Fishing and Hunting

Let the Reds hear our opinions in yet another matter. How should fishing and/or hunting work?(if they implement any)

Edit:
Sorry for the typos in option 3, its actually : *Fully Fleshed out* and *Possible with traps*

I would vote if I knew what role does food play in the game, if you cant even eat it like in TW2 then i don't want hunting or fishing, if it provides some bonuses like in TW1 I'd prefer if you could hunt animals on land, since that's where you are most times and just buy fish from someone, and finally, If there's an extra hardcore/survival mode where eating is necessary to live or fight acceptably both activities should probably be implemented.

And yeah, I want that survival mode :p, that's the ultimate Witcher experience.

Hunting and fishing, YES TO BOTH. Much time can be spent wandering the wilderness, hunting. Also, just for everyone, this article confirms it.

The way i see it fishing wouldn't really fit Garelt at all, but a man's gotta eat.
A hunting mechanic is way better than fishing in my opinion though, i'd rather set up traps, track my next meal like i track monsters instead of having a simple fishing rod and basically waiting for it to wiggle around.

Hunting will be in. It's a really good feature. Can you imagine if they had confirmed it, which they did, and having the world populated with animals, which we know it is, and not being able to hunt them? Hunting is in.

My bad then, didn't read the books they weren't translated in my country, but i'd still prefer a fully fleshed out hunting mechanic.

For hunting animals such as deers and so on, one has to use long range weapons such as a bow and arrows. I can't imagine Geralt running after deers with his sword drawn trying to hit them. I guess traps or knife throwing would work also, but it is not fun. If there is hunting in the game, then I want bow and arrows. But I never remember Geralt hunting animals such as deers for their meat, he is a monster hunter so he hunts the monsters for money; then goes to an inn to eat up and drink spending the money he's earned from hunting the monsters, and gets some dried meat and bread for the road. I remember him fishing in the books though, mostly to pass time and think.

Geralt doesn't need to hunt. As @shawn_kh said, he hunts monsters, gets his money and simply buys food for the road. And because he hunts monsters, he doesn't need to go deep into wilderness, as it's only monsters near human settlements are of any concern to him, for they are the ones that he'll get money for.

As for bows and crossbows, Geralt didn't ever possess one, so there's no need for him to have one in the game.

Geralt fishes in the books as @pedrolago already stated. I enjoyed fishing in Fable so I wouldn't mind this. Though @shawn_kh has a point, and I can't picture Geralt with a bow, nor that he's desperately trying to catch up to a bolting deer. But, just because I can't picture it does not mean that I don't trust CDPR to have some smart solutions in the matter. I mean, they have done it before. Not everything in the games are also in Sapkowski's books are they? The devs respect Sapkowski's books, but know enough about the world to dare go their own way. The devs even incorporate lore from other works, just as Sapkowski did. Anyone who have read The Last Wish know this(many references to several old folktales like Snowhite). Anyone who have played Witcher 1 know this(references like Lovecraft's Dagon is one of many).

I would love hunting and fishing along with monster hunting, either using the spoils for crafting, as alchemical ingredients, or selling them.

In my opinion hunting was 'verified'(grain of salt, people) a year ago wasn't it?

"Geralt can hunt wild animals for their furs and claws in The Witcher 3, and has a sense ability he can use to track colour-coded traces of beasts. This will help him prepare tactics in advance."

Sure, this was a year ago but what I took from it were the key words 'hunt', 'furs', 'claws', 'wild' and 'animals'. Animals. Ergo not only describing monster hunting(the word beast was used and can be both) or monster spoils(claws and fur or whatever ingredients that may yield).

This is the source:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-03-01-the-witcher-3-no-qtes-a-50-hour-quest-no-xp-for-killing-only-for-quests

But I see know it was already posted by @bigb131999

However, strolling into this thread I looked it up and found this, and I don't know what to make of it:

http://www.examiner.com/article/how-will-geralt-hunt-monsters-the-witcher-3-wild-hunt

True enough, the article is about monster hunting, but it also says that "Witchers do not hunt for food, so we’re not talking fishing but rather a sword-for-hire kind of thing."

Ergo this cancels out what I took from the previous article and fishing seems to be out the window.

Have we actually gotten CDPR's official statement regarding any of this I wonder? Not fishing mind, but being able to hunt all animals as well as monsters?

To be fair, wolves are animals. Bests yes, but not 'monsters' per se, and they are verified in the game. In fact they are making a return from Witcher 1 where you could take their fur. So maybe hunting never was about hunting deer or any docile animal that doesn't attack Geralt? Though these animals do exist in Witcher 3.

Please, enlighten me.

Fishing and hunting? Yes, in my opinion we should choose bow, or traps... Geralt can hunting google translator cyt:
"The walls and doors of their lodging Witchers decorated skins of slaughtered beasts while hunting - deer, lynx, wolves, wolverines even."
"Geralt, to the fury of the sorceress, gone somewhere and appeared only in the evening, carrying hunted goat."
blood of Elves
In polish original Geralt kill goat by a shot...

I'd like to see fishing just as much as hunting because both are mentioned in the book but they're not necessary so long as there's monster hunting since that's the main source of income for Geralt.

Well, with crossbows being more or less confirmed, I guess we can expect some sort of hunting system in the game. And not just for hostile animals, but docile ones too, like deer or hares. Quite interesting.

That last poll option should be: "NO for both...greenpeace!"

It would be quite intresting and if it would be used for crafting system(good one..not the farming Witcher 2 system) I would be happy to create out of one deer new scabbard for sword or new sword grip...something like that. That reminds me what would you use fishes for? Like really. Hunting can give you much more useful "resources" than fishing. Maybe if there would be some hardcore mode with "have to eat everyday" system then it would make sense but otherwise I don´t know.

I'd like fishing to be in the game. It would be nice to take a peaceful break once in a while. Plus, it could also be a source of some rare secret items.
