuman opponent in his reach, but there was no way in hell he could defeat kingdoms and empires. That was the new players in the game, and he was a way out of his league. As I have seen this, he was preparing himself to die in some doomed attempt to avert the destiny. Because he was unable to just give up. And then, he figured out a way...And the Geralt from the beginning of the fifth book was my favorite Geralt, playing in Toussaint just the simple, naive witcher, killing monsters and gathering the fortune... :)
