From Dragon age 2 to The Witcher 1

Nothing groundbreaking in this thread here. Just a personal message. I recently finished Dragon age 2 (on the xbox 360). I was a massive fan of dragon age 1, and while DA2 is at its core an average game, not bad but not terible, as a sequal to the original it fell miles short and I felt myself very annoyed and let down by it. I recently upgraded my PC and have been looking for some games I may have missed over the years and I bought the witcher enhanced edition and have to say im realy enjoying it so far! This is definatly filling the void that DA2 left in my gaming calander! Its a bit odd getting used to controlling movement in a PC as im used to playing them on consoles. Its funny, normaly reviews of console RPG ports slate them for the controlls just being horrific on a controller compared to mouse and KB, but seen as thats all ive realy known (apart from back in black and white 1/age of empires times which was the last time i had an 'up to date' pc!) I got quite accustomed to it and now im having to readjust to the pc :). However im finding the OTS camera has made it much easier for me to handle, and personaly I think it makes the graphics shine a bit more and increases the imersion for me. But I digress, just wanted to say how much im enjoying this game, and I hope for many more hours of enjoyment from it. At my current stage of the game my only gripes would be maybe the minimap quest marker can be a bit misleading. Ive found myself right on top of a red dot, still unsure of where the person or object i need is. There have been times ive needed to pass time and a fire/medidate option hasnt been nearby, a campfire vendor item or something would have been handy, and lastly.... dunno how it will sit with otehr fans but IMO i would have prefered a mute protagonist. I always read my text option in my head before i select them so then hearing some steriotypical gravel voiced guy deliver the lines somewhat ruins the immersion. But thats about it!! Cant wait to get home from work and crack on with some more! *EDIT* Something I forgot to ask; I dont want spoilers, but one of my biggest problems with DA2 is that the ending had no closure, it was effectivly a £40 trailer storyline wise. Plase dont tell me TW1 has an open ending? I do so hate open endings in my RPG's!

The Witcher is quite replayable as well, since different choices lead to different endings.

There's a mod that adds a "meditate anywhere" item; you can find it here: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=21855.0

Fascinating. To me, having Geralt's lines be voiced was part of what made him a definite personality. When I play games with unvoiced protagonists, they often feel rather cardboard to me, after The Witcher.

TW1 has a mixed ending. Many aspects of the story are resolved, but some are not. But TW2 is supposed to resolve the things that were left hanging in TW1, so we should get some closure soon!

Corylea covered it, really, but if I were to make a comparison, I would say that TW1 has closure the way DAO has closure. The main storyline is wrapped up, but some details are left open for further development in other games. It's not as open as the Witch Hunt dlc or what you said about DA2.

TW1 does lack a bit of closure, but the ending will make you think. it's not a bad ending, just pay very close attention to the story as you go. Thats all I'll say so as not to spoil anything.

I'm a huge Dragon Age fan. Although Dragon Age 1 and 2 are very different I enjoyed both quite a bit. I'm mostly a console player. I own two games on PC. I wanted to try something new and I came across the preview for Witcher 2. Wow!After seeing how nice that game looks graphically and the amazing game play, I was sold on trying it out. I am anxious for May 17th for that release. I even looked up reviews on Witcher 1. Sure enough, seems this is a game I have missed out on since 2007. I purchased the game today and hope to see it in the mail soon.So far I've gathered you play as one character and alone. I can deal with that. Without spoilers, can you tell me is there any customize options at start? I guess I don't consider that part a spoiler. One other thing I'd love to know, is it a long game like Dragon Age 1 or 2? Dragon Age 2 was shorter than 1, but still a good length I think.

This sounds good to me then. The main problem with DA2 for me was they focused too heavily on the varric narrative. Without this it would have had closre, as it would have been Hawkes adventires in kirkwall, but its not, its costantly throwing the varric narrative at you awlays reminding you what you are playing is NOT the main issue at hand...and then you neevr even get to see what the hell is even going on! As i said, its a £40 trailer. But as long as the main storylins is wrapped up then thats fine by me. Its ok to leaves certain things unanswered, as long as its not the enitre game hehe!

No. Geralt of Rivia is a character that comes from a series of seven books by Polish fantasy author Andrzej Sapkowski, so he's already a well-known character. We know who he is and what he looks like. Instead of customization at the beginning of the game, what you'll get is choices DURING the game, choices that will decide some of Geralt's core values.

TW1 is longer than DA2 but shorter than DA1, which should put it in the sweet spot for you. :)
