Followers

I was wondering if followers (like in Skyrim) will be implemented in the game. Afterall, in those concept arts and trailers, he's always with a guy on horseback. I feel like followers were a big integral in the Skyrim modding community since you can create your own followers and what not, especially if you have to find them.

Imagine trying to find a fellow witcher to journey with you or going into battle with Letho on your side. =]

If not in the main game, they should at least open the possibility to the modding community. It really adds a lot of value to the game IMHO because more content can be created from it.

I don't think the main game would have followers (and if there were, they'd be for very brief times - like a single quest).

However, it would be pretty nice to mod in. It might be possible, though the AI packages for followers would likely be very simplistic. Witcher 1 saw a few of these followers, so it probably won't be impossible to mod in for Witcher 3.

I fully expect 2 things:
1) most of the time Geralt is on his own
2) on special occasions, he might (have to) team up with certain characters like this ashen haired girl he is searching for, or some mysterious violet eyed woman - but they will never be your followers, but more your equals/allies

The way it was done in TW2 was, in my opinion, the best way possible, and I hope they keep it the same in TW3. You didn't get a companion very often and they were around for limited amounts of time. And most important of all, they didn't get in the way.

For example, I'd enjoy Dandelion's company from time to time, but I mostly want to roam the land on my own.

I assume we will fight alongside AI allies at multiple points in the game. I just hope they improve friendly AI for 3. I just finished a playthrough of 2 and I can't count how many times Triss hit me in the back with fireballs. There were also frequent instances of friendlies running between me and the opponent I was fighting, blocking my swings.

A companion or two is a nice addition to any RPG games.

Like @Kassandrian said, I doubt there will be full time followers, just instances where there is an AI character with you - similar to what they did in Witcher 2 with Iorveth, Roche, etc. Just given the previous games and his character in the books and comics, Geralt tends to be a loner through much of his journeys.

That being said, I totally would love to see a part where Geralt and Ciri are fighting against the Wild Hunt back to back in a mind-blowing cutscene (cause while in-game would be cool, you can't get as much scripted stylized choreography that would do it as much justice). Then after the cutscene it could switch to in-game and then you get to experience fighting next to her.

Ciri and Geralt fighting back to back is a must have scene.

On a sidenote:
I would also welcome a scene between Ciri and false Ciri.
It could be a very fun scene and serve as a direct mirror to what life Ciri would have lived if Geralt hadn't interfered.

Overall I'd welcome if they handled companions like in TW2: related to quests.

Geralts companions could follow him during the main quest, but stay at the INN while he heads out
and does sidequests and other things - he's a lone wolf after all.

Yes, story-wise it seems like he'll have companions along the way at various points of the story. That is good enough but since the AI scripting has improved in the new engine (like complex NPC AI in towns) I would like to see smarter followers. From the trailer, we only get to see Johnny who was just walking around. I'm pretty sure they're trying to improve the AI for the followers right now.

I just hope that they add features to the REDKIT where you can add your own followers and the capabilities to add custom AI scripts or AI types (melee, ranged, aggressive, defensive, passive, etc.) to a follower.

Ideally I want a game where my follower is Letho. The AI for Letho can attack/parry/cast just like Geralt. Since this is Letho, it's only realistic that he can parry/counter 90% of all attacks from humans and basic monsters. If he sees small enemies stacked up he can throw bombs/signs, etc. Despite Letho being powerful, I'm pretty sure you can still make the game difficult because the character that we control, Geralt, is just as strong (we just need to know how to attack/counter/parry).

No, this does not have to be in the regular game, it could just be a mod for the end game where you just want to roam around everywhere with a follower to find hidden shit and kill big ass monsters for fun and gold. I'm pretty sure you can mod housing as well if REDKIT is that powerful. So an endgame with followers and capabilities to buy houses so you can fast travel there would be nice. But the houses should cost a shit load that you'll have to find hidden treasures in order to afford them.

Yeah as much as the game doesn't need conventional followers, I enjoyed the temporary company we get with characters in TW2. And I'm fully expecting Geralt and Ciri in battle together. I'd be kinda let down if that doesn't happen.
