For the love of God... Why do you stutter?

For the love of God... Why do you stutter?

I don't know if it's ATI's problem or the game's, but when I turn the camera and there are trees or when I run at Flotsam woods or inside plantation, the game stutters like it's having problem processing the plants and leaves etc.

No, I'm not losing frame rate. My PC is top of the line and I can run the game with almost everything maxed out (par the idiotic ubersampling of course) - which are also the recommended settings when the game auto detects them.

So why on earth does the game stutter sometimes when I turn the camera on or run between trees and plants?! I have tried everything! From lowering or switching everything off to putting a d3d9 dll in the game's folder. Nothing works.

And it's infuriating because the game runs great. There are no frame drops whatsoever.

Can someone please help?

I have a 3.30 Quad CPU, ATI Saphire 2GB GDDR5, 8GB RAM 1600 vengeance w7 ultimate 64bit, everything properly updated and defragmented.

Hmmm, you do have enough CPU power and enough video memory. What's the model of your GPU btw? But try enabling triple buffering from the Catalyst control panel, as well as V-Sync of course, and lemme know how that turns out.

Also I'd like to know how much voltage is channeled to your GPU, and max temp you reach during load, or playing the game. Sometimes, even a good GPU would struggle on lack of power, or when there's just too much of stationary heat to blow out, which may force the sensors to clock your GPU down.

Thanks for the reply but I just solved it! I had put the d3d9 dll in the central folder, when it needs to be in the bin folder. Now it's as smooth as butter and maxed out.

To answer some of your enquiries though, I have triple buffering enabled and v-sync of course in the CCC. Everything else I is enabled by the application.

As for the voltage, how do I find out (for future reference)? My main power box in the PC is 650W.

650 is enough.

And 650 is enough indeed, for a single GPU setup that is. But that's why I specifically asked how much of that power is "channeled" to the GPU. You can always find out from the BIOS or use GPU Shark for convenience. Say, how effective is it having a d3d9.dll in the bin directory? Aside from addressing the stuttering issue I mean. Any advantages?

With the setup I just mentioned in the first post (and a single GPU) the game runs like a dream (and the stutter is COMPLETELY gone as well). I used the solution here (http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/possible_stutter_fix_worked_for_me_single_gpu), post by Perkel.

I'm also using edge detect 12xEQ and Enhance application settings in the CCC, as well as Anisotropic (leave to application to handle), texture filtering maxed out and anti-aliasing mode 'Quality'. V-sync, as always, is "off unless application specifies.

In the W2 settings I'm using:

Texture downscaling: none
Texture Memory Size: Very Large
Shadow quality and shadow lights Ultra
LOD: Far
Bloom: disabled (it's aesthetically horrible - technically I can run it fine)
L. shafts: enabled
Anti-A: enabled
Blur: disabled (aesthetic choice)
depfth of field gameplay:enabled
vignette: disabled
wet surfaces: enabled
SSAO: enabled
motion blur: disabled (aesthetic choice)
cinematic depth of field: disable (aesthetic choice)
depth of field cutscenes: enabled
objects limit: disabled
ubersampling: disabled (it's completely unoptimized)
v-sync: enabled
decals: high spec

21" lg tv monitor, 1920x1080, 16:9.

Complete butter frame rate (tested in flotsam woods, battles and vergen with rain and battles).

The real difference came when I used the d3d9 dll solution from GoG.

I just might give that dll a try. The game already runs flawlessly, but anything that reduces stress / usage is always appreciated.

Just curious as to what hardware you have in this top of the line PC. Call it gamer curiosity!

Nope, the specs have always been there. I didn't say he's got enough CPU power and video memory out of nothing!!!

Listen buddy I opened the thread after like one minute after it was posted. I left my house and came back. I replied an hour after I opened the thread. There was no replies, not yours nor anybodies when I opened the thread. He added it after I opened it to reply(again an hour later). You may have seen it in your first opening of the thread but I did not because it wasn't there . It was added after the fact. Got it?
