Feelings about both games

I dont know how to exactly describe that...
but even that I love The Witcher 2, The Witcher 1 feeling is fantastic I mean Behind the blocky faces and the lacking of graphic (minor issue)
The feeling of the story in The Witcher 1 is feeling more personal... I mean... Garelt is alone almost in every place... and I get this feeling again whan I arrived to Ch 4 with all the Murky Waters and stuff its feel realy personal and forging your own destany if you know what i mean

The Witcher 2 is a fantastic games and I think that TW2 is better but still the atmosphre that I get in Murky Waters (The very begginng of Ch 4 was priceless)

I hope that CDPR will make moments like that in The Witcher 3

sorry about my English and that stupid thread... but I was have to share that with you guys!

You don't have to apologize for anything. This is Witcher forums after all and your impressions of the games are not only valuable to the devs, but to all us Witcher fans as well. And you English is good, so no need to worry there ; ]

I enjoyed the atmosphere of the Witcher One as well. Chapter 4 is my favourite and I'm also a big fan of Chapter 1 even though some say it's dull. Little towns and villages !

And you can rest easy, as the devs have confirmed numerous times that the story of TW3 will be more personal in nature, much more about Geralt and his close ones than about the war happening around him [which will still be fairly important of course].

I have a feeling you wish may come true !

I agree, TW2 is better game then TW1, but the first game has better atmosphere. It looks TW3 will have better atmosphere than TW2. It is going to be the most epic game ever:victory:

The plot in TW1 was awesome. And there was a fantastic climate. I remember how I was scared, when I was walking through swamps in the night :D

The more I look at that GIF, the more I am wondering: How the heck can he twist his arm to get his swords without looking like an idiot? :p

Also @ Emiel Regis: The striga quest I was really not looking forward to due to the scary nature of it all. But it was not that scary after all. Run around the table,..

I used to be a striga... until I took an aard to the face

And yes chapter IV in TW 1 is amazing. I so love it there. Easily one of the best chapters in the game, along with chapter 2.

You better ask a question, how can he take out his swords at all without magically making his hand much longer? The only way to do it is to use some special scabbards which open on the side, definitely not the regular ones, from which the sword has to be pulled out.

Well, it only looks hard, but it is not that difficult to take them out. Just grab the hilt and pull. But what I can't imagine is how to put them back into scabbards without taking them off . How a hell can he precisely stick a tip of a blade into a scabbard, when the blade is so long, and he can't actually see what he is doing?
But all right, I can pretend it is one of the unsolved mysteries of the witcher world :hmm:

@new&improved_vivaxardas: That's the point. To grab and pull such a long sword from a scabbard attached to one's back one needs unnaturally long arms. I think this was already posted on the forum, but it's worth repeating:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=IocQ_DZVAU0

And Geralt's swords are even longer than that in the video.

Here is another video from this guy, about unrealistic depicting of swords drawing:

The bottom of the scabbard is not stuck to his back. He can pull at the sword, and take it out over his shoulder. You could already see this in TW2 (although it happened pretty fast.) He can put them back the same way. Put the tip in the scabbard, pull it so it's horizontal, and slide it in.
(I was wondering about this as well, and tried it at home ^^)

Anyway, while i loved the atmosphere in TW1, especially when i entered Vizima for the first time, and in Murky Waters, i love TW2 even more. Everything from TW1 was improved imo, (except maybe dice poker ^^) even the atmosphere. The only problem i had with the game were the maze-like streets of Loc Muinne. Seemed like they didn't have time to finish constructing the city properly, so they just blocked of a load of streets.

I think that the atmosphere in the first game was better... but maybe beacuse it was more personal in the first game, its feel like "this is the story of Garelt" when the second game feel like the story of kingdoms... but again... I still think that the second game was better but the atmosphere in the first game was amazing I dont know how to describe it... I just say personal again... maybe its the touching OST

You can't. Easy as that. Historically, swords on back are nonsense - it just doesn't work, your arm is too short to draw your sword over the shoulder (+ risk of cutting ear/neck). The closest you get, is bags/scabbards for prolonged transportation, but you wouldn't be able to draw it right out and start fighting. You'd take it off, draw the sword out and put the bag aside. The most common way to carry it, though, is at your side.

The linked video is different - that sword is considerably shorter than a European Long Sword.

You clearly know the games, at least I'm pretty much in full agreement with you here.

If CDPR always had a Trilogy in mind, and I think they did, then #1 had to be personal (amnesia & character / world introduction), #2 was rightly judged to explore the world & its factions / politics more, Geralts return of memory was the counterpoint to this and perfectly understated - I mean secondary to the world themes.

#3 We will be back to highly personal, and by this stage we all know the world.... it's going to be great :)

Superlative storytelling.

oh and that gif again... its frigging hypnotic ! all that movement blows me away. We know Geralts model is not finished perhaps that includes the swords.

Sure it is shorter, but it also shows better ways to unsheathe sword than just pull it from your back with the sword clipping through scabbard. They could animate geralt flipping his scabbard or pulling it down. Or they could be more true to the books and add mechanism that pulls the sword for geralt.

Or just cut the crap and put his swords on his waist

I hope that Garelt will be back to is personal journey and not continue with the political one... I mean the second game was realy good but the feeling of story telling then tailoring like in the first game was realy emotional
I know that Im sound a little obsessed with Murky Water chapter but I realy hope that in the third game they put a moments like that whan Garelt look at sea & statue and say to him self that its a quiet place but I cant stay here (of course that the conflict begin and all... but you know what I mean) and I wonder how can they make a moment like that when thay going on open world (dont get me worng I really want a open world) and you can comeback when ever you want

Murky Waters is a fan favourite, your exact sentiments have been expressed so often I'm sure the good people at CDPR will provide for our needs ! :)

But in the meantime, play this, open another browser page when you navigate away, that's what I do here.

btw have you read this illuminating article about the company ?

I hope we get a nice variety of themes in TW3. A multi-region world should lend itself nicely to such an approach. But I do agree that I absolutely love the atmosphere in the first game and that it isn't quite as good in the second title.
