Planescape Torment, Realms of Arkania 2, Dark Sun, Legend of Kyrandia, C&C Tiberian Sun, Emperor Battle for Dune, Homeworld, Universe, Dark Souls, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Supreme Commander, Divinity 2 - DKS, Heroes of Might and Magic 3&5, Disciples 2, Hitman Blood Money, Gothic 2, Freelancer, TES III - Morrowind, LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth 2, Vampire the Masquerade Redemption & Bloodlines, The Witcher, Deus Ex and god knows how many others.

I try to keep most of these installed at all times on my PC.

Krishian and Gregski: was "To the Moon" not remarkable? Well-plotted, well-written, mildly surprising. Probably my favourite indie game, if I was to categorize. And depending on how you define indie.

It was...special. It's a perfect example of how a bunch of pixels combined with a few piano chords can move your soul, imagination, sensitivity.

It also perfectly prooves that all this talk about the power of new consoles and high end PCs means nothing. Excess of power usually going to waste, with 80% of games and developers doing the same thing, over and over, no matter how powerful platform they have available (vide: PS4 reveal Killzone presentation).

Mmm. Indeed. I wouldn't say it means nothin precisely: I enjoyed Skyrim quite a bit and remember those visuals clearly. But of course, that last scene by the lighthouse in To The Moon, just as vividly.

A congruence of these two extremes, the visual and the emotional, would make for a splendid game.

Although there is an argument that much of To The Moon's impact came from disregarding the visuals in favour of the aural and written content. Hmm.

Yeah, that's true. I'm not saying that a game with ugly graphics but great emotional impact is the perfect one here. I mean that graphics, coming from the specs, are not enough to take gaming to another level.

So agreed. What was my favourite example of that back in the day...some horrid but ultrapretty TPS shooter. Set in an arctic world...anyway. We'll need a least-favourite games and why thread soon.

Has anyone here mentioned STALKER? If not, I'll add it to the list. I've played it and it's sequels and it is so good at so many things. Sneaking game, shooting game, horror game, fantastic atmosphere and so much more. If you haven't tried it - update to the Complete 2009 mod - please do so.

Half-Life and Portal are my all-time favourites.

I also enjoy Minecraft, CS:GO/CS:S, TF2 and Battlefield 3.

You, sir, have good taste! One of my favourite series of all time. So sad that we'll (probably) never see STALKER 2, but my love of the developer may convince me to give Survarium a try, even if it is a mmofps.

Yes. I will try to love it. I will try very hard. Probably as hard as I tried when I played Warhammer Online. Where love prevailed, but only for a few months.

Of course you've enjoyed Metro 2033? Not as good, not nearly, but still very remniscent.

Agree with Planescape: Torment and Portal.
Max Payne, all of them.
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
Unreal Tournament 2004.

I have a weird addiction to the Gothic games. They were the first real sandbox games that I fell in love with. Loved Gothic I and Gothic II. Gothic III was too different for me to get into. Though there is a Gothic III Forsaken Gods that I've been enjoying until some recent glitch in it has got me stuck.

I'm also a Hitman junkie, but the newest one hasn't gotten me hooked yet. Hitman: Bloodmoney was awesome.

From what I remember Complete 2009 makes the game significantly easier. I prefer a challenge in my games, something akin to the Misery mod.

Ha! Totally not, at least not on Master. One shot and dead, often. I just grabbed the Mil Prot suit 9M and now I can survive a burst.
Damn dogs still get me though.

Edit: I am using a realistic weapons mod, though.
