Four problems

Hi,

I just bought the enhanced edition of the game. Installation was seemingly succesful. Now whenever I select launch game from the launcher, nothing happens. The mouse cursor indicates activity for a mere moment, then nothing happens.

So I tried downloading patch 1.5. After unzipping the patch and starting it up, I get the following error message:
"Cannot identify the installed version. Unable to patch."
But 1.5 is said to be on the game disc already, so that can't be it.

Problem number three: I try to register, but yet another error error pops up by selecting login after entering the required username and password:
"ersion="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Details of my pc:
OS: Windows 7 64bit
CPU: Intel i5 2500K 3.3 GHZ
RAM: 8 GB
VGA: ATI Radeon HD Sapphire 6950 2 GB
Hard drives:
c: Solid State Drive 100GB (this is where I install the more demanding games for superior performance)
I: Hard Drive 1TB (this is where I install less demanding games to save space, and where I installed this one)

Problem number 4:
PC wizard crashes during analysis... Blast you Murphy's law!

Frustrating beyond belief, especially since this pc is brand new.

Can someone please help me? Thank you in advance :)

Problem 1: try launching the game directly from witcher.exe, located in Program Files>The Witcher. Right click and run as administrator.

Problem 2: hm... did you download it from here http://en.thewitcher.com/the-witcher/1/ ? Again, right click on the setup and run as administrator
Also, remind that patch 1.4 and 1.5 are cumulative. You need to install first 1.4 and then 1.5. Plus you need to download the correct language pack (from the same page) and put it in thesame folder of patch 1.4. Then run the patch.

Problem 3: solve problem n.2 to solve this

Problem 4: try another pc analyzer like SIW http://www.gtopala.com/

Problem 1: Didn't work, sadly :(

Problem 2 & 3: I just read on the backside of the cover that 1.5 is included. So it should already have been installed.

Problem 4: I attempted one last time with pc wizard. Even though it crashed, it put out a pretty long file, available as an attachment.

Edit:
Strange... seems to work now all of a sudden. o_0! Thanks for the help! :)

I would give it a try to this: go straight and download the patches from the site. Patches has been updated since May 2011. If you have trouble with one of them, I can provide you different sources.

After it worked one time, another issue has popped up. When starting the game as admin from the witcher directory in the program files, the game shows a black screen, where I can still use the cursor shaped like the in-game cursor. It forces me to use the taks manager to quit the "not responding" game.
Patching is done. Tried to run it in compatibility mode (XP sp2).

The weird thing is that it ran fine yesterday...

If you go to your witcher/system folder and hover your mouse over the witcher exe in the dialog box that appears there should be a version number . If it reads 1.5.0.1304 then you are on the 1.5 patch . Are you by any chance overclocking your video card , this would also apply to factory overclocked cards . Also make sure your not forcing anything on through the CCC ensure all applicable settings are set to application controlled . It might also help to apply the latest CAP profile if you haven`t already . If this doesn`t solve it try temporarily turning off the UAC and retry the game .

Patch 1.5 is definitely installed as i checked on the mouseover box. CCC settings were fine. I never overclock. Downloaded the latest CAP profile to be sure. And I disabled UAC. Yet now it doesn't even show the black screen. It's the first problem all over again. Start the game, then the cursor indicates activity for a second, then nothing happens. Task manager doesn't show an application, but it does show the witcher as an active service.

Alright let`s try a reinstall as something seems amiss .
1)uninstall game
2)disconnect from internet
3)disable antivirus
4)disable UAC
5)insert witcher installation disc
6) browse witcher cd and run setup as administrator and install as you normally would
7)after installation verify that the witcher exe is at version 1.5.0.1304 before trying to install any patches . If already at 1.5.0.1304 then no patches are needed .
8)reenable UAC and antivirus and reconnect to internet .
9) retry game .

Done it to the letter. Started the game and it worked! Then I rebooted, and it still worked. Rebooted like 3 times, no problems whatsoever.
It looks like the issue is finally solved. Thank you very much! :D
