The EE patch cannot be uninstalled separately. You have to uninstall and reinstall the game.

Go to Add/Remove Programs or whatever your edition of Windows calls it, and uninstall The Witcher 2. It will offer to preserve your saves. If you do so, it will leave your saves in place.

Reinstall. The reinstalled game will find your saves, and the next time you "Load Game", they will be available.

It won't reinstall it and auto update to EE? How do I keep it from updating to EE?

Edit: If it changes anything, I have the Steam version. I have it uninstalled, but it's still listed as "The Witcher: Enhanced Edition" in the game library and when I click reinstall, it says "install TW:EE?"

Uninstall & reinstall of the Steam version did not fix it.

The uninstaller will offer to preserve your saves. It does so, correctly; I've used it.

Worrying. Has anyone got through Vergen OK with a fresh EE start yet rather than with an old save?

Think I'll go with Roche just in case.

I'm afraid we cannot ensure that all the old saves will be fully compatible with the Enhanced Edition simply because too many things changed. The only way to avoid these problems is to start a fresh playthrough. In this particular case it might also be enough to start from the end of Act 1, so Act 2 is loaded afresh.

The Enhanced Edition simply encompasses too many changes and new features to fully avoid issues resulting from data in an old save not agreeing with the updated content. If you are unwilling to use the EE and prefer an older version of The Witcher 2 then you can reinstall the game and patch it only up to e.g. 2.0. If you have the Steam version of the game and want to use an earlier version then use your gog backup and patch it with 2.0 Critical Rebuild.

So is it certain that the bug does not occur if you start a fresh play through? Seems weird that a savegame can alter the graphics of specific physical objects? Do savegames have foresight? I cant understand how a savegame can result in this object being turned by 90 degrees?

Great game btw.

Allright. Not the answer I was hoping for but something I can work with.

Anyone who's got an old save file and gotten past Vergen Besieged know if there are any other land mines like this?

I have the boxed retail version..what about that? how to avoid the autopatch to EE and the critical error when trying to apply a downloaded patch (like 1.1, 1.2 or later)?

For the boxed version install the game and when it asks you whether to download the patches cancel. Go to our Support page and on the right you will see the patches. Download and apply 0->1.35 and potentially 1.35-> 2.0 if you prefer 2.0 rather than 1.35.

Alternatively, you can use the 2.0 Critical Rebuild on a fresh installation, or any other version actually - it's non-differential so it doesn't matter.

EDIT: Basically, there are 3 kinds of boxed The Witcher 2.
1) Patching 0->1.35 and 1.35->2.0 is for the 0.0 Master
2) If you have the Namco autumn release of the game based on 2.0 master then you don't have to patch it at all if you want to play the 2.0 version.
3) And if you have new EE discs based on EE master and you want to use old saves you had from some other version of the game then you would have to apply 2.0 Critical Rebuild which I mentioned above.

When i try to patch the game with the 1.0 --> 1.35 it show an error screen: installed game version is not valid or incomplete...

and it says me this all the times, with any patch file

I appreciate the help, but this is kind of ridiculous...shouldn't this have been tested?

indeed the problem is that after reinstallation the game cannot proceed without the EE patch update...it says there's an error..so you either stop the game or you reinstall EE and reload the end of chapter 1 when you can choose roche's path..and then shoot me in the brain please...

I have to reinstall the non-EE version of the game (which sounds like is not easy to do) to get past this game-breaking bug because you guys can't fix two goddamned lines of code? Sorry, Projekt, you just lost a customer.
