that is ssr in action, screen space reflections. apparently, up to 2020, developers managed to implement this reflection technique without big downsides, but since ray tracing is invented, all of a sudden everywhere is grainy "because of limitations of ssr". its clear that developers have the ability to fine-tune it, but they elected to not do it for the sake of ray tracing
imagine selling a grainy, blurry, badly sharpened game to the %70 of gamers (non rt card ratio), ps4 and xbox one platforms.
they almost act as if everyone is on the rt bandwagon. we are not. simple as that.
Hello, after some time, i updated 1.03 to 1.06 version, and now looks pretty good for me, sharp and clean image, what i want to just a bit to reduce sharpness, but now is ok i think without DLSS.
1440p Ultrawide, 1080TI. Nvidia control panel: Default.

I hope they ditch the SSR for consoles in the next update. I find it funny that a tester didn't notice the problem pre release. Almost makes you wonder whether they tested "current gen" consoles at all because surely, just seeing how bad it looks you'd think, yeah we need to fix that before it goes out to the public. I've never seen this type of thing in any other game - ever!! . I think they should implement more control over graphical options on consoles, as PC user have - at least then we can fine tune our system

Yes, it seems that PC users don't have the same issues as console users.
I hear Stadia and Geforce Now are both looking pretty good - as long as you have a good enough Internet connection to run those platforms!!

The sharpness on Geforce Now is very visible, sometimes even annoying when taking screenshots. I hope this gets addressed because oversharpening things without giving players a slider to adjust it themselves is a terrible decision.

Nvidia probably gave them loads of hard cash to make it look as bad as possible on non-RT cards.
1.5 year old upper-mid range RX 5700xt struggles to do 1440p 60 fps? DLSS to rescue.
Everywhere grainy, reflections bad? Ray tracing to rescue.
Oh, you have a blurry, oversharpened TAA image? Here's AI-improved TAA (DLSS) for you, to rescue.
Why not optimize the game more when there's DLSS, eh?
Why optimize SSR, when RT is the holy saviour of 3D graphics, eh?
Oh, you want us to improve our TAA by actually doing some work on it like other developers do to an extent? Nope. Use Nvidia's propriearty DLSS!!
I get it. These technologies are there to make things "easier". I get that they managed to run away with these shortcuts thanks to those RT cards. But how many gamers have them?
How many Pascal users jumped to RTX 2000 series? Few. After 2 years, only %10-15 of gamers were using RTX cards, at best.
RTX 3000 series are fine, but they're scarce. No stock. Low end GPU? NO.
Do they have a budget DLSS-RT capable card? No. They sold people DLSS-less GTX 1660, 1660 super, 1650 super, which are great "rasterization" cards but they struggle in this game. DLSS would helped them alot. Why not produce them with DLSS? Nope.
Cheapest DLSS and RT is RTX 2060 and with that card, RT is out of question anyways.
So what the hell? Which player base this buggy game caters to? That little tiny player base that can afford rtx 2070 super, 2080 2080 ti and those little player base that had the "chance" of buying a rtx 3070, 3080?
It's no wonder AMD cards did not get RT in this game. Yeah they will, but CDPR rn working on a "dumbed" down version of RT. Even a RX 6900XT would struggle to run RT Medium without DLSS. Without DLSS, almost %80 of RTX cards struggles. And AMD has yet to create a proper DLSS solution. "Lowering the resolution" and then applying another hideous sharpening filter is not a proper solution. I don't mean to say DLSS is crazy good, but it's bareable in balanced or quality mode and gets tons of performance.

Finally, I could never live with turning off SSR either. So I don't see them turning off SSR for consoles. It brings so much to table, especially in rainy nights and places with lots of billboards and such. Giving an option, now that would be proper. I had to live with grain, because I liked reflections. I'm sure they could've tweaked it to a better version, but nope.
bruh... im not even mentioning the SSR in this game cuz it looks horrible even at ULTRA settings, MAFIA Definitive Edition come just a few months ago and it looks amazing what the devs did with its reflections, its stunning and not that much heavy, heck even Marvel Avengers does have better reflections, so whats wrong with these grainy things its as if they tried to add reflections to every surface including concrete walls (???) and the end result looks... meh, if u are a non RT user its best just to turn off SSR, i was able to play 80hours of game and finished it, it's really a good game but i had to play using 2x DSR, wich is meant to make old games look good, but oh well, hope it looks and plays better in the future, afterall even the witcher 3 looks better and plays better to me at 1080p '-'
The biggest problem with this for me is that the hair looks awful, at least on 1080p. If you have DLSS on, which for whatever fucking reason doesn't have sharpening enabled so then everything looks blurry as hell, the flickering and oversharpened hair gets fixed up a bit but in exchange for worse image quality. Making screenshots that have detailed enough hair in them is an awful experience.
This game has the worst pop in I've ever seen, worst ssr I've ever seen, one of the worst TAA implementation I've ever seen and people have the audacity to say this is a good looking game lmfao. This game only looks good in screenshots

That's entirely subjective. 1.03 looks absolutely cinematic. I hate the extra clear video game look that they gave it, and that most games have. That look is fake and dated. The TAA makes it look like a film, but they ruined it because people complain about a "fuzzy" looking picture. Tons of people dislike AA at all and always turn it off- I have a friend like that, and we know that he thinks my picture is blurry and I think his picture looks like it's from 2001. That's why they needed a TAA toggle/slider.
What they need is a toggle for 1.03 TAA and TAA off. Then people can turn it off and use whatever override AA they want, and we can get the cinematic version it was supposed to be.

Taa off is not an option. The game is using some kind of temporal upscaling. This is the reason for noisy SSR. Remedy's games also use a similar tech and their games have the same issues (blurry, noisy ssr) but at least there you don't have to deal with the atrocious pop in

but i think control is a really good looking game, the problem is control stick to one thing, while cyberpunk tries to do a bunch of thing, but it only really looks good if you are playing at a higher resolution, wich any game at higher resolution looks good, or using RT features wich makes it like completely other game... u can see the comparative between RT on and RT off that DF made, it looks like something else, there's a example of the shadows on the character faces, while in the RT off it is really strange as if some light is blessing the characters faces out of nowhere, in RT on this strange things disappear, the ppl say that it happens cuz of the RT features, but to me is just lazyness, since every other game without these RT features looks real nice... it makes me fell as if this game is made to sell RTX gpu's honestly, some of the graphical options doesn't even work...
i thought they would just improve the RED engine used in the witcher 3, but it fells like something else completely
