Female fans: games degrading?

Has it been pointed out that RL women don't wear metal bikinis because when they ride up, they cut in really bad places?
Bahaha!Oh, frightening thought. I just realised that if I can mince around in a pair of knock-out heels, that murder my feet, but I adore anyway.... does that mean I can't use discomforting pain as an excuse to not wear a metal bikini?? :-\

Oh noes! Well, I still dare any man to try and use that argument on his girlfriend/wife."But baby, you wear heels."*slap!*

I didnt find Triss to be any worse then a combination of female Elementalists and Necromancers in Guild Wars ....Except you end up having woo hoo in Sims 2 style with her.

As a man, I don't think it's really important what characters look like. Actually that doesn't have anything to do with being a man. I think. But I threw that in there 'cause the OP was targeting female fans. What's more important is how a character is portrayed. Solid characterization, and who cares what someone looks like. To a point, though: some games are pretty much at the point of self-satire when it comes to the jiggle physics (that means you, most fighting games of the last decade). I suppose it may drive sales, but as for me, I'd only go by appearance if all other factors were equal. I can't really think of a case where that'd be the deciding factor. I'd be lying my butt off if I didn't say that the same hypersexualized characters that I've just whinged about still appeal, but, if you're just looking for kicks, there's this thing called the internet....In the end, though, video games are a primarily visual medium... And you know what that means:"I wanted TV ugly, not ugly ugly!"

Hey, female posters....I've always wondered how women who play games feel about how women are portrayed in said games. Personally, I've always thought games were a little sexist, the way female characters are always built like pornstars and in RPGs where metal bikinis and low-cut robes with their tits flopping out everywhere.
I dunno if I would say 'degrading' per se. I mean, I dont feel belittled when I play. But I definitely notice the clothing and the in-your-face boobage, and often comment to my bf about it. For instance, I definitely noticed Triss in Kaer Morhen and the way her boobs seem to move independently to the rest of her body -- even if she isn't moving! It was one of the first things I noticed about the game, and to be blunt, it almost turned me off. (Thank heavens I persevered!)I would have liked to be able to play as a female, badass, monster-killing witcher, maybe that will be something to look out for in future games? :shrug:I guess with FPS type games, I don't really have the expectation of playing a female character, but RPGs and MMOs are usually diverse enough to allow that expectation. But on the whole for me, it's a small consideration in my gaming experience. :)

It's funny, but now that you mention it, yes! Triss's cleavage in the Prologue did almost turn me off the game. i do believe my thoughts were something like "oh for f***s sake! not another game that is all about tits!"but like you, i'm glad i stuck with it, and it seems to be only in the prologue that her cleavage has a life of its own :)

I already knew Triss is a woman who is aware of her attractiveness and she uses it to provoke. But I admit when I saw her negligee as casual dress I found it a bit ridiculous.. it somehow overshoot the target.

I'd love to see an official release centring on Triss and the other sorceresses in order get better understand the way they work and feel. I find the lack of real information on them rather intriguing.~ Roxy

One thing the books makes clear is that most (possibly all) sorceresses are not as naturally beautiful as they appear. Elves are credited with having created make-up, but sorceresses are said to be masters (or should that be mistresses?) of it's use. In particular, during the time this game is set, there is every indication that at the very least Triss' hair has been artificially enhanced.I've not read exactly what happened, but Triss is one of the sorcerers who fought at the Battle of Sodden Hill and she did not come out of it unscathed. The one (vague) reference i found was that as she recalls that fateful battle, she unconsciously touches her mane .... hmmmm... and in the The Last Wish (or possibly it was Sword of Destiny), we find out that the famous and beautiful Yennefer is actually (or was, not sure how good these sorceresses are!) a hunchback

Considering that the use of magic would take its toll on the user, that makes a lot of sense. And, of course, those with the gift would certainly be expected to use it to enhance their own image. Even if only to more easily sway others to accept them in their dealings. Sorcerers, witches, etc. are usually described as having some sort of ugliness to them in literature, be it in looks or being evil, once their 'true' nature is revealed. It's refreshing to read that, like the real world, Sapkowski's world also has very little 'true' beauty in the modern definition of it. I'd love an in depth history (

Provided that we will get more Witcher sequels I would welcome a focus on main characters of the Sapkowski's Witcher characters. So we can learn more about their past.

I remember that as well though I don't remember whether it was The Last Wish or The Sword of Destiny

I was somewhat amused but also somewhat annoyed, the first time I opened the NPC table in D'jinni, to find that the template for the peasant woman in the low-cut dress is called "boob2" in D'jinni. Really, it is!

It sort of begs the question, then why does cdp go on about NOT being so focussed on breasts when they name a character model that way ;)

Maybe they entitled it for convenient reasons? :hmmm: You merely need 4 keys on your keyboard to type boobs2 but you need 7 keys to type breasts2

Have to say i am not the slightest bit bothered by the way women are portrayed in the Witcher (or any other game as a matter of fact). mainly because they provide a damn good laugh every time Geralt collects another card! I guess with the boob thing its probably also important to remember that (according to research) men are more turned on by visual attributes - so I guess it all comes back to the usual saying of 'sex sells'. Frankly I don't have a leg to stand on here - because as a woman, I certainly prefer to look at well built men, although thats certainly not important in the grand scheme of things where choosing a partner is concerned. and Triss's boobs in the prologue are hilarious, I'm surprised she didnt give herself black eyes!!

Watch any American movie and count the number of sex scenes. which have nothing to do with the story. they even go so far as to open the movie .with a sex scene that has no relavance to the story. Why because some males just don"t grow up .It's all a novelty as if they are little boys discovering the other sex for the first time.So if Triss is to manipulate men she has to pander to the little boy inside.
