Don't get me wrong, quality animations during movement or combat can go a long way of enhancing the experience, especially in heavily directed scenes such as dialogue or cutscene, I just doubt the benefits, the 'need' to animate any and all interactive moments.
The Deus Ex example is a fitting one since it has some contextual animations but dosen't bog you down in them. Especially since in immersive sims the environments are highly interactive and reactive; trying to animate Jensen picking up an item through the grates of a vent is bound to seem ridiculous no matter which way you go about it, whithout extensive work on something so contextual. So as far as I sims go, their focus should be spent elsewhere IMO.
