I had Tomb Raider for the Sega Saturn xD

I thought they did the reveal poorly, though. This is one of the biggest reveals ever, in gaming. They were basically like, here's a trailer...

It could have been done way better, imo. Let's just hope they keep the soul of the game in tact, and do it right.

#edit: also, why the hell did they use Advent Children music, and not a FFVII score..

Obviously, I care little for the reveal, and more for how the actual game will be, but I still think they balls'd that reveal.

True... what they don't quite seem to get, though: If they do this right - upgrade the graphics and presentation but keep the game play and story in tact - this could be the biggest thing SE did in the last couple of years... bigger even then FF15. I just hope they don't make it an action RPG or something.

I'm a big fan of the original.

I hope Square-Enix do a good job with the remake. They has lost my trust many years ago.

I'm curious about the combat system. I know they wont go back to ATB (Active Time Battle). I liked the ADB (Active Dimension Battle ) + gambit system in FFXII, but I think it was just me.

Heh, I remember when Square Enix said that they're not going to make an actual Final Fantasy VII remake until they release Final Fantasy game that is better then that, otherwise it would mean that they failed to deliver a better quality products since 1997 and just gave up with trying to do so. That means they either decided to swallow their pride or they have a lot of faith in Final Fantasy XV.

Gameblog did an interview with Nomura

  • Development began just after his withdrawal from FFXV project - September 2014
  • For the gameplay, he wants to take a different approach than the original game, while retaining iconic elements. He admits indeed the team do not want to ruin the original experience. For him, the biggest challenge is to change the elements that must be without spoiling the game. He believes that some aspects must necessarily be transformed as the evolution of the visual style of the characters are more realistic in the trailer.
  • Kingdom Hearts III and FFVII R are developped by different team. FFVII R won't slow down the development of KH3
  • The development of Kingdom Hearts III is at a relatively advanced level

They'll get rid of the Highwind and the world map, I can see it from here.
They'll get rid of the humor and silliness...

Huh... dunno. Let's say thy use the FFXV engine (which is a reasonable prediction) then they already have the option for vehicles in there... it would also mean there will be some kind of action RPG combat, though. Which can work... let's face it, ATB combat with today's graphics would look a bit silly.

The humor is in the dialogue/story, and those can be translated beat-for.beat.

I just hope they also recreate all the iconic set pieces and invironments... FFVII was a figgen huge game, and some of it's mps would look crazy in full 3D.

I'm all too happy to see the old low-poly models go, but I wonder how they'll treat the soundtrack, which is certain to be updated, too. I always thought the MIDI style used in FF7 had a certain "artificial" charm that fit the setting quite well.

A little old thread, but let's make it alive again!

I just watched this...

Game looks awesome, they really did REmake. But I'm not sure if it is a good thing only... I kinda liked those old characters with cartoon looks :( I think just HD remaster would have been enough. Now this, although it looks awesome, feels whole different game. When I first saw that original E3 remake video, I thought this would be so great! But now when I watch this new stuff compared to old one, I miss that old stuff. I liked how it looked. I'm still going to buy and play that new version, but I think it can't win the original.

What do you think?

I actually adore the new look :) I always imagined how the cartoon characters would look realistically while I was playing FF VII for the first time. And then I saw the Advent Children of course. So I think this new look fits the actual atmosphere perfectly. The episodic release though... We'll see about that part.

I have only played FF8 and FFX so far. Friends have told me I should play FF7 too because it is one of the best parts. As it iseems I'll skip the old release and will only play the new one. ^^
