Future of Witcher Modding

Why modding forum looks so dead comparing to Oblivion's? Yeah, Oblivion is a mediocre rpg, but it have a really strong modding community and it have a lot of fixes now which makes the game much better. What I see here? Game is out 9 months ago, but here only 5 pages of topics and on the first page the difference between 1st and last topic is half month (Community adventures & mods)! It's looks like modding community is almost dead. Witcher is a fantastic game (I haven't played such quality rpg since Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines and it was 2004) and I really don't understand why forum isn't flooded at least with new topics of small\crappy mods\fixes\replacers\WIP mods with release of D'Jinni. What do you think, guys?

I'd say its because the main game scripts are very difficult to access (decompile and understand) and D'jinni is not as intuitive as Aurora for instance.Still, give it some time and there'll probably be more coming out. In fact, I am inclined to believe there is over at the Polish boards, but most of us can't really understand more than a word there. ;)And I did bring out two fixes. You should start too :D

Scripts written in LUA? Haven't seen NWN Editor, but used Oblivion TES CS a lot - it's not very handy too, even more - it still have A LOT of bugs and Bethesda don't give a ****** about it, they just dropped it like a bone to hungry dog. Some features of it broken in latest version which is out quite long time ago, so modders forced to use external utilities written by the community. Some major bugs even not fixed since release. Do I need to continue? It's clearly shows how Beth care about the community. Now I see absolutely opposite situation with CD Projekt RED. Actually I've never seen so huge support for modding from developers - my big respect to them. I just hope that whole situation with modders community will change with The Witcher Enhanced Edition release or even earlier.

I checked and haven't found Community adventures & mods section there or similiar section.P.S.: Funny thought, but maybe many potential modders just checked main site and haven't found any forum or community site links and just dropped it? :D I think it's a good idea to make the links on thewitcher.com default page. ;)

They are in both NWScript and LUA, and there is no NCS decompiler for instance. With Aurora, you could access scripts used in the OC directly and copy them if you wanted to.Regarding Oblivions, a lot of mods were for clothing and changing NPCs and adding quests. This would be a lot more difficult for this game where Geralt only wears armor and it would be unwise to walk around in fancy clothing. Side quests could be added if the main game scripts could be accessed, but as with NWN, people didn't modify the main campaign but rather made their own adventures - something that is happening here as well.

Maybe it will be added in next versions of D'jinni?

Sure, thats what I want. But I only found two WIP projects - Strands of Destiny and Deception. Not much I might say. Oh yes, and contest projects. Do I miss something else?

:wall: sorry, we have written a complete story, but the lack of documentation and real showcase completly destroy our motivation...it's hard for people who comes from aurora, just imagine how it can be difficult for people like us. so we wait for real documentaion, and maybe we will make our project.

Wikis don't happen by fiat. @jbaudrand , have you added what you know to the djinni wiki? I'm trying, it's meager I know, but if we all add our little bits, we might just get there be a sport :)

The game may have been out for nine months, but the game's editor has only been out for a short time. Given that, I'd say there's a lot of activity!

If anyone has specific issues with Djinni, don't hesitate to pass them to us in REDFlame. We're expecting to launch Deception within the next two weeks at the latest, and feel we've basically dug into every aspect. All the guts of Deception will be added to the custom content database on the Djinni Wikia, and we will be heavily updating tutorials. We also will have representatives from our team to help support CDPR with the modding community. Just pass emails to myself at wphelps@witchermod.com, or to our PR representative at pvardaris@witchermod.com and we will get an answer usually within a few hours after receiving. :)As for complexity of Djinni, once you've really dug into it, the process becomes simple. And yet, it is a very powerful tool, moreso than many other toolsets. If you go through the Djinni Wikia, you will be able to build a very good mod. And once we put all the latest content up, you should be able to build something as polished as The Witcher. And we want to help every modding team formed, as well as folks planning to form, as much as we physically can. So don't hesitate to contact us about anything. :)

Yes, it is simple in its own way. But its not easy to come to this point. It takes much more time to understand how it is working than to make a mod. When I think about my contest mod so far, I needed two weeks to sort and get all the placeables somehow and to understand how the things work, and it took me only one week to make the mod itself after I understood those things. And there are still some placeables that hangs on my cursor as black boxes and I couldn't reach them, so it will take 3 weeks more to find out.But at last it is easy once you understood it. And it is a lot easier when you come from NWN and have knowledge of the Aurora Toolset. But, and that I must say to all newbies: When I first worked with the RPG Maker, I thought: Oh my god, I will never understand this (it's Ruby scripting language and I never saw it before) but while making the first map and get deeper into it, it becomes very easy. And the same it is with D'jinni, the deeper you get, the more you do with it, the easier it becomes. So just try it....

Oblivion is Elder Scrolls IV and already had a big community from Morrowind alone. When we see The Witcher IV maybe then the modding community will be bigger.Give it time.
