Find the wolf in the garden

hi guys I'm at a quests about a werewolf I had to kill who is in a garden but after I find the key in the cave behind the water mill and open the house door and read the wolfs journal I have to kill him in the garden but I can't find him anywhere in the area nor garden. Also there's a diagram for a lvl 42 sword in the chest.

There are 2 cut-scenes with him which you immediately fight. The rest he just respawns in his cave. If you didn't get 2nd cut-scene, read the spoiler below:

You can lift his curse then kill him as a human to get 2 rewards. I had 2 cut-scenes with him where I fought him, one is far left near a shed where he knocked the door down, which didn't occur until AFTER I fought him once and he respawned (rather I don't remember the door being down until after the 1st fight, I seem to remember the door being locked). Using Witcher senses, investigate the door he ripped off, then walk in. He should appear. If you want both rewards, after reading the journal in the locked house (the one with 2 doors at each side inside) read the journal from inventory selection. It'll say something that contradicts someone's statement. Go back to that person (he's near a harbor) and confront him. He'll give you a quest item that lets you remove the curse. After that, return the cave the werewolf uses as a lair. Might need to fight him again until you can approach and talk. Give him the item. (do NOT kill him). After that, talk to his human form until every option is exhausted and it updates about his reward being in Novigrad. After that, slice the pig. Then go back to quest giver for her reward, and revisit Novigrad for 2nd reward from loanshark.

Hope that helps!

This is a tough quest compared to others in the game. A lot less hand holding. You really need to get to know the garden and figure it out on your own vs relying on the minimap. There are multiple areas that cannot be seen on the map that are part of this quest. Hint: Could potentially be below you.

While we are at it, an intermediate task says "use the amulet or find another way to lift the curse", so is there any other way? There's an option to feed him, and I was able to give him some rotting flesh, but that didn't seem to have achieved anything.

You can
feed him rotting flesh. He'll die. Loot him. You'll get your rotting flesh back and also werewolf flesh. Beat him down a 2nd time. This time, give him the werewolf flesh. That'll kill him. To actually lift the curse, once you find the book behind the lock doors to house in center of garden, it contradicts the story of the guy by the pier told you. Talk to him and get the wolf fang. Or as others mentioned, you can kill him, but I resort to that only as a last resort. With the wolf fang, go back to the garden, beat wolf down yet again, then this time while talking to him, use the option to give him the claw instead. He'll transform into a human. From there, he'll go on about how he's going back to his old ways. The guy is scum so kill him AFTER talking to him so he tells you where to get his reward for turning him human. If you let him live, it may or may not impact some NPC down the road, I'm not sure. I know killing him will have NPC say things about how you lifted the curse. I imagine allowing him to live will have an NPC at some point comment on how he did something to someone (like the guy spreading the bubonic plague if you let him live)
