Force directx8?

I'm trying to run the Witcher on my laptop (ASUS A8JM, which is pretty outdated) and I'm getting bad FPS.I was hoping there'd be a way to squeeze more performance out of the game by forcing directx8 or some other tweak. Is it possible to do so, or can such a feature be added in a future patch?Thanks in advance.

Oldblivion worked for nVIDIA FXes and a couple of other DEFECTIVE nVIDIA parts, but couldn't help the Radeon 9550s, given that their slowness was equal in Dx8 or Dx9, since those parts were designed "correctly". If your laptop is as old as those defective nVIDIA video devices, you are in a very small minority. I can't imagine any backwards patch for the desktop FXes, of which there ought to be MORE of those still in old desktops.
